mesoud Pursat Gold :
Typical Cambodi, where dried fruits lay on green jungle ground. Drydown soft & musky. It’s solid if you like that basic crassna profile.

mesoud Oud Said :
Interesting ! Earthy nuts, smoke & smooth leather. Really “masculine“ if you will.
Oud Said is very nice. I have this and another Indonesian gyrinops from Mesoud and I really enjoy them both. They’re so unique compared to the other ouds I have. Leathery, musky, earthy with just enough sweetness to balance everything. I really want to explore the type further.

Al Shareef's Modhesh is my most frequently swiped oil these days. It has very good projection and very tiny small swipes on the pulse points create a personal olfactory heaven around my head of Malaysian/ Indonesian tropical jungle with sweet dried fruits, oudhy oomph that's like fumigated incense smoke, aniseed, a rich earthy ambery warmness, licorice and sweet leather.
I have discovered the best way to enjoy a very complex oil like Modhesh is "the late evening, dim lights and my old favourite Hindi songs from Bollywood."
Wearing it outside is also great because no strong off-putting notes and a friend commented after 5 hours that I was wearing a sweet leather scent.

I swiped Burmi 79 before bed. I completely lost my sense of smell for a few days. It’s been slowly coming back so I swiped some before bed last night and my goodness the drydown is incredible.

I mean seriously this is one of the best drydowns of any oil I’ve ever smelled. Is that a bit of cream I’m smelling? Is that a tea note I’m picking up on?

Also wearing these SQ oils has made me realize that Oud Lab’s Lao Shan (aged thai) could have easily fit the aesthetic of an SQ oil. I love pulling this out and just smelling the cap. It’s a rich, chocolate liqueur aroma with honey and hints of cherry all against a backdrop of deeply fermented Thai ouddiness. I can see why these oils arent for everyone and I’ve learned that they smell better in the air than they do Upclose because the true beauty is the gift these oils give to those around us. Sadly many won’t appreciate this smell but I know I would. This sits at the top of Thai oils I’ve smelled along with my other favorite Tokusen Thai.

Ceylong - Fushigi

It's growing on me and opening up more. I get some of the blue floral top notes from Suriranka senkoh on top of an almost Vietnamese kind of base, instead of seaweed and ocean. Also reminds of my Royal guallam in that regard, yet minus the musky note. Quite a potent oil for me even from a tiny dot.

Fushigi is the Taiwan distiller right?

Yusa - pursat encense

The more I wear this the more I'm loving it and I already liked it a lot in the first place. It's got a light mix of berries with a more dominant roasted cacao and a little muskiness about it.

I got a sample of this when it was called "pursat cheroot" and I posted about it a few times... wondered why nobody else was chiming in - turns out it was released as "Pursat Encense". I get a kind of tobacco vibe from this and I feel like it would layer very nicely with tobacco and rose.

Yunnan from @Al Shareef Oudh

This is just a small residue from a sample I got long ago. Smells like high quality oud, but definitely showing the effects of the oxygen exposure since it was sitting as a residue in a sample vial for a long time. It's got that dignified aged oxidized oud scent in spades, to the point where it overwhelms the regional notes that I recall smelling when I first got it. reminding me a little bit of some SQ oils in that respect

Kanbojia Senkoh - Ensar Oud.

Opens with a real boozy, vaporous, airy, minty, bittersweet resinous note with tones of creamy chocolate with alcohol (reminds me of the aftertaste of baileys), black sour cherries, some sweetness in there too, then it develops and becomes more well rounded after 20-30 mins, and the resinous incense-y notes come out in spades, with some spiciness and a lovely kinamic, LITERAL, mouth numbing mintiness just upon smell. Bitter aloeswood notes with jungle earthy, greenery tones that is similar to kinam (in some ways, but you can tell its an agarwood note) and very pleasant, tarty, chocolate cake with sweet and mostly sour dark cherries, amaretto-like notes. Spiciness. This oud is quite "boozy" but also clean boozy if that makes sense, so multifaceted and complex. Very fresh minty, airy notes all throughout the mid notes, and very strong but done in such a great way, in a literal kinamic way... which I havent got before from this oil, but maybe its because I wasnt in the right frame of mind at the time, idk.

