This is very true brother Mehmet and majority of people dont realise that Ouddict is such a platform that it has given people the gateway into affordable artisinal Ouds. The issue with this is for newbies or less experienced Ouddicts they dont fully appreciate and understand what they are getting because of the price tag. Later on in their journey they will understand once they have tried alot more oils.

On the flipside for some people paying more or a certain brand gives them more satisfaction as they are programmed to think and feel elite and thus before they even smell an oil they think its amazing. We did a blind test here some years ago (which i feel is the best way of objectiveness) and the results were very interesting. Lower priced oils of what people would class as mid grade came top. Without a doubt top shelf Ouds can never be cheap but also shouldnt cost thousands but this is what i feel the market here expects, cheap oils at very low prices of high quality.

Once you set the bar its hard to then sell higher priced oils as people are used to cheap. This is one of the issues i have myself. Sometimes your own generosity can have a negative impact on you in the worldy life.
Totally agree
And another point i noticed nowadays, The most ardent defenders or fanatics of a brand, are the ones paid more.
What i mean is,if a guy collected oils from a brand worth 20.000-30.000$
İt is very hard for him to accept there are better oils than he has and paid for, because accepting there are better oils than he has,(even less or same price he paid) also means that he has to accept his knowledge is nothing,he paid useless etc etc
So these kind of people can defend the brand, better than brand owner

True this, the bias is for real. That’s what we meant also by comparing oils that are 10,20 years old to an oil that is a couple months old. Its unlogical …

Fat Swipe of dahn al oud amiri by ajmal for the night. When it comes to Hindi ajmal has you covered. I still prefer Saif al hind over this one but every now and then I do end up swiping this for the dry down. The opening is typical golden hay with tarty sour berries which slowly transforms to a sweet resinous phase which lasts till the deep dry down.

Read of night is about a French artist named Monet 🙂

This is very true. Honestly speaking for such people it becomes a duty to praise, glorify and even defend those expensive purchases. The other option is much more difficult to face, imagine looking at two cars in your garage one you paid 3 million dollars for, and the other 30 thousand. and the 30 thousand dollars car does better.

You would convince yourself, you would try to convince your neighbours, and you would probably scream off the roof top if it didn't make you look crazy, and let the world know how good your 3mil car is.

Its part of the human condition.

Brother, any specific reasons why you prefer Saif Al Hind over Ajmal Amiri? I understand Saif Al Hind would be better quality but since I haven't tried it yet, so I would love to know more about the differences in profile or quality of both.
I have been thinking about buying Ajmal's Saif Al Hind. Your insights would help me decide.

Seconding these questions!

Saif ul Hind is strange though, some people think it's a mixture of oud and other oils, whereas Amiri has never been doubted as being, 100% aged Hindi oud.

But personally agaroudh, I wouldn't really purchase either, you can get way more intriguing specimens from the artisan vendors community, for a much lower price to value ratio, some of which you've already secured. Especially when it comes to Saif ul Hind, it's a nice oil, but it can't dream of standing up against any Hindi from Brother Umair at Tabeer Oud for example. I do however understand the desire to have some, because it's such an commonly referenced oil.

Well … that’s because it is. Not sure their literature on it says it now - but in the past, it had mentioned that it was primarily Oud, with hints of Indian Rosewood, Spice, and a touch of Jasmine.

I’ve made my own version of this oil, inspired by the old batches of this Ajmal great. The other notes are more pronounced in mine - which leads me to believe they were very minute additions in the original batch of Saif al Hind. I didn’t add much in to mine, but they are still noticeable. Not so much in the Ajmal batches.

PS - personal big fan of the original Saif al Hind batch. Newer batches are still great - but not quite the original glory.

Personally I am not wealthy like that but I have spent a fair amount of time around some extremely wealthy people that own and drive basically any exotic car you can name. Some even own their own jets.

What I can tell you is, none of them the attitude you describe, lol. None of them get out of their Ferrari, Lambo, or Rolls Royce and feel the insecure need to convince their neighbors. I have never heard of any of them getting off of their private jet and needing to defend why it's better than flying coach with us peasants, haha.

They definitely are not sitting their mansions or at the exotic vacation screaming off the roof top to justify and defend their purchase.

I totally agree with you about EO having paid shills and the absurdity of people dropping $1,500-$5,000 on "exclusive" perfume release after "extremely rare" perfume release, seemingly every other day.

The appeal to cost fallacy and the perceived value effect is absolutely a real thing and can easily be exploited and is quite often exploited and can create this deep sense of buyers remorse that you speak to. The inverse is also true.

