I have to say this entire conversation is very disrespectful to @Dr B1414

He is a very knowledgeable member of our community who shares his experiences with us. He has an understanding of many high tier and legendary ouds. He just voiced his opinions in a fair and balanced way and yet it seems there are accusations as if to call him a shill.

Truth is with respect I appreciate all the vendors of this forum, however Ensar does have some amazing products as well. There is a reason he has been successful and that everyone compares their products to him. He did create a gold standard for the marketplace. Unfortunately many of his products are very high priced and I am unable to buy from him often. However when I experienced his high end products many are truly incredible.

Not to say there aren’t many gems from the work of resident artisans here. It is just annoying to see accusations of shills, or back handed slights against a community member just because he gave his opinion. This should be a space for everyone to share truthful opinions in a fair way. If someone gives a slight criticism or says he prefers one product over another we shouldn’t jump to saying he’s a shill or in denial because he spent lots of money etc etc.
The people on this forum are some of the nicest people you will come across and having a discussion about some of the challenges of the industry doesnt mean they were aimed at anyone or trying to put anyone down. As such i dont think the conversation should be interrupted by sentiment-based associations, names dropping does stifle conversations on here because people are too kind and dont want to upset anyone. But the reality is, we all have different levels of visibility of what goes on in this industry, and when people are kind enough to share insights for the benefit of everyone, then we should assume good of everyone, as i mentioned earlier these are some of the nicest people you gonna come across.

Just to put this into perspective.

When The distiller of the oil is selling the oil for $300, and the reseller is selling it for $1500 with marketing, there is nothing wrong with that. I am sure the vendor has business operating costs etc. However, when you have a customer who has been sent the oil from the distiller, and customer he/she themselves bought the same oil for $1500 from the reseller, and they begin to poop on the $300 oil, which is exactly the same oil. Now we have problem and that needs to be spoken about.

Anyone who is guilty of that, they need to sort themselves out, swallow the bitter pill of having paid too much on the second purchase, but dont poop on the same oil just because the distiller sells it for $300 and your favourite vendors for $1500 its the same oil. The fallacy tries to reconcile why that could be happening, because the alternative is much more brutal.

This is not talking about Dr B1414 or any particular vendor.

Crassna Cha by Ahom Oud.
This has to be the best Thai Crassna that I have tried yet. No syrupy intense sweetness.
Berries drenched in honey and amazing incense fumes. Beautiful velvety and mild sweetness with rich woody notes engulf the senses. Just a tiny swipe on the wrist is enough.
The unique character is it's mature and serious resinous profile. Not a fan of Trat region oud oils but this one took me by a pleasant surprise.

How will someone who possesses both the oils not know they’re the same oil, let alone talk bad about the cheaper one?
Unbelievable

What is funny is that our respected brother who was the subject of this conversation has done the exact opposite. When Faizal was able to source Oud Royale at a much cheaper price Dr B was one who was able to verify to us that it was the same oil, and heaped significant praise on Faizal.

I have to agree with @Kolalid
I dont have to talk in @Dr B1414 name but as an objective viewer of the thread, it sounded the way @Kolalid mentioned.
I had some conversations about different brands and oils with @Dr B1414 and if you know him, you will know that he is a very picky nose. He likes and dislikes oils from every brand (Ensar included).
The discussion took place after the Doc mentioned what he mentioned and it seemed directed to him.
Anyway I know all parties had no bad intention, its just the time and place of the discussion made it seem inappropriate/disrespectful etc.

He was comparing vietnamese oils in his collection that he wants to wear and enjoy these days and weeks. Ofcourse he will compare them regardless of their age as he wants to find an oil to swipe and enjoy NOW.
If he would try the same fresh oil in 5 10 20years, it may be his favorite vietnamese but who knows if we live this long.
I wish you a good and healthy life 😁

Ps.
@YusaAromatics is right as the comparison may not be fair due to age differences but selling fresh distilled oils or letting the oils age before selling is a different topic we can discuss in a dedicated thread.

