EO - Purple Kinam

Opens with a blast of confectionery sweetness and wet woodiness. The sweetness fluctuates between cotton candy, and other colorful gummy candies. There’s a beautiful purple floral character coming through as well.

The wet wood phase dries away quickly and you get the bitter dry woody Oriscent “kinamic” signature that I’ve found to be common to this line of oils. This is a very vaporous oil, at times there is a note that almost smells of a sweet diesel fuel.

Definitely a nice oil and I’m very thankful to be able to experience it, however I’d never purchase any meaningful amount at the absurd price tag. Maybe if I had gotten into this oud scene earlier 🤷‍♂️

every time I read your praise for this oil I jump to Fushighi IG page to order it 😂
I might finally do it today 😊
Haha i feel you on that.

A few people have asked me about this so ill post my entire thoughts below for anyone interested:

Yes indeed, in my experience, they are the same oil. I have owned both and can say that with a high degree of confidence. Also they were distilled in the same year from what I could find out.

It is one of my favorite oils of all time, it's certainly not cheap but the price at Fushigi is still 1/3 of what EO is offering. I think it's $550 a gram vs $1,600. With oils like this you really don't need a lot, so a little bit of oil goes a long way.

Ive gotten a couple .2g samples of this from him and I'll be buying a .5g sometime soon as well.

The Myanmar kyara/men tien Kyara from them is also quite good. The Laos oil is on the par with the Hainan and is the same kind of style but a Laos profile. And a bit cheaper price. Brunei is also quite good, very potent, very kynamic.

Ive heard Nha trang is quite good as well but I have not tried it. As blasphemous as it may sound, I owned NTLTD from EO and I was not very impressed by it and ended up selling up. I plan to try Nha trang from Fushigi sometime to compare, Ive heard it is similar but I don't believe it would be identical. Different distillation years, etc.

Malinau, Sri Lanka, tarakan were all pretty monotonous and a bit bland, I would not recommend them at all. They're just just kind of one or two notes and you can't even tell what region it's from. They were disappointing.

I realize my opinion may ruffle some feathers as there are many EO die hards that take his word as the gospel. Which I can understand and respect as his company has produced and released truly some of the best oils of all time. Alongside helping to fuel the growth of the industry thru passionate discourse and education. No doubt about that whatsoever and no disrespect is intended by my post.

I thought this too, I ordered quite a few samples from him last year and many had the same 'vibe' and were quite unlike other oils from similar regions. Like the Sri Lankan didn't smell like what I expected for one. It seemed all the oils had the same characteristics running through them regardless of the region (although wood species is unspecified)
I enjoyed all but yeah when it comes to the pricing then they're pretty high in terms of giving recommendations

Hello my friends!
Today I am enjoying the gorgeous Sugar Knot Kiara. The smell changes from cool to floral honey... What a great start to the day!

This one I'm most curious about. The description on his website sounds also very interesting. I have no clue why I didn't get the sample yet lol🙂))

Doing a Brunei oil today, Jinkoh Store Brunei Qi still deciphering this one. There is a blue and a purple undercurrent that runs through the top and the mid which I can't place. This oil features some of the most unique amalgamations of flavors and colors and leaves me scratching my head for making a proper impression on it.

Also did some Oriscent Hyang Kang earlier in the day, which delivers what promises.

It's pretty good 🙂

Brunei oils don't strike me as the widest and deepest in my experience. This one is pretty high frequency and not gonna have much in the way of deep roots, but the profile is pretty blueish floral and light. The dry down hits me like there's a kinam heater on low temp near by.

Also as much as I was throwing shade at the Malinau oil from Fushigi yesterday, I did wear it and the drydown was def hitting like I just mentioned and was still going on my hand this morning after showering last night and sleeping 9 hours. So that's something. But still to me, that profile registers more like a finely tuned narrow extract.

Hainan from Fushigi vs Frag Harbour from The Attar Store

I thought FH was hitting hard until I put on a tiny amount of Hainan and now it's obvious how much a beast this Hainan oil is, even in tiny amounts. Bitter sweet citrus nose numbing incense which goes down into the back of my throat and on my tongue when I inhale it. Can smell it AND taste it, which is wild.

Sounds great. Link??

SULAYM Thai Khiao: Strong, green, wet herbaceous jungle notes that stick around, with a strong medicinal camphor note that has a medicinal (50/50) menthol/minty note, with a bitter note (like eating leaves as a kid😂) and some alcohol-like qualities to the overall top notes, somewhat "boozy", but not quite (this is an interesting note and was not bad, but disappears after the top)... as it develops the jungle notes are still strong, and the camphor medicinal menthol note starts to slowly disappear only showing up every now and then, strong jungle notes still with a different type of camphor, more musky and oak moss-like, leather backdrops and sweet/sour red cherries with some cola notes, ethereally coming in and out. The overall oil starts to become a little more sweet with a fruity note that is both sweet and a tiny bit sour like the cherry but not "red", and not as sour... it has some gourmand qualities.

Lovely notes of light jungle notes, with dripping rain into a spring pond filled with some florals right now after 3 hours of development. Lovely 🙂.

Getting into the dark side of a bodybuilding contest prep where I need to find the energy and will to get out of bed. So I've been reaching for my musk attars and the more pheromonal stuff to get me going for my training session.

Did some EO Tigerwood Royale before today's weight training session and it really hit the spot. This oil is WILD, pure, naked wilderness. Such a masculine oil.
Now put some HM Purple Malay, to keep it going with the Malay train. Amazing floracy while still boasting some of that dark, a bit verdant qualities I get in the Tigerwood. Both these oils remind me of the Oriscent Kelantan, which is now all used up. The latter feels like a love child of the first two, much sweeter and incense loaded.

