Habzoud Maroke Qadeem

The first thing that entered my mind when I smelled this oil…….Agar Aura Sultan’s Solace,
in fact, if Taha sold this as Sultan’s Solace 2,
it would be spot on. Although it’s hardly the case that two different distillations can be identical, Maroke Qadeem and Sultan’s Solace are very similar. During drydown, I can’t help but think of EO Xiang Liao Ling.

For you to say this smells like Sultan Solace is a big statement for me, as the old timers will know what people say about that oil 😉

The Marokes I have tried are EO Oud Royale 1, Maroke Sultan, Maroke Muah, Xiang Liao Ling, Green Papua and Oud Royale 5. Then Feel Oud’s Pa-Papua, then Agar Aura’s Sultan’s Solace and Syed’s Ascent.

Your Maroke Qadeem is indeed closest to Sultan’s Solace, I was quite surprised and happy to smell something like it again.

EO Oud Sultani 2001
EO Kannan Koh

I wanted to compare these two side by side as they are similar. Like two sisters. Equally amazing. Smelling Sultani I'd say it's better, then I switch to Kannan and say that one is the better oil. Kannan is more complex and red. Starts powdery and floral right from the get-go, then it goes through a Black Musk, red phase reminiscent of Ahmad, but way more subtle, and the dry down smells like Gyrinops or Microcarpa, with the intense red color lingering on the whole time. Sweet, very sweet oil, honeyed. Sultani gets a bit of time, 5 minutes or so to explode in its floral glory, it's more purple than red, no musk, and the honeyed facet is amped up. It's more woody and resinous. Not as complex, doesn't shift as much, but it's more regal, it's a big oil. These two smell like the sisters of Oud Ahmad. Ahmad is the big bad wolf brother, while Kannan and Sultani are his more beautiful, human sisters. Ahmad is a black wolf with glittering red eyes. So far, these 3 are the most beautiful oils I've tried from Ensar. I'd take them over all his "Kyara" oils, Borneos, Chinese, any of his oils any given day.

AlHindOud - Hirta Gold
Perhaps my skin doesn't allow broadcasting this oil, but it's such a quiet oil. It's beautiful, but from the description it should be potent. When I applied it, I was wondering if I had applied anything at all, but now it starts to shine fruity/a field of wildflowers.

AlHindOud - Firdous
What a beautiful and above all POTENT oil, I applied way too much and I just swiped what was on the sample dipstick before I cut it off. (I always do that, since I have this weird thought that oils might react with the plastic on the dipstick) Creamy vanilla icecream on a sunny day, and now it starts to shift into something I can't describe. 😅

I'm saving AlHindOud - Oud Zheng for a later point in time, but I couldn't resist sniffing it from the vial. I think I'm going to love this one so much! Glad I was able to grab the last bit of it.

Its not that animalic barnyardy as expected. Its a very smooth barn. On application it smells like coffee and dark 90% chocolate? Then the barn shows up but it goes in harmony with the darker cambodi profile. Its for old school fans
I know there was an old EO oil called Cambodi Caramel or Cocoa something along those lines.

EO - Suriranka

I have been exploring a few Sri Lankan ouds lately and happy I was able to get my hands on this sample thanks to @Jame.

This is definitely among the top I have tried. It opens with the blue green aquatic signature of Sri Lankan oils, but nothing swampy or off putting about it. It really shares some of the tropical vibes I felt from AHO Firdous, but instead of leaning into the fruity aspect this one is all about the florals. Sweet creamy beautiful woody incense drydown with zesty lemony florals.

Met up with the legend @Sproaty and i was lucky to have smelt his fine collection of oils. There were a few oils which stood out and one in particular which i love, Oud Saladin by Tabeer Oud, i think its a Hindi Oud but smells like a top shelf Borneo, amazing oil.
I had such an awesome 2 days with Habib. He is a kind soul, and very hospitable. Showed me around his hometown and I got to visit a mosque for the first time. Also had a spin in his sports car which was worth the trip alone! Such a BEAST!

He has an amazing nose too, it was great fun to sit there and smell/discuss my collection with someone. He was able to draw many parallels across ouds that I'd never noticed, and it was good to discuss these in person with someone (when I went to the oud fairs in Vegas 2018 and London 2019 I was still a newbie....I still consider myself as one, but much more experienced now).
He's great at discerning high end ouds vs standard/average ones too. It also made me realise how great the oils he sells are

I walked away with an appreciation for my collection a lot more, and for the recent buys I've had from Habz! I need to revisit them but a lot of his recent releases are slept upon. Such good quality : price ratio
Since 2021 I've bought every oil that he's released because they're always been great. I've not mention many on here; I used to do a daily SOTD post but I've been lazy with it recently.
Sultan al Akhdar, Xiangshui, Caliph - outstanding! I'm waiting for him to release a Viet oil, I've been dropping hints to him for years!

Ive not smelt ouds like this for years mainly because not often do i meet an Ouddict, back some years ago with @Ouddict was the last sniff session, i have to say his vast collection of many old oils mainly oriscent, alshareef oudh, agar aura etc helped me understand what high calibre Oud oils are from a early stage. I spent days and nights smelling his oils and remember all the names. @Sproaty what i like about your collection is it contains oils from many different vendors i was really impressed by the AlHind oils too especially Mumtaz, JKs Hindis were also very nice with lovely clean barn, Mesouds oils the Tuba is a gem, alshareef ouds blends are unmatched and Tabeer Ouds Saladin which was the main highlight for me.

That was low boost next time well go for high boost on a moterway hehe.

I also had opportunity to try Habz’s oils. AlJannah, Cambodi Smoke, Altaws, Zamarad and few others and they truly are amazing and that shows his expertise in this field.

just as smokey as it is sweet and fruity. not something i usually get to smell in the same oudh! very powerful, and tangy and peppery even in the dry down. i reccomend giving this one a sniff. Oud Yusha from Ensar
