Habzoud - Xiangshui

Sumatran Microcarpa wood, distilled long ago. Slight grapefruit wood polish notes in the open overpowered by extreme civet funk. Not a citrusy sweet civet, more of the big cat exhibit at the zoo type. Leather-bound books on dusty shelves of an old library. Spicy incense smoke carrying you in the drydown with the acrid spicy leather and challenging notes lingering in the background. A crazy oil that lasts forever and hits the spot perfectly for me!

I don’t remember smelling any civet funk🤔

swipe to sit in bed and read for 20mins, Haflong Afterburner by Rising Phoenix - awesome oil. A little bit of barn here but not overwhelming, was nice to get that kick from it which I've been missing in recent ouds that I've been wearing

Now it's another day, I'm at work so went for 2x Hindis
Hindi X by HabzOud - also in the same vein as the Haflong with a twinge of barn, a great old meets new school style mixup

Tuba by MesOud - deep deep red, swirling and bellowing like plumes of smoke. Love it!

I don’t remember smelling any civet funk🤔
nor any funk at all tbh, this is a very clean and ethereal oil to my nose

Does it smell animalic to you in any way? There’s a clear animalic sharpness to the oil that I get. I thought it reminded me of the same smell I’ve gotten from Bortnikoffs Mysterious Oud, which I believe had castoreum as its main animalic ingredient. Then I tried the Vietnam Classic + Civet paste maceration, and I believe the type of funk in smelling in Xiangshui is more similar to the funk in the VC + Civet. There’s a connecting scent between these for me, but it could definitely be something other than civet.

Yall have me wondering if I got the right oil in my sample vial😂
I also get the same as @FreeSoul @Oudamberlove & @Sproaty
Its more of a sharp medicinal green opening (A bunch of people who dont know oud and I let them smell it, said it smells medicinal to them). I would describe it as ethereal green.
Settles to a resinous beautiful slightly sweet drydown while retaining its green slightly vegetal profile from what I remember.
Can still smell like civet for you, thats the beauty of oud. Sniff it from the sample vial directly, or on a piece of paper or clothes and see if it smells different or less animalic/civety ?

It’s actually very possible that this intense “green, medicinal, Chinese herbal shop” smell that I’m getting is just so powerful in this oil that I’m mistaking it for the eye-watering funk of the civet. Being a Caucasian American it’s a smell I don’t find frequently in my day-to-day life. I very well could be mistaking the “bitter bite” of both of these scents. Learning something new everyday🙏

I would describe Xianshui as having that piercing dusty old vintage mercedes leather interior note with vaperous low chip incense with a bitter woody medicinal hit and the smell of old top grade agarwood chunks. Theres a mysterious ancient aura around this oil, transports you somewhere far.

HM Royal Maroke 1990's Sulaym has my attention at the moment. I wore a little bit last night and put on another dab this morning.

This one has facets of some old maroke oils i have, but also am getting notes I associate with gulf style oud in general and some higher end malay oils i have smelled. There is this very nice deep sophisticated old oud note right in the thick of the scent that I have smelled in the old Royale and Oudline km super ateeq that i very much enjoy. I see this as a very satisfying and somewhat multi faceted oil, bringing together things that I've enjoyed in separate oils in the past.

I don't really have the knowledge to make this call but it almost seems to me like this might be two different species of agarwood codistilled, or if not, a great example of age and the distiller's craft making something special.

Scent perception is funny, my current favorite incense stick Kyara Houzan shows three different faces depending on when I smell it. The other day, a day after smelling Lindaraja oud, everything I smelled reminded me of Lindaraja….like it was a phantom scent. After a session of heating agarwood, then lighting incense sticks, the combustion note is much more evident.

So if you perceived civet, then so it is😊

It is most likely the leather and medicinal woody incense bitter combination that leads me to feel the civet. You’re description sounds more accurate to what I was experiencing. Thank you brother

There’s been a bunch of musks and civet getting swiped on, can definitely call it a “recency bias”. I see myself grabbing more of this oil when the funds arrive and if it doesn’t sell out. Will have plenty of sessions to get into the nitty-gritty of it on a cleaner palette.

Maunamoku - Hirta Deadwood.

Not gonna do too much of a write up because its 20c here and 69-70% humidity and no one in Scotland has an AC in their houses as heat like this is short lived but is brutal lol.

Lovely oil, nice green opening with a sweet and sourness to it, red sour berry-like notes with a spicy purple, wet, lush, green jungle, as it develops gets super clear with the camphor, and jungle greenery intensifies greatly, lots of spiciness and sweetness, sourness, spicy fruits, sour fruits mixed with a syrupy cola, lovely powdery florals, some citrus almost peering on the edge of frankincense, very resinous and woody incense notes, woody incense notes nearer then end then delightful agarwood, floral, and fruity notes.

Great oil, love it so much, one of the tops 👑.

HM Maroke. Purple Malay. Oud Royale all have the same old woody DNA

Do you think HM Royal Malay (I got 1.25-1.3g of this oil but only have a tiny bit left, it as an amazing oil, and I am refusing to use it till its done, I want to preserve it forever and when its completely gone and super rare, sell it for some more kyara haha) has a DNA similar to any ensar oil?

Not sure. Haven’t tried all the top end ensar oils. As you know Oud Royale isn’t a ensar oil perse.

HM royal Malay is very nice too. Similar to HM Maroke. All the SQ oils have these old notes that are beautiful.

Ensars best oil he acquired is Oud Sultani in my limited opinion. The few Oriscent ive tried are way different type of oils and distillation technique.