Lovely oud, sweet, bitter, sour, chocolatey, cherry fruitiness, very clean incense notes, and shares DNA with Chinese and Vietnamese ouds really closely, its fantastic. I am definitely either buying another 2 0.3gs of this and eventually a 2g bottle... there is more to discover from this.

Happy holidays everyone!!!

DRYDOWN: elegant woody (Cambodian and Vietnam feel), spicy, earthy, sweet red berry with sour cherry, some florals, some resin and hints of dark mint chocolate. With a bittersweet undertone, and kinda nutty.

Fushigi is the Taiwan distiller right?
Depends on who you ask. Fushigi.oud won't say it outright, and Ensar hasn't named any names but he has referred to Taiwanese distillers pretending to have Oriscent oils and insisting that they definitely don't. They have very similar style of oils and a couple of their oils smell like they might be the exact same batch as the Oriscent oils that Ensar has.

If you like the Oriscent style they are definitely worth buying from. Similar style and the quality is sometimes right on par with Oriscent. Hainan is almost indistinguishable from Royal Kinam 2.

I like this one. The opening is a bit spicy to me.

Guess what?
Its time for Kanbi Koh - The Oud Lab
Yes, yes & yes
It is what everyone before me said, from Marius to EjayB to @Mousse de Chene to @SamiterkiW & @Xerohome
Such a beautiful kinamic, honey, purple grapes, deep resinous and slightly cinnamon'ish oil. It is one of these oils that satisfy your nose & brain. It offers everything you need and more and you realise, its not about the region of the oil, its about the experience & the feelings you get. Top notch stuff and you will love it as a new gen or old school ouds lover.
The Oud Lab proving again that they offer beautiful oils that bridge the gap between new gen and old school and I enjoy their aesthetic so far.

I immediately had 2 oils swimming around in my brain when I smelled it: Emperor Of Kedah/Siam & Purple Malay
I went and grabbed my emp kedah bottle to have the clear comparison and not rely on my memories. Yes they are very similar say 70-85% similarity but emp kedah is more bright ethereal energetic kinamic in the top notes while Kanbi Koh is more deep resinous and slightly darker in aroma.
From memory, purple malay is more different and maybe only 50% similar due to the purple and resinous facets. But purple malay is more woody and has a leathery touch that is absent or way more smooth and rounded up in Kanbi Koh.

Ps. I only have a sample and it is super thick inside the vial and smells a bit like it had a bit of oxidation going on. But it was more than enough to fall in love with the oil. A fresh bottle will smell even better 🤯

This oil and Emperor of Kedah(V2 in my case) are two oils that remind me I need to sample before buying.

I also noticed that these oils have a very similar profile. Despite everyone else’s love for these oils, I really just can’t get into them.

On a side note, I have been trying to figure out if EOK V1 and V2 have the same profile, and this tells me that they are similar. I also remember them being around 80% the same.

BTW I also had a sample but I don’t think the sample was that old. It was also very thick, and I think this is just the texture of this particular oil. As for the oxidized scent, that might just be part of the oil. I don’t think my sample was oxidized but if you smelled it and said it smells oxidized I would know what you meant.

What is the Purple Malay oil you’re talking about? There are lots of oils named similar to this.

Ohh these purple resinous malays are the favorites of almost every oud head. What a pitty that you didnt enjoy Kanbi Koh and Emp Kedah v2. These are really really good presentations of this beloved profile.

Purple Malay is a SQ Oil that was sold by Sulaym. A malay from the 90s that has these beautiful purple floral facets but it is powdery and woody in comparison to the other 2 you mentioned. It is my favorite SQ Oil after Oud Royale 82 from the Sultans vault.

It has similarities to other sq oils due to the distillation method maybe & the aging but also has vibrant top notes that cover the similarities to these purple malay oils of recent years.

And yes emp kedah v2 is very similar to v1. The differences are only noticeable in direct comparison side by side. V1 being more kinamic & ethereal in the top notes
