Kalbar 2019 by TOL @AbuTominaga (unreleased)
this is a super oil. starting with the most sweet coffee note, then moves towards a delicious fruity heart and ends to a green woody jungle vibes drydown. lovely oil!
I'll give it another ride, nevertheless it's no brainer for me.
From the notes you mentioned Indonesia came to mind , is it an Indo ?

Enjoying a small swipe of alnamir from
@Habz786 - this one has a really nice peppery / spicy aspect over sweet balsamic oud gaharu core. Another one I still don't understand well because I'm testing so many things over the course of a day here, and I would need to wear just this for a day to really understand its development.
Beautiful oud though, I think this would distract and appeal to anybody who caught a whiff of it on a breeze.

Al Malek Al Maliyzi - ASO.
These high grade Malaysian distillations from ASO are as dignified as you can get. When posting about the Al Malek series, I feel intimidated because my words cannot do such oils any justice!

Although, Al Malek Al Maliyzi is replete with a resinous aged Oudy darkness recalling vanilla, dates, plums, ancient woods the top notes are alive & buzzing with minty green jungle camphor, lemongrass. Definitely floral, mossy, some ripe fruits in the mid notes before that long lasting expansive Malaccensis resin dry down. One can definitely feel a change in psyche after applying such oils.

Absolutely. One of those full perfume ouds. My partner also really likes most of what I have here from Habzoud. They're a whole different ball game.

Well said.

I remember that you’re a fan of Al Malek Al Maliyzi also, Mr P.

Al Malek Al Malacca is the brother oil of Maliyzi, another clean, yet dark Malaysian distillation, deeply resinous but lively. I see fragrance in colour & they’re both black & gold. To my nose, they exhibit this austere, serious, Royal aroma that is unique to Al Shareef.

Sulawesi wild filaria oud.
It’s my first time trying a wild oud and a filaria oud.
The scent is most unusual to me. It’s soothing, relaxing, and cool. It’s thick buttery resinous and ever so slightly sweet, reminds me of senisis Chinese ouds. With a slight note of earth and dry wood, and also a note that I picked up is cucumber, or some sort of cool green vegetable skin. Not like vetiver or moss, but more like cucumbers, and watermelon skin. Wish I had a bigger sample to try it for longer.

Two Brunei oils from Oud.sg today, just landed about an hour ago. Im always a bit nervous to try new sources since Im rather picky when it comes to oils, but these do not disappoint.

Brunei ant

Oud Berunai - distilled in 2024, so still a bit fresh probably

Ive tried a fair amount of Brunei oils such as Kyara de Kalbar, Brunei kynam, Fushigi Brunei, and a few Brunei oils from Agar Aura. I did not care for the AA oils as they smelled pretty 1-d and too much like dryer sheets to be interesting. Kyara de Kalbar and Brunei kynam are obviously good oils but quite expensive to say the least.

Oud Berunai could easily be a doppelgänger for Kyara de Kalbar minus the powderyness but with much more complexity and dynamics.

Brunei ant: slight petrichor/peanut note with some spice and cedarwood. which was surprising since I would expect that more from a borneo profile. Yet it still has like a blue cooling top note of a brunei.

Overall the oils have a 3d quality, w nice projection, even from small amounts. Clear opening then nice transition. Complex and deep yet still clear with some high pitch.

Looking forward to seeing how they develop and open over time since these are only my initial impressions.

Are Brunei woods/distillations typically A. Crassna or are they the other two from the region but I'm assuming rarer to find?
