Today I’m swiping Grandawood’s Revival.

Trent from Grandawood was very kind to include it in my last purchase and I’m liking it quite a lot.

It’s a Merauke oil which to my limited experience with these oils have a very interesting menthol or minty facet to them with a very wild green leafy component.

You've peaked my interest. $39 for .5ml is a very reasonable price.

this style of oud oils is not for me.
if I smelled it without the label I'd think this is some wood with peppers and cucumbers, not an oud oil at all.
it starts bitter, medicinal and astringent, then the worst part of this is the heart, which is spicy peppers and pickles. the drydown although better but still not for me.
I'm no where near an experienced oud fan, but I think this will never be an oil that I will enjoy, it is far from all oud oils I've tried before.
I've read that it is in the vein of EO RK 2.0, and if that was true, I thank god I didn't ordered it blindly.
I'll be trying different oriscent oils this weekend, and hopefully report back my noob nose comparison, lol.

Im swiping this now and it still stands as one of my favorite oils of all time 😍😍

There was also a guy on YT who recently reviewed another oriscent oil and was repulsed by it lol.

One mans treasure is another mans trash, haha.

Funny how different and variable our experiences and preferences can be 🙂

I am enjoying a sample from An Najwa labeled "Papua 2024"

This is a robust clean smelling sweet and peppery/spicy papua that reminds me of some of the Papua oils and Irian Jaya oils i have encountered. There is a saturated quality to the scent, a rich confectionery sweetness that fills my nose. This saturated sweetness reminds me of zamrad II (habzoud) and an Aceh oil i got from agarwood Indonesia when that business was just starting. The overall profile is like an old UNS fine crafts irian Jaya oil i got back at the dawn of online oud, but this has more depth and solidity to it and the fragrance becomes intensely and satisfyingly oudy. This is a very saturated smelling oil - just packed with scent.

Monday- Feel Oud - Binh, a codistillation of 5 regions. Smells majestic. And Feel Oud - Virgin KS, from Indonesia/Kalimantan & Sumatra - absolutely stunning oil, so pristine, piercing and beautiful. The whole oil feels like a top note throughout but just lasts and doesn't seem to dry down into something different

Yesterday day - Al Hind - White Kinam- interesting oil, not 'strong' as such but a gentle caress of a delicate scent. Enjoyable. Also, Al Hind- Ko Thang, a Thai oil but very un-Thai to me, not atypical of the Crassna profile

Last night was Al Hind's Sheikh-ul-Oud 2012 which is an Assam oud but doesn't smell like one to me. It's weird; neither "old school" or "new gen" - no barn or off notes but doesn't smell like these yellow golden new gen oils. Super enjoyable, alas I wore it to get into bed and read so only had it on for ~30mins or so

Today, Al Hashimi - Maroke Sultani - oh my! I can still smell it almost 11hrs later, started off fairly typical of Marokes with the earthy darkened soil and then 2hrs later it had developed into a hauntingly beautiful in a way that I can't think how to describe.
Al Hashmi - Malaya Atiq from 1995. Reminds me of the Ensar Tigerwoods with that deep dark incensey vibe.

Sulaym - SQ Burmese (Sulaym 1)
I know its a beloved oil by many and I am really sorry but this oil is one of the rare oils that dont match my skin.
After swiping it, I get a plasticy/burnt plastic smell. I dont know why. Its not about Sulaym because I also have SQ burmese oil from a vendor outside ouddict and I got the same burnt plasticy note. I even have a SQ Rose Oud with this burmese oud that has the same burnt smell + rose.
Later on it fades away and I smell some florals and it has a good smelling background.

Cambodi Exquisite on the other hand
Now its more alive (fresh distillation)
Less harsh and edgy. A beautiful and unique citrussy openning with a natural forest smell. Slowly a hint of vanilla joins to infuse the openning with the beautiful slightly fruity and slightly sweet backbone.
Later on the vanilla pushes through and gives a borneo vibe. I didnt expect that 😍
A perfect clean cambodian
Might the burnt smell was due to the sunlight? I experienced a couple of times with EO's Burmi 79, it smells fruity sweet on my skin, but the burnt/meaty smell came out right away after direct sun exposure for only 5-10 seconds, and gradually disappeared when I stay in the shade. Not sure if any other guys noticed this. Also not sure about other ouds.