I might end the day with some Sultan Pasha Irisoir. No clue why, just fits in, and I kinda crave it. Thank God for olfaction! To me it really is more of a drug than anything else. A drug and a cure.

Unreleased Koh Kong 2023 by SULAYM called, "Kakao". EDIT: Picture was taken after I used it.
image_2024-05-04_193247054.png

I only used this once and never got much because I never put enough on, I got a tiny half or quarter inch of oil so I just put it all on, basically, then I just went, fuck it, and tipped it over on my hand, then the little bubble that come as the top just slowly penetrated it with the dip stick till I got every last bit, so it is a full wear.

First normal, non Thaqeel (that I got from mesOUD), Cambodi oud I have tried, and it is amazing, smells like Koh Kong wood, fits the whole Cambodi profile, and reminds me of putting 4 sticks of Kangiiten's Cambodi incense sticks on, in a general way.

Been wearing it for nearly 1.5 hours, and when I am finished writing this it will probably be 2 hours (that's how long it takes for me to write all these posts, as I try and get as much detail as I can, and be somewhat "accurate", in my senses).

Notes start off with a very piercing, sweet red berry, with a dark red sour cherry note, lovely agarwood, resin notes, cool minty notes that (of course) play along and come in and out of hiding along most of the wear, and probably are still there in the dry down as Cambodi agarwood, oils and incense is known (from my experience anyway) to have that mintiness that is almost kinamic but is a note found in a lot of Cambodi stuff that isn't kyara, which is so cool and why I love Cambodi wood and incense (and now oil, thank God I ordered that 1g Koh Kong 2015 from Craft Oud!!!). After 15-20 mins every smoothens out and becomes more ordered. The sweet red berries and sour dark red cherries are evenly distributed to 50/50, making it a sweet but also sour fruity scent, with some blood orange notes in there as well, which gives it a wee twinge, mintiness (as I said) comes and goes and at different lengths. Woodiness after 1 hour sets in quite a lot, but there is a nice resin splurging note, sometimes mild notes of jungle greenery, but not potent in that way, just nice and gentle, gentle cola notes that, because of the dark red cherry note, becomes this super fizzy cherry cola pop note, which is fantastic, and I have been put off cola notes as of late but this one here is rather surprisingly good, and quite nice, you also sometimes get that cool, soft (kinamic - like) mintiness with this note, which at first may seem weird or unpleasing, is definitely not. After 2 hours I am getting a real high grade agarwood note, sometimes agarwood incense note with hardly any smokiness, to me anyway, everything is crystal clear and nice and minty full on, its mostly (like 95% if not more) sweet red berries now with some hints of blood orange, and most of the dark red cherry has literally attached itself to the cola note, so now there is this whole new note (no cherry note on its own anymore, to me anyway) in this experience that is just cherry cola, weird and wonderful, and bizarre that a fragrant wood distilled in a certain way creates a drink we all know (and some of us) love. Hints of chocolate, and dark cherry and berry infused chocolate cake, with lovely florals about to appear... and this is where I end it.

I cant wait for @SULAYM to release this one... I want as much as I can afford of this!!!

Jinkoh Store - Emperor of Brunei
This is a perfume, not Oud!
Blue, green, aquatic, ethereal, sweet, slightly bitter and narcotic with a fizzy texture that tingles my brain 🧠

My worst habbit? Applying oud oils before sleep, because now I want to stay and enjoy this oud for as long as possible 🏖

This is one of my treasures...

Mesoud Tarakan Qadeem... not sure if this is the only microcarpa oud I own. as far as I know it's the only Tarakan I have. I am comparing to some kalimantan and malinau oils and they have some similarities but I'm not sure if they are also from microcarpa. Many of the oils I learned from didn't come with scientific names.

Enjoying this right now. Beautiful qadeem

Yesterday and today:

Started by comparing IO Koh Kong Imperiale and AA Koh Kong 4K, and did a side-by-side. 90% identical to my nose. To the point where I had to remember where I applied each. Now, in the dry-down, it's easier to tell them apart. 4K has this green-bitter kinamic high-frequency buzz whereas the IO is more grounded by a creamy, honeyed base. I prefer the latter, and it used to be half the price of the 4K. These are two very sweet and gourmandish oils. Something I kind of depart from, yet still enjoy occasionally.

Followed by side-by-side Oriscent White Kinam and Jinkoh Store Malinau Qi. Very different oils, just as high quality. The contrast between them is striking, bringing out the differences more. M Qi is dry, devoid of sweetness, woody. WK by comparison is vaporous, sweet, and very purple and floral in the opening. I never realized how blueberry, grape, and purple floral it is until I put these two side-by-side. Great way to bring out the different facets in oils by putting contrasting ones one next to the other.

Jinkoh Store Grand E Tarakan. I think this one has cracked the top 3 Jinkoh ranks for me. I'm certain. Outstanding Borneo oil. The green-aquatic opening feels toned down. The purple and blueberry heart amped up. Vanilla, nutty, focused woodiness. Through and through complexity and spectrum of colors. Don't know if it'll ever take down the Emperor of China 1, but it might take the Brunei Qi. Gets better and better for me. My love for good Borneo oils has increased as well, now probably my 3rd favorite profile, so perhaps that has to do with my sudden infatuation with this one. Stellar performance also.

Finally, EO Oud Salahuddin and EO Oud Ahmad. Vintage Malaysian and Vintage Cambodi oils can't get higher than this. Most special oils I have ever tried.
