Fiet-Nam Al-Hind Oud, I must admit, I find this oil a head scratcher. Couldn't be any different from most other oils I have, if not all of them. It's taken a good week of solid sniffing even to get to this point where I feel I can put down an impression. All this because, I can barely smell it! I know it's just me because my partner can smell it, so why is it so elusive? As I've now come to believe, with some help from Mr P is that I'm unconsciously comparing it to other ouds that are very loud with a strong opening and projection. I get none of this from this oil. Even after fat swipes the scent is barely there. I feel this oud is shy with me. Almost reluctant to show me the beauty in this bottle. I think my nose just doesn't know how to come at this one. It's taken a bit of time but out of the bottle I get notes of incense like I've been handling a stick and there is powder on my fingertips. On my skin it's slightly antiseptic and a little soapy. When the mind can't think of an appropriate adjective or assoiciation for a point of reference it's like I'm blind to what I'm smelling. Lot's of learning to do with this oud. I may try it on some clothing and see how that goes. Anyone else have impressions of this oud?

Very interesting. You might have caught some kind of fever from your trip to Vietnam, give some break and visit it later 😁.

It's lovely..don't get me wrong. In fact just today after writing the above I finally discovered some really soft powdery notes in the middle dry down that I hadn't come across earlier. It's like a slow blossom, this oud.

It’s actually quite common for people to be unable to smell volatile top notes especially with how complex oils are. What I would try to do is not wear anything for half the day. Put the tiniest drop you can on your hand. Don’t smell it at all. Just wave your hand around your face and try and see if you can perceive the scent. I have a feeling your olfactory receptors are being overloaded and literally blanking out the smell.

I deal with this ALL the time.

Solid advice. I'll give it a go.

Al Namir - Habz

Firstly, what a great name for an oil!
After smelling several different batches of Filipino woods, this is the first Fili oil I’ve ever tested.
A black, royal, ancient aroma. After a clean jungle green & cooling herbal top note the profile quickly shifts into low heat session on the sub, the Cumingiana resin note reveals itself in layers of a rounded Agarwood sweetness, darks fruits (Habz mentions cherries, which I definitely perceived) spicy incense, flowers, a hint of Musk. Very clear & precise, yet densely complex.

Every 30 mins during the day I was checking the single swipe on my forearm & was amazed at how the profile developed becoming deeper, more resinous, sweeter, complex at every sniff. It was 35 degrees Celsius in Melbourne today, the heat & sun did nothing to affect this experience unlike some other oils in my collection, even after 10 hours Al Namir was radiant until I washed up after work.
You can’t fake these types of oils with distillation techniques, the grade of the wood & it’s beautiful resin is evident. Excellent work.

Noice!! I have a gram of this arriving tomorrow! 😁😁

[Ouddict.com] Oud of the Day

Meraoki double super chip on mica.
It’s the first time I try it like this, usually I burn it with a very hot coal.
The scent is very different now, there’s more powdery notes, a lot more sweet caramel burnt benzoin kind of notes that I notice now. About 3-4 minutes in it stops smoking but keeps giving a powdery, sweet scent for a while without smoke.

I love Merauke wood on low heat and also on high heat. But I prefer the hindi or Thai on high heat, somehow the sweetness of those 2 regions blends beautifully with the bold smoke/burnt wood oud aroma.
Merauke is not my favorite region generally speaking (neither wood nor oil)

The merauke we used to get 5-6 years ago was 10 times better than these days, I remember I used to smell the smoke an inch off the coal and it was as cool as ice on my lungs and eyes, but now with the forests depleting we’re getting mostly very low grade stuff for the same price. The old one needed a red hot coal or even two or three coals to even give smoke, and would keep giving five six minutes after you put it. Now it just burns to ashes and smells like just wood. So I tried it today on a mica plate + an ashy coal and it gave a nice aroma, close to the old one but not up to standard.

Hindi is harsh on the eyes on a hot coal but I agree as you said it smells amazing when burned hot, sweet and spicy and the smell sticks to everything

Hello Ouddicts, i hope you are all well 😊

Vietking 🍒 🍭🍪🍈🍍

It’s like Anis star was stolen on the night dress of the sky and putted in a Glass jar infused with licorice candy … and the icing on the cake … Griottes Cherry 🍒

The sweetness and the bitterness are very well balanced ! Vanillic nougatine, shadow of pineapples and Melon !
I’ve never smelled such top notes in any Viet oils … never !
I remember the Very berry Thaï Cherry from EjayB that I love
Vietking is 4k Version of it … better Accuracy in the top notes without any green notes or powdery bitterness… it’s more rounded , refined , with a crystal clear preciseness !

It’s an amazing oil honestly… I am impressed by the top notes !!
Kinamic at the most point !!!
It remind me GENT with The highest notes flying around !
The dry down of this oil is very Kinamic also …
I catch that typical Viet clean light leathery note a la Vietnan Special k !!
But again the licorice scent is unbelievable…
The cherry flavor is unmistakable…

It’s very different than KKN or NTLTD…
Less powdery, more sweet !

This oil smell Red to my nose … 🍒
I remember EO Kinam rouge … nothing like Vietking … but this oils should be called Kinam Rouge maybe ^^

Here I have experienced one of the best Viet oil ever …
It’s deeply hard to explain what is happening with this juice at the moment your nose kissing it …
It’s an experience, an adventure…

Vietking, EOC, Kanbi Koh are the cleanest sweet oils I have ever smelled … it’s like they distilled something else than usual Oud 🤣 If Subitism didn’t existed to understand what are Top notes in Agarwood…
If someone use to burning Oud in charcoal, he would be able to swearing it’s not Oud …

The best thing to do is to get Subitism, good quality wood from different species of aquilaria and starting a session with tiny swipe of an oil from same species …

Vietking got some of ultra top notes of Wild Kyara I don’t saying that to makes people want to buy it cuz it’s sold out even for me 😓 it’s just the truth I am feeling and after tried few different « kinam oil »
Here is the most accurate oil of Wild Kyara in terms of notes at least !

I am very curious to know if someone tried Vietking and also get wild kyara to compare it …
I did … and it is very close sincerely

I wish you all a very Gooud Day Ouddicts 💚

A small swipe of kyarashrine CK oil. Not bad for the price as a functional source of pleasant oud notes. This is not an outrageous elixir like the vintage and artisanal stuff out there. it is simple innocuous sweet ck, and the aroma is not very well balanced so it has harsh facets that make it feel like raw material as opposed to fragrance or perfume in itself. I am glad to have a bottle nonetheless.

There are several different types of cultivated kinam and this one has a minty top note profile, which I prefer to the benzaldehyde or violet flower/cassie types which can he cloying. This one has a very nice dry down, which is what draws me to it when I want to smell wafts of sweet oudiness but don't want to use the really good stuff. Another benefit of this is that it is quite gentle and "public friendly" since where I live no one is used to smelling oud.

Received my sampler from @Habz786 tonight. Many thanks! I smelled a few from the dipsticks and chose to put a small dot of gaharu uno on my shirt sleeve. Getting a very nice cooling note and some sweet spices off the top. Small amount of earthy leather undertone.

This sample set will keep me busy for quite a while and I can tell will be a real treat.

Enjoy it - some heavy hitters there I imagine. 🙂 The Uno is delicious
