Meghalaya SQ

Well rounded and smooth, aged no doubt.
Not overly anything, just core Hindi of the woody sort, subdued fruits, faint florals, oudiness, resin, wood, nuts, a touch of cocoa, and a hint of tobacco.

When I was new to oud I had this notion of finding the Holy Grail of Hindi oud. I have come to realize that it was a futile search. There are many regions of Hindi Oud, and countless styles of distillation, and the use of different grades of wood, and wood of varying aromatic strengths, newly distilled, aged oils, new gen, and barnys. I think it is better to have a variety, than search for one Holy Grail.

Meghalaya SQ is solid! and it would be a nice addition to any collection.

Meanwhile I’m rocking! Qandahaar 2.1 right now as well. The fecal barny kick is becoming more appealing to me, amped up to the max without going beyond my threshold, but I am equally impressed by it’s oudiness, thinking it was distilled from high grade chips, but apparently it’s the high oil content wood that makes the difference. This oud is certainly no lightweight IMO, worthy to enjoy now, and more and more as it continues to age, but you have to be willing to “ride the white horse”🤣 (that’s what Russian Adam told me a long time ago😊)

Qandahaar 2.1 is no joke. Opening is piercing yellow Hindi. Dry down is great.

What are the best Hindis you recommend

@mesOUD soul of India, and I haven't even smelled it yet. Bound to be a legend though.

Your question reminds me that I need to approach my Hindi samples with a little bit more focus because I still haven't really sorted those out in my mind.

🌞Oud Safeer🌞 - An Najwa

Hindi Sun King.
I got this a couple of months ago and I guess I wasn’t ready for it until now because today it is hitting so perfectly. I put some on around noon and at 9:30 pm I was still getting wafts of ultra woody depth just suddenly appearing out of nowhere. It was so nice I had to reapply some just now.
It comes on bone dry and austere (almost painfully so), sunbaked woodchips, then a bit of Cambodi sourness hiding an almost sweet tamarind note and fine peppercorns veering right back into that hot dry woody note that my favorite Hindi ouds have. The dry down is a softened rich woodiness that reminds of the sandalwood of my dreams. I‘m picking up more of that sour, sweet contrast tonight, more than ever before. So much so that it’s leading me to expect it to unfold like a Crassna but it drags me right back to those peppery dry woods and i can pick out how this evolves into the softened version of these same notes in the drydown. If there are barn notes here either I can’t smell them or they’ve been completely blasted by the little sun furnace that hides in the heart of this. Right when it starts to seem unbalanced by the heat the tamarind sour/sweet opens the door onto a short hallway of oudy resin and then it’s back out into the sun. I can’t imagine what an ultra low dose of musk or ambergris would do to this but I’d love to find out. I’ve tried to pair it with different rose oils and it either roasted them into oblivion with it’s heat or they fouled it and brought in fecal notes that are absolutely not there when it’s worn alone.

Fantastic description!

Tiger King (the OG) - @RisingPhoenix

I just got in some Tiger King II, so I figured I needed to get reacquainted with this beast.

I was heating purple kyara earlier this afternoon, so I don't know if I broke my nose or what but this is hitting exactly like that kyara. Down to the "odd smell" that I was finding in the kyara. Not a bad smell, just a smell I can't put my finger on.

I vaguely remember this smell from the last time a wore this oud. But it's been a couple years. I think it’s what JK calls the jack fruit note in the description.

Resinous flowers, a tinge of Malay purple, a touch of fleshy fruit, and more resin. And it hits like a beast.

This was one of the first ouds I tried when I started, and after trying so many ouds from so many places it amazes me to realize that I started at the pinnacle of top tier oud.

EO Hainan 2005 V1 - always a humbling experience swiping this oil. In my opinion, it is one of the best Chinese oils Ensar has ever offered. Possibly the most complex oud oil I tried. It's so multifaceted, and the way it changes from top to mid and base is quite an experience. An oil that has it all: ambergris, musk, zesty oranges, spices, herbs, tobacco, deep woods, sweet facets, petrichor, etc. I love the musky quality in here. It's not overpowering, nor does it last long, but it is so enticing. The final dry-down smells of clean and deep wood with powdery vanilla facets and flecks of green.

I'm curious how the latest H 2005 is in comparison. And now I'm kinda curious on some older Chinese oils from EO that followed this aesthetic like Chinese Exclusive and China Sayang.

I'll add some Dokusan to the mix later this evening.

that nose echo olfactory hallucination thing is def a thing.

ive heated kyara many times and then swiped an oil sometime later and swore the oil was hitting like kyara or having those notes. but then I swiped the oil again another time and it did not, as it had not previously either.

happened to me many times with many oils, it's such an odd phenomenon, and could be what you are experiencing.

either way, sounds like a great time and great oil 🙂

Beautiful
I can relate the crassna part
I wore two-three big swipes yesterday
After some time i was confused if it was Oud Safeer or a crassna oud oil,
I got that sweet and sour crassna vibe throughout the day

It definitely makes sense. Something being so intense it imprints on your olfactory memory and distorts your sense of smell for awhile.

The weird part was I burned some Vietnamese chips right after the kyara and they smelled normal.

I'll have to wear the Tiger King again in a couple days with a fresh nose to compare the experiences. Especially since the point of wearing it last night was to have it fresh in my memory to compare with TK2

Harimau - @YusaAromatics

This one is great. I wore this a week or two ago and didn't think much of it. Nothing bad, just didn't make an impression. Must have been my mood or something because it's hitting all the right notes tonight.

Deep, dark, tobacco, sweet earth, and incense. A light smokiness throughout. When it started drying a sort of spiciness came out that reminded me of Sichuan pepper for a minute, then moved into the pepper note often found in the retrohale of a strong Nicaraguan cigar. And through all this something animalic kept coming and going.

Ensar Borneo Bliss Abyss - Smells very ancient, camphorous, and woody. I was hoping it would be closer to Borneo 3000 and while it does have a smoky-floral likeness, it's missing the perfumey berries. What I like about BBA is that I don't have anything like it in my collection. There's zero barn, no chocolate, just earth, clay, incense.
