Sulaym Malay Supreme 2021

I had basically used up the sample but there was just enough to get out one more drop. At this point I'll probably top the bottle up with alcohol so I can at least continue to experience this oil's unique presence. This one is a yellow straw color but there's not enough in the bottle to photograph.

there's something very distinctive to the top note that sets this oil apart. Some of you have experienced the unique high register tang of certain wild sinensis distillations - mesoud had/has one like this, this has some of that kind of bright tanginess without smelling like sinensis per se. There is also a unique herbal note to the bitterness that backs the sweet tanginess - it's reminding me a little bit of very dilute tagetes. At the moment I am struggling to bring to mind any other oils i have smelled recently like this but can't immediately think of any. This has some pungency buy it's the good kind, not the weird sour woody type.

Oriscent Port Moresby
EO Sultan Ahmet

Although they are both New Guinea oils (Ahmet only partially), they feel rather opposites. PM is smoky, dark, and dry wood, whereas Ahmet feels like a chypre-oriental perfume in the form of oud oil. Like Suriranka Senkoh and Borneo 5000 had a child. I wore a perfume recently from the house of Ys-Uzac called έαρ 16, which reminded me of Sultan Ahmet. I don't know which one is more brilliant, the perfume, or the oud oil. Micotti is an outstanding perfumer and one of the very few who understand artisanal oud and use it to the maximum potential in their perfume compositions. Then again, to think that an oud oil can be as smooth and seamlessly put together as a perfume which is the case with Sultan Ahmet, proves that some distillers also have a deep understanding of what perfumery is supposed to be. Blessed to experience such olfactory works of art.

@mesOUD - Malinau
@Al-Hind Oud - Lao Gold V2
@mesOUD x @YusaAromatics - Levent
@Habz786 - Raja Hijau

Lots of amazing stuff worn recently, and one that isn’t to my preference. Malinau is just simply too close to the wet ashtray left in the rain smell. I prefer the clean polished leather to shine in this style of ouds like in Sumbawa Black and Oud Said.

Lao Gold V2 is the pure golden sinensis with a deep dar berry opening. Goes through a beautiful resinous green and woody drydown. Probably the cleanest Laotian oil I’ve tried and from the ones easily available right now.

Levent, I still don’t have the words to fully describe it. The dry sulfuric gasoline was much shorter this wearing, shifting to an aquatic pungent floral gas. Sweet sugary woody drydown that lasts for hours and hours., even after a shower. Will hopefully be able to write a little more on it soon.

Raja Hijau for my swipe of the morning today. Sweet candied blue florals and pungent gas. Lemon lime fizzy cola and mango skins. So citrusy, possibly one of the Tangiest oils in my collection. A true banger.

I haven’t been using Vietking from Mesoud because I haven’t got much and want to experience its journey over the coming years but I opened the vial to smell it just now and wow the way this has developed already is impressive it’s a joy to just smell it from the vial!
I've been somewhat sick with a flu/cold so have not worn Levent or Vietking yet but have been smelling from the vial also. I cannot believe these are still so young. Potent and beautiful. There's a certain quality I have noticed with high grade distillations, it's like a zap direct to the brain, even just from the vial.

@mesOUD - Vietnam Classic + Civet Paste

Extra large double helping of this oil tonight since I have more coming my way. Have never applied quite this much before of this one, even though I tend to do fat swipes. The skanky zoo funk of the civet is unreal. I don’t have to bring my wrist anywhere close to my face to get blasted by it. Eye-watering. Wearing this one really makes you feel alive

I know there's not much love for budget stuff here but here is some more feedback on those nineregion hainan oils: my advice is to avoid these - dull smelling extractions with emphasis on salivary notes, also one bottle advertised as 3g was actually only two.

EO Oud Sultani 2001 for today. I finally got around to cutting the plastic dipstick. Naturally, I swiped everything on me before proceeding to do the cut and it was a lot of oil holding to the stick. This oil is rather light in color yet one of the most viscous oils I have seen. It's like molasses. So I ended up saturating all my skin spots with it. No room left for something else to swipe beside it. I'm not sure that I want to though.
Scent-wise, this is one of my favorite oils ever. This is an oud that even angels would wear. Floral and dripping with honey. This one, Kannan Koh, and Berkilau are the most beautiful Malay oils I witnessed. The most "pretty", if you want.

I'm struck by how saturated the top notes are with Levant. There is some ideal level of phenolic/roasted notes that have good projection, and something nose-grabbing in a way that brings "soapy" to mind that I associate with a small number of top shelf ouds I have smelled. The roasted and soapy aspects are refined and 100% appealing senses of those adjectives.

ASO's Al Shreef II had a similar super dense top which also had saturation to the point of being "soapy" (albeit a completely different species / type of scent altogether).

There's always love for budget stuff 😂 maybe not for super low quality stuff though 😂

The kyarashrine green kinam oil takes some getting used to but is a significant cut above the oil from nineregions at the same price point that I sampled

Swiping the last drop of a drop left in the bottle of Oriscent’s Oud Royale. Haven’t touched this for just under two years and finally using up the last of it seems like a crime, but all things come to an end I suppose.

Not entirely sure how to describe this one other than it smells like how being loved feels. Deep, rich, colourful, soothing. Without a doubt the nicest oil I’ve been privileged enough to own.

Raja Hajau from Habzoud. Very interesting oil - unique sandalwood like viscosity, color and feel but the aroma is all oud of course.

I get the classic indo/malay green gaharu scent profile - a bit tart, wetland / balsam poplar, some rich resiny notes, and a lovely clarity and honey like aspect to the oil. Has space and clarity in the way that haitian vetiver has compared to other regions or pursat compared to thai. This oil has a clean aroma, no fermentation notes or stank. It is surprisingly gentle in its presence and would be a good oil to show to someone new to oud as it has sweet candylike, floral, and fuzzy earthy/mulchy ambergris vibes all of which seem close to being universally appealing scents.

Quite a distinctive oil - can't comment on longevity yet - I will comment later once I get to experience the dry down. It seems like it will be a beautiful one based on the changes so far.

I'm so pleased I spent the cash to get a larger sample of this as this is the first of this profile that I have. It's really very unique (to me) and I have no issue wearing this one particularly around people who have not smelled oud before. I had a swipe of this one on the other day when getting picked up by my brother in law and his wife. When I got in the car his wife commented that I smell like incense! Wonderful compliment. I'll absolutely be getting some Gaharu Uno as it's same same but different but in such a good way. Side note..thank you for that little tip on topping up finished sample bottles with an ethanol. What a fantastic way to keep the love going! This has just expanded the volume of my sample collection massively.

Al-HindOud - Thai Zen This stuff is nuts! Firstly I could be wrong but I feel like brother @Al-Hind Oud generously topped up the bottle for me because when I took the lid off there is so much in the bottle that I can do multiple healthy swipes from inside the lid alone. This is addictive oud 100%. Serious rasberry jam notes sit on top immediately followed by a classic Thai funk. It really does come second though. Whenever I smell oud that has the fermentation note it's generally the first thing I smell but not with this one. Will comment further at a later date. Also have a sample here of LAO Gold V2. I think when the time comes for me to add a good Lao to my collection it'll be this one.

@mesOUD Habib
Opened up my bottle after a month of my first swipe, this swipe is so different! This Oud oil is 2 months old Today. I was going to vault my bottle for 6 months, but after seeing how different Levent was after only a week i just had to give it another try! To say Habib was such a mind buzz would be an understatement. Mentholic opening and floral resinous dry down i’m in love! Getting a gram was the right decision.
