Mostly Beccariana, Microcarpa & Malaccensis in Brunei, from memory. I don’t think much Crassna grows in Borneo naturally.
Right, thanks for the clarification. The information sheet I was looking at last night was completely wrong then. I see why because I was looking for trees from Brunei and it was giving me trees from Malaysia. Obviously Brunei is part of Malaysia but is on the island of Borneo. Got a bit confused for a second.

No worries, it can be confusing especially since high grade Bruneian woods & oils can often exhibit kinamic notes & a red sweet muskiness like Crassna. Brunei one of my favourite regions, everything I’ve sampled from there has been amazing.

Two Brunei oils from Oud.sg today, just landed about an hour ago. Im always a bit nervous to try new sources since Im rather picky when it comes to oils, but these do not disappoint.

Brunei ant

Oud Berunai - distilled in 2024, so still a bit fresh probably

Ive tried a fair amount of Brunei oils such as Kyara de Kalbar, Brunei kynam, Fushigi Brunei, and a few Brunei oils from Agar Aura. I did not care for the AA oils as they smelled pretty 1-d and too much like dryer sheets to be interesting. Kyara de Kalbar and Brunei kynam are obviously good oils but quite expensive to say the least.

Oud Berunai could easily be a doppelgänger for Kyara de Kalbar minus the powderyness but with much more complexity and dynamics.

Brunei ant: slight petrichor/peanut note with some spice and cedarwood. which was surprising since I would expect that more from a borneo profile. Yet it still has like a blue cooling top note of a brunei.

Overall the oils have a 3d quality, w nice projection, even from small amounts. Clear opening then nice transition. Complex and deep yet still clear with some high pitch.

Looking forward to seeing how they develop and open over time since these are only my initial impressions.
Who is this supplier please?

Maunamoku - Hirta Deadwood.
Sweet. creamy, resinous, Malay agarwood incense notes with a very fresh, slightly minty forest notes with greenery, trees, subtle sweet and sour purple berries, sophisticated cola notes sometimes mixed with the fruits, soft powderiness with some white honeyed florals in an almost kinamic way, with vanillic cream notes too.

I could get WAY more in-depth as this is such a complex oil tbh, but it is late here.

I had 1.25-1.5g nearly 11 months ago now, and still have a good 0.5g or so left.

😍😍😍😍.

Budget ck layering experiment blowing my mind - cannot believe this material exists these days. very much depends on the batch you get - there are too many bland and even borderline disgusting ck oils out there for sure.

I'm making a very small batch blend out of that green CK oil from KyaraShine. I'm using the "Revival" Merauke from Grandawood, that green CK oil and some S.Album oil. Smells like honey right now. I'll let that sit for a bit then I plan to add an ambergris oil tincture to bring them all together. Seems to be working.

Damn people are getting into attar making as I am getting into it too!!! I made my first successful attar by just mixing random oils and jasmine lol and it turned out to work out well, and the sandalwood acts as a true dry down base, instead of it being a large note throughout the top and mid notes. Its nice. I am onto my second one now.

That sounds great

Yunnan Vintage - Kymya / The Attar Store.

Another one of Hamza’s Taiwanese distillations. A very clean oil, quite sheer with a sunny brightness. A beautiful bitter, medicinal Kinamic top note which lasts a very long time into the duration of the oil on skin.
As the oil progresses a beautiful floral note emerges with the honey, dry fruits & herbs. The dry down is the resinous, dry woody, only slightly sweet & powdery tonality of high grade Chinese Sinensis. The bitterness is perceived from the top note until the final stages, without ever feeling harsh but pristine & refined.

Sounds great. That sunny quality of sinensis can be quite a treat.

Brunei is not part of Malaysia. It’s its own country, but it’s a small country which is nestled snugly into the coast of Malaysian Borneo.
Ya know, amongst all the other things that I've been learning since getting into Oud is that my geography is nowhere near as good as I thought it was. 🙏

Imperial Maroke from Sulaym

I love Maroke oils the most I think, but at the same time they are the most difficult for me to describe 🤯
What they do is: They force me to calm!

Awesome!

(Slightly more ethereal than SQ one from Sulaym with less smoke but with a more brighter frankincense note. I also
Detect cardamom and cloves)

Oud Beranai from Oud.Sg

On my 3rd wear of this one and it has gotten a bit better each time. Clear transitions with an opening, middle, and a final dry down stage that comes hours later. Oil seems to last 6 hours or so, fairly easily. Overall profile reminds we quite a lot of Kyara de Kalbar from EO but a bit more dynamic and of course, roughly 1/10 the price.

I prefer this one to Brunei ant since it's more of the profile I would expect, whereas the ant is leans much more towards a woody Borneo, with Brunei blue notes on top. Although ant is a fair bit cheaper than Beranai, so if someone wanted a rather economical clean Borneo/Brunei oil, it would be a good option.