Back to oud of the day:

Right now I'm sniffing a Sumatra oil, 2024, An Najwa. One of a set of samples i am feeling quite fortunate to have the chance to sniff.

This oil in my mind falls in the general category of the oceanic / ambergris type. I have no idea if anyone else would have the same association because it's so complex. Not sure what species of wood this would be from.

Not to say it literally smells like ambergris but there is something to my nose, there are some ouds from Sumatra in particular that bring it to mind (and I would think this would be an ideal oil to mix with ambergris which is actually giving me idea 🙂

This oil has moderate pungency, and a sweet custardy note that is most evident on deeper whiffs. That note is kind of like the opening of of zamrad 2 and my old Aceh oil from agarwoodindonesia. While those two oils are kind of custard note dominant to me, this one is a little more like a combination of a bit of that smooth sugary custard buried in some enticing resinous notes, and as well as ambergris type sweetened with vanillin. I can also see the very first hint of that wonderful deep oily note heavy malay and indo oils sometimes have.

I can't comment on longevity yet, but i love the second stage of this oil- i keep getting these enticing dry spicy notes wafting around me as i go in and out of the house, and a deeper whiff brings up this really delightful heavy oud resin scent which I wish was more common. I don't know how to describe it's a kind of solidity or density to the resinous notes that is super appealing and both distinctive and rare to encounter. I will need to wear this a few more times to really understand it but it is clearly another first class oud, that brings some of the better stuff from the past to mind.

Oh Wow, I just chimed in to see what's up and saw I was tagged a few times here and then read about the "drama". Just another day in the oud world I guess. Good think I don't stay subscribed to the threads though. Moving on🙂).

Back to oud of the day:
That's more like it.

Agar Aura Royal Sumatra
Agar Aura Royal Maluku
Agar aura Berkilau
Oriscent Purple Kinam

Not a coincidence. I can trace bits of the 3 AA oils in Purple Kinam so I felt like doing a case study.

I really want to try the royal maluku

I'm sitting on my Vietking for now because it's changing pretty rapidly. I sniff it from the bottle every few days, and the scent colour is actually getting brighter which seems counter-intuitive. With young oils the top notes can seem hidden sometimes. Maybe they are so volatile initially as to be barely perceived, or they are covered up by something else which then mellows. I have noticed something similar in wines. I think people will be surprised how different this oil smells once it hits a plateau.

Currently wearing Calypso from Oud Tripura. This is bright, with a cooked yellow/green tropical fruit vibe, and a decent amount of blueish incense streaming off the top. This is quite new gen, it's bright, smooth in the top notes no heat or funk but there is a pleasant muskiness. Nice gravelly drydown remiscent of spent wood.

How does PK compare to Sultani and Kannan Koh. I thought PK was inferior. Opening of PK has a very nice zest but dry down doesn’t compare to Sultani

How does Royal Maluku compare to Emperor of Maluku Jinko?

HM royal Laos from Sulaym. This is a profile I haven't smelled since the last bottle of lao super i ordered direct from Bolisat Lao PDR back in the day. This was the oud oil Enfleurage in NYC carried - there was a while where they were the only one with heavy oud in the US and they didn't make much of a big deal about it. This is pre-oriscent days and the owner Trygve was ahead of the game by a long shot.

again, literally a dead ringer for Bolisat Lao Super from wild wood in 1998 or so. They closed down shortly after that because they could not source the wood for this type of oil in Laos anymore. Not sure what the situation is these days but I was in contact with the owner of Bolisat and this what i was told.

Let us know your thoughts on Sher Shah. I feel you’re going to like it. It’s cultivated incense grade & has the “true to wood scent” from heart to base.

I have swiped it twice already and I'm starting to form an impression. Still don't quite feel like I know it well enough to comment but the quality is clearly there.

Did you grab the 5 X 0.25 sampler? If so, please share your experience with the Malay one, Muateq. That one sounds promising.
What is it about that oil that stands out to you? I do have a sample which i will get to at some point.
