NTK smells really different from when I first bought it. Although I've always enjoyed it I could never get past that medicinal/bitter/nutty note. Anyway I'm fucking with it.
I sure like that NTK. Been experiencing higher end oils this past year - kind of hard to keep any perspective on quality with these refined / selected oils because each is so excellent in one way or another, but that one really has something in it that rubs my nose the right way. I'm pacing myself to make the sample last.

Another really fine oils is the 1979 Burmese of SQ's (via Sulaym) HM Sultan Qaboos. Not the kind of thing (a favored oil from the collection of a sultan - i feel absurd even uttering that) I ever anticipated to smell in my lifetime. I can see how these SQ oils reflect the traditional styles of gulf-region oud, and present pretty much the best of it (without the usual off notes that I have come to accept and even at times appreciate that drag lower grade stuff down a bit). Really seems meticulously crafted / selected / cured to bring out a balance of pleasant ferment, aged wood, soft tobacco, oily cola-ish tang. Reminds me of the old HM Oud Royale (oriscent) which I used to have a tad of and feel was a comparable style / quality / grade of oil.

I've really been enjoying some of the budget CK extractions that I've gotten my hands on. I'm almost embarrassed to admit it around here haha because I know that there is not a whole lot of love for these large volume plantation oils. It's been a long time since I have been tempted to carry a bottle of a low end plantation oil with me as my daily carry, but these days it is two bottles of CK oil that complement each other. Neither would be mistaken for "fine oud" but if i apply a drop on my beard or collar and then just forget about it, I am surrounded all day by a cloud of scent that is surprisingly rich and pleasant and kinam-like. I'll go out on a limb here, and some people will probably roll their eyes at this or question my nose, but I am getting aspects of Vietnamese oud scent from the dry down of these oils that I used to have to turn to my "Royal Kinam" for (previously carried a 2% dilution of that oil for a long time)

Swipe of the evening is Levent @mesOUD

3rd time wearing and long due impression sharing

So the distillation is from sinking grade wood from Leyte. When the talk is about oils from the region, OR is what stands the tallest and that has become a comparing control for many who have tried it. This oil despite being from the region takes a complete different route. If you’re into sci-fi and fantasy genre you’d know how they walk phase through walls; there is very high frequency of side ways movement that makes it happen. With this oil I get that side ways movement. It oscillates at a super high speed and takes you through the whole scent profile in micro seconds. Each time you try pausing it by taking a deep sniff, you get something different. It’s uplifting and subtly fresh at too with relaxing warm nutty aroma…it also radiates mild spices mixed with the smooth woody earthiness. Very clean and a bar of vanillic creamy vapours is what comforts the whole journey.

Mehmat is an artist who does not believe in writing fancy - he makes his work sing.

MashaAllah

MesOud - Pursat Gold I've got serious FOMO with all this talk of his Pursat chips so, thankfully I can reach for this and get the concentrated version. I love this Pursat. Very slight ferment at the opening but then it goes into a long dry down of a really lovely sweetness that hangs around all day. Good stuff!

Sometimes I swear we're share ideas through some sort of thought channel, I kid you not, this exact thing occurred to me today because it was a custom distillation mesOud commissioned and oversaw, I wondered if the chips used, were perhaps in the ballpark of the famous wood!

I appreciate you clarifying that brother mehmet! 😃 I'm sure the upcoming Crassna distillations (in additional to the others) will be truly an experience! 🔥

I still can't get enough of your sinking green CK distillations, both the pure CK and when used with other woods like in Seven Hills, and that's not even getting started on the likes of Habib, VietKing, and Levant 🌟

All good man. No misunderstanding here. It's about the profile for me.🙂

Soroor - MesOud If you could put perfection into a bottle this would be it. Everyone that loved Oud Said can still get some of the remaining oil PLUS musk and ambergris. It is still Oud Said through and through but it has a gentleness to it now. Even more masculine if that's possible. I think @Mr.P has used the word "soap" a number of times? I'm definitely getting that here as well as the leather and tobacco. I got a .25ml bottle and I actually think this will last many years as the oil is quite thin and a little goes a long way. 10/10 Nice job mate.:handok::clapping:
