Pursat Cheroot (2014), Yusa

Hey @YusaAromatics - have you been keeping this to yourself?

I'm surprised I don't see more reviews of this - it is one of a small number of cambodi oils that I really enjoy. Thick and wonderful smelling oud - this tester is precious.

Hindi no 1 by Tabeer oud today - 2nd wearing and this is a very interesting take on Hindi oud.

This is a Hindi oud oil without the fermented notes you’d imagine a Hindi oud to have. It opens up with minty green, powdery note which is wrapped around a lactonic core which is described as ‘kinamic’ by many. The deeper I sniff, I get more of the lactonic notes here mixed with hints of sour berries. The profile then moves into a slightly nutty aroma which takes it to the classic sweet resinous Hindi dry down.
This is perhaps a non soaked or slightly soaked Hindi oil.

No similarities to Nashila ( the only non soaked Hindi I have)

Very interesting oil

Yusa’s Kanmi

This one is really interesting. Packs a lot of complexity for its age and being plantation.

Very classically red with dried fruits and honey. There a bitter quality here that is really nice. I get hints of muskiness which balances out the sugary glaze.
We do not sell plantation oils just to clarify.
But glad you like it ! Enjoy!

Really got stuck into Al-Hind Oud Koh Zen yesterday. My partner had a girls afternoon so I could swipe freely without complaints. There's quite a bit going on in this oil. The mentholic diesel scent becomes almost dry...that's the best word I can come up for it. Then under that is a very woody incense note. The ripe fruit takes a bit of a back seat. Happily wear this when feeling in the mood for a Cambodi.

Aside from the unbeatable Al Malek Al Hindi & Al Malek Al Kalakassi, my very favourite is Zuhayr & I own several from ASO.
‘Honeyed’ is a great description, it definitely has a mature resinous sweetness. It’s pretty much the perfect Hindi profile, the buttery animalic leather, amber, floral, sun baked hay dry down is heavenly.

It’s worth noting Zuhayr is from Bangladesh. The only other Bangladeshi oil I own is another from ASO called ‘Aseel’. I believe they are from a similar region (Chittagong Hill Tracts) distilled in 2017 & 2018, however Zuhayr is wild & Aseel is organic. Although Aseel is an masterclass in how to distill a traditional Hindi oil from organic wood, you can’t compare them as Zuhayr is too exquisite!

A note from the brand regarding Zuhayr - “The overall profile is reminiscent of the top-notch no-longer-available vintage Hindis, but whereas those oils could be flat, Zuhayr shimmers with life.”

Arakan Classic (Burmi-Oud)
This is a fresh oil and nice leathery note. This one I believe will age well. Love the dark notes...
It is ageing well already I reckon. That leathery note has come to the front a bit more than when I first received mine. A lovely incense note comes in the dry down. I have half a gram of Siberian musk in one bottle of Arakan Classic which is about two months away from me having my first smell test. I have another bottle of it as well ageing by itself but I'm considering putting in some brown ambergris and then eventually combining the two.

Nha trang oritsu

Just landed a few hours ago and still on the first swipe.

Initial impressions aren’t necessarily impressive. Way too much “basic fruity/slight leather” crassna going on here. Could easily be mistaken for a Thai or a Lao. Not discernibly nha trang or anything to tell you it’s from sinking bead scraps.

There’s some glimpses of the orris/floral note but not really enough to push the needle beyond the average crassna profile, which I find really uninteresting. Not “kynamic” in the slightest.

Bear in mind, these are just first impressions and perhaps things can change down the line, but it does mirror what @Castingshadows said about this oil as well.

Ill certainly revisit it in the future.
