Great to see Oud Al Aqsa in that list!

Did you get to try Habzoud's latest Philippines Al Namir? It's outstanding.

I don’t know why, but I can’t get into Habzoud’s oils even though a lot of people seem to think they are great. The only one I really like is Maroke Qadeem.

And with that said, I didn’t like Al Namir much either. Kinda seems like I am the only one.
I guess it's all subjective. Funnily his Maroke Qadeem is the one I like the least.

Al Malek Qadeem

I like this one but I have trouble describing the scent. It’s not super strong but it’s deep and dark and feels powerful. It somehow reminds me of Oud Ahmad a bit. There’s also a slight floral note.

It also is one of the few oils which affects my mind. I’ve noticed that if I put it in my beard it does nothing at first, but oddly enough I get a bit of nausea after about 15 minutes, and then after a few minutes it goes away. Then I get a somewhat pleasant subtle mood shift.

It’s happened a few times and I don’t think it’s coincidental or placebo, but it’s strange and it could be.
I had the same feeling with ASAQ 150 year old kalakassi oud 2013/14 oil. It was like a beautiful marmalade made of lemony wood. But it became nauseating a bit if overly applied. I realised less was more with that 150 year old oil. I haven't tried Al malek Qadeem but perhaps you could try using a much smaller swipe of Al malek Qadeem?

I tried almost all of Habz offerings this year, and the only one I really liked was Maroke Qadeem, exactly like Phan.
Al Namir was nice but not my taste.

Aged Prachin Oud purchased locally.
It’s my first prachin Oud and honestly it’s hard to decipher, there’s a resinous sweet coolness to it not far from fresh new gen Meraoki oud, even close to Filipino oud oil. Along with sweet creamy florals and smoke in the back.

On my left I have it next to a swipe of Persian rose oil, it highlights its airy minty floral aspects very well. Very elegant and easy on the nose

On my right it’s mixed with a generous swipe of ruh gulab, it’s deeper, more resinous, brings out damp earth and muskiness and citrus rind notes. Very rich, very bright and clear. I think I added too much ruh gulab on the right but my point stands.

This is of course with the oils directly on my skin, they will probably behave differently if the oud and rose(s) were mixed in one bottle and left to macerate and mix.

I'm actually taking the leap today and trying my first Hindi oud! I have a nice handful of samples mainly due to Mesouds generous sample set from a while ago. I have smelled those but never actually worn any. I have also just received a Hindi sample from Al-Hind Oud called Hind Jadeed. Already this has broken my preconceived ideas on hindi's as it has a very smooth start. I may have thought otherwise a year ago before I had a heap of ouds under my nose but now it's almost like a smokey leather honey? Really very nice. Excited to be taking this step along the oud brick road.

Welcome to the most addictive territory of the oud world, Hindiiii

I’m happy to hear you took the leap of faith. The Smokey leather honey is in the core of almost every Hindi oud, it’s up to the distiller how he reveals this core and how to embellish it.
Don’t be afraid to try more “barn” type Hindi ouds, they more often than not hide behind that harsh outer crust a very beautiful soft core.
We call Hindi ouds “the king” here in the gulf for a reason 😁 you can’t go wrong with it

I also have a relatively undeveloped palate for Assam / Hindi so I look forward to hearing your thoughts as you work through them. I've smelled a handful of things that I really liked but I haven't been able to sort out yet the different variables that influence it (region, wood grade, processing, etc.). I've also never found one that hooked me to the point where I wanted to bring it with me. This tells me I haven't put in the work needed to acquire the taste because some of the things I've smelled are pretty top shelf. That may sound a little backwards logically but I'm talking about quality oils loved by people whose tastes I trust completely. I have no problem seeing it like learning about blue cheese