Plenty of things that are expensive are actually quite low quality and plenty of things that are inexpensive can be of very high quality. Many cheaper oils punch way above their price point and are in some cases, are even much better than their more expensive rivals.

As with anything - discernment is key. Not just blindly following a label, a pricepoint, or human herd mentality. Thanks for shedding light on that 🙂

Your experience and my example are two separate parts of the same problem. Neither are mutually exclusive.

The experience you share is when those people are not challenged about their purchase, if they were at a WRX cruise or at a GTR cruise, and their car is being beat, they will have the urge to do exactly what I described. It is part of human nature to defend ones turf, thoughts and beliefs.

In logic there is a maxim when it comes to examples, you give the extreme of the situation to make obvious the matter. The elucidation that comes from the example should be taken not the literal.

My example was highlighting a real time scenario, which I have tested a number of times in the Oudh scene, and that is what brother @mesOUD was also referring to. This isn't about any one vendor, but it is the fallacy of high price equals quality that is being addressed.

I have to say this entire conversation is very disrespectful to @Dr B1414

He is a very knowledgeable member of our community who shares his experiences with us. He has an understanding of many high tier and legendary ouds. He just voiced his opinions in a fair and balanced way and yet it seems there are accusations as if to call him a shill.

Truth is with respect I appreciate all the vendors of this forum, however Ensar does have some amazing products as well. There is a reason he has been successful and that everyone compares their products to him. He did create a gold standard for the marketplace. Unfortunately many of his products are very high priced and I am unable to buy from him often. However when I experienced his high end products many are truly incredible.

Not to say there aren’t many gems from the work of resident artisans here. It is just annoying to see accusations of shills, or back handed slights against a community member just because he gave his opinion. This should be a space for everyone to share truthful opinions in a fair way. If someone gives a slight criticism or says he prefers one product over another we shouldn’t jump to saying he’s a shill or in denial because he spent lots of money etc etc.

Ya I agree with you and did agree with you on all points, lol 🙂

The same thing you are saying here about oud, also goes for tea and many other consumables as well.

I repost the part where I explicitly agreed with you and reiterated your thesis in kind:

Just to jump in quickly, there are no accusations against @Dr B1414, he is making comparisons of oils that are 10+ some 20 years apart from eachother. Imo this creates bias, you cannot create a fresh oil that smells like it’s distilled in 1985, so why compare them ? This gives people the wrong impression of a product. Nobody is comparing products to Ensars product(with respect to brother Ensar)each has his own style i believe, this is what the whole point of the discussion was about, bias …

I can't speak for others but I agree with what you are saying here on all counts. I didn't see anything anyone saying as being a slight or denigration of what DrB said.

I don't think any of the artisans named EO directly but I can say that I did because it is true. Alongside everything you have said as well, is true.

There's a saying that goes "the nail that sticks out the most gets hit the hardest" and think that applies to anyone who is regarded as the best or at least the loudest within any space.

I have nothing but respect and gratitude for EO, but I can also think it's really a bit heavy handed when he openly compares himself to Beethoven, Mozart, or comments that his perfumes will be traded on the same level as Picassos in the not too distant future. To be fair, I can see how it he logically gets there though lol and there may be some truth to it.

Truth is, we are all quite fortunate and blessed to be able to engage in this niche, at whatever level or capacity we do.

Whether we like or agree with an artisan or company or not, it's safe to say that basically every vendor here has great products, as does Ensar, haha. Now what great means to us is of course variable and subjective, but I just want to reiterate that I have a lot of respect for the hustle and commitment of the artisans on this forum. 🙂

Sure and I think it is fair to point out this difference. Explain that one is highly aged vs a fresh oil. This is a fair and good point. He also gave many positive points about viet king btw.

I think it is when the discussion continued into all this talk of fallacies and people blindly defending brands is when it started to become inappropriate and a slightly veiled personal attack.

All members, all vendors, all arthists here are Very respectable people.
Let me tell u a true story to summarize and finish this discussion.
VendorA
DistillerB
CustomerC
VendorA is a vendor, whom never distilled or cleaned a pot and has a good name,DistillerB is is a skillfull distiller and VendorA is buying oil from this distiller.CustomerC is looking for an oil,OilX
VendorA is selling this oil to 10
But customerC is touching to distillerB,without knowing he is distiller of oilX and he has same oil from same batch, anyway he is buying same oil from distillerB to 1,instead of VendorA’s 10
But when someone ask him to compare oils from VendorA and distillerB,even people say they are same oil,he didnt accept and still saying VendorA’s oil to 10 price is phenomenol, distillerB’s oil is nothing.
This ia a true story,we talked about this not about anyone.
This tıopic is i think must be psychology’s topic