Sometimes people also pick up notes like rubbery tyres, diesel, charred wood in oils especially in Burmese and Marokes. I think its all down to each nose being unique and the sensations, memories and perceptions they trigger. That doesnt always take from the quality of an oil in some cases. The SQ burmese has the dark molten smokey vibe on the top and shifts to a more fruity floral vibe as it goes on.

Its nice to hear people not enjoying an oil even if its from me. Its boring always reading positive reviews lol.

Oud of the one long day for me as I'm wearing it as a daily while staying here in Bali for the next 7 days is Min Al Sin by Sulaym. Perfect in this humid weather. Bali is a world full of scents the minute you get off the plane so adding this strong and sweet Oud to my senses is most welcome.

Assam incense grade by Oud Hindi Global: An Indian house, distiller: brother Azim. Raw material: Incense grade Assam oud chips.

Very clean, bright, sweet and zesty opening.
Camphoric, fresh with petrol like blue vapours.
Incensy, balmy, moist hay, sweet melons.
Familiar spiciness of Assamese oud which reminds of barn without any barn.
Hints of clean leather, incense, hay.
Gourmand sweetness, tobacco, mild bitterness.
Transitions into slightly leathery, rich incense, dark roasted coffee, cacao seeds, old wooden book racks in the dry down. All the brightness and sweetness vanishes in the dry down, turns into a serious dark character.

did you quote the wrong post? (all the oils I mentioned were positive!) 😛

I just got some sample from An Najwa of several oud oils. It's a striking collection: sumatra, maluku, borneo, papua, assam, burma.

I just put on a small swipe of the Borneo and while i have not yet had time to study the details, one thing is clear it is SO NICE! Reminds me of some of the early oriscent and UNS fine craft borneos from way back.

Each of the six oils has smelled unique but been similar on my brief first inspection, in the sense that they hit hard, familiar, and seeming like a "select" grade of the familiar, classic profiles.

This Borneo is so nice though.
I just purchased 5gms of the Borneo.
I found a sample of it only two days ago and realized what a strikingly beautiful Oil it is.
I had made the purchase on an olefactory memory, it would appear. your post confirms this to me. @An Najwa as I have said before produces some superb in house distills.

I'm jealous - that is a great buy. I would love to have a full bottle of this oil.

Another crazy one from this recent set of oils is called "arakan classic" which is a Burmese oil and probably the most interesting crassna oil I've smelled, hands down. None of that weird pungency that plagues fresh crassna oils. No heavy wet dull wood from aggressive soaking. No cheesy decay notes. This has the clean appeal of a good pursat but with an unusual beautiful bright incense quality and a little more depth . The date is 2024 so I wonder how they managed to distill a fresh crassna without the pungent note?

An Najwa - is this distilled by you? What a nice oil!

I also have a sample of this and have hit him up to put some aside for me once it's available. It's really, really good.😁

Wearing Sumtran oil distilled by me almost 6 months ago.

The color of the oil has changed significantly from deep green to golden brown and the projection also improved. Malaccensis species has this spice background with sweet edges sniffing from the skin and smell like Borneo from the bottle. This was from wild shavings that were collected since 2017. Imagine how oil distilled from the incense itself will smell which @mesOUD is doing right now!

Update: 6 hours in and the smell mellowed down into, smooth, incensy and wood burning at low temp type. Very much enjoying this. Did I mention the wafts that I'm getting now and then reminding me of the oil?

Alhamdulillah really Nice brother.
İ can say i proud of it

A few dots of Mereuke ruby from @Aroma Sublime on my wrist. Love this deep jungle note at the top.
Spairingly I put a small dot of Taif rose oil close to it. Quite an unexpected beauty of a mix together. The Taif is climbing all over the ruby and curling into such a fusion of scent.
This is a combnation I shall put together again. Nearest I can compare is wild Rosa Rugosa growing in a mossy opening in a jungle.
Lovig this.💐💚
