Saktara II by Al Hashimi. Whoa, this is what I have known as oud! To explain grosso modo: cow pat. Now, of course you get delicious chocolate, a bit of coffee, really pleasant incense notes of resinous smoke, the interior of a leather bag, and a mouth-watering saffron-esque hay note. It's ultra potent, just the way I like, and long lasting. Although more expensive that Oud Lab's Garo Jing and Habzoud's Al Hareer, it's stronger, deeper, and more complex. It's been a while, but I had flashbacks to Oudimentary's Super Assam which I used to immensely enjoy.

@Margon sent me a pretty interesting oud along with the sandalwood. Very dark, phenolic oil, almost smoky, has some of the same presence (not aroma) as the fraterworks tobacco absolute - thick, dark, smokey, slightly tarry-creosote note. It also has an almost curry- or fenugreek-like facet suspended in the middle that comes into focus with a bigger whiff - a new one for me. Saturated bittersweet heated resin aroma once it settles...

Reminds me of Hiramau in terms of the dark / phenolic tone but clearly a different origin oil. I am waiting to confirm details but I believe this is Aceh oil. I can smell hints of other aceh oils I have smelled in the past - but the dark incense quality sets it apart. In fact my daughter who is sitting across the room from me looked up and asked if I had lit some incense about 5 minutes after i had applied a swipe. I am looking forward to learning / confirming the details of this oil's origin and production methods. The photo is worthless I admit.

Update -found the info - this is from induced agarwood. 100 year old tree with zero infection was treated with natural inoculant (fungus spores and molasses) and later harvested after resin forms.

Question for you all: is this an Oud OIL or an Attar/Perfume? It came in a wild Oud sampler yet on his website I can only see a spray by the same name.

Very bright menthol / camphor hit that fades somewhat faster than other funkier oils. There is this tiny note of diesel? Petrol? I don’t have the right words to choose from - a subtle element and only at first.

Fades into a cedar-like spice and some hints of sweetness remain.

Doesn’t seem to change as dramatically as some aged Cambodians and other oils, yet still interesting in the dry down.

I’ve taken to swiping on my wrist before bed to sometimes wake up to a nice whiff … in smaller dabs I can barely smell this in the AM - it does seem less persistent than others or maybe im just going numb from sensory overload 🙂

Mai Kritsana - Habzoud. Really lovely tobacco and whisky notes. I've just come back from a multiday hike in Fiordland national park, New Zealand. I spent the entire time Oud free instead prefering to take the opportunity to have a break and simply smell deep wet forest. And yet....on the last day I was getting strong Oud associated scents coming to me. There are no Aquilaria in NZ but something was triggering it for me. Was quite amazing.

Trying some Tawny Apple from AromaSublime this afternoon. Has what I would say a typical fresh cut wood or "carpenter's shop" smell that manyy of AS oils have. It's very clean and fresh smelling with a bit of an ethereal fruitiness akin to apple peels. The woodiness has a vaporous quality to it without being minty or camphoraceous.

Ensar Kanbojia Senkoh: There's lots of Ceylon cinnamon, and maybe something savory which to my mind is coming up as steamed edamame. It's really savory, musky.

Are a lot of Ensar oils "old" smelling? Oud Extraordinaire, Borneo 3000, Borneo Bliss Abyss and this one all have a kind of dusty, powdery vibe to them.
