Borneo Kita from @Oudique presenting novel top notes - oud always surprises it seems! Hard to describe what I am smelling in the top notes but at the moment it's reminding me of waxing cross country skis in my childhood, some kind of mineral/resin combination. Has a rich sweet oudy base, a vaguely patchouli-adjacent tea leafy complexity, very light peanut note, and (again) I was most struck by an unusual savory and mineral facet in the top - a bit of edge before the oil settles into that more familiar delicious sweet Borneo oud base. Very interesting oil it's going to take me a couple of more wears to really understand its development and performance, but I wanted to share something today.

I do like this one a lot. Definitely has savoury notes.

Kanbojia Senkoh by EO

A rich, musty, green, "oily", but evidently bitter Cambodie (he writes it as Kambodie). Not a fan, mostly due to the "oily" and bitter taste. The oiliness subsides in the dry-down but the bitter taste persists. It's like an over-steeped black tea leaves, high tannins. I don't like it in my oud but might work in an oud perfume.

Sounds like a wild Cambodian. I typically don't like Cambodian oud all that much, but that sounds really unique.

Could you describe what you mean by "oily"?

Vathimi Raja - @Al Shareef Oudh

I absolutely did not expect how high pitched the top notes of this would be based on the color of the oil. Even through the cap it smelled like it'd be on the funkier side of oud, but as soon as I smelled the dip stick I immediately seen a crystal clear blue ocean. Yes, I seen the Silani blue from the dip stick.

The oil starts kind of quiet and ethereal, but after warming up on the skin for a minute it starts singing like a choir.

It has everything you'd want from a Silani: oceanic (without salt), mangoes, flowers, and oud resin. But what struck me was this sense of familiarity that brought with it an olfactory induced nostalgia. Suddenly I was a kid again, playing in a sprinkler on a hot summer day. The smell of garden hose water dispersed in the air, grass and flowers kicked up from kids playing, a tray of fruit and pouches of capri suns on the picnic table, and not a care in the world.

A really wild experience. I can't wait to try the wood used in the distillation that came with it!

Have you ever heated oil in the pan and then left it to cool down. It smelled like that a little, briefly in the first 5 min.

It's mostly sesame seed oil though. Wearing Kanbojia again to see if my impression of it changes. It's a high quality oud oil, nonetheless. Only need a compatible nose to appreciate it.

Fragrant Harbour (2011) - Yusa
This smells a bit different every time I swipe it.
Beautiful mindbuzzing yellow floral, honey & kinamic aroma with a smooth milky drydown.

Dongguan (20008) - Yusa
This one is focused more on the green kinamic profile. Watermelon rinds, guava & honey with wafts of medicinal herbs.
I got a unique violet piercing aroma that is described as violet lipstick & I can definitely see that 💄

Grandawood Warming Sun - have to say this is some interesting stuff - very potent, wild medicinal top notes in addition to the bright tangy distilled sinensis top notes and long sparkling scintillating wood tail. Good stuff for the price, I think...? Wonder what others think?
I'm happy to see this, I've been considering placing an order with them. Would you recommend them for a beginner? Or, do you have others you would recommend? I'm looking for those priced on the lower end if possible and would greatly appreciate your recommendations and time!

Thank you so much!

I think a beginner would find it strange - it's a little bit medicinal and odd smelling, but if you were already comfortable with medicinal and odd smelling oils then it has some good qualities (as described in that post you referenced). This is probably the only oil from them that I really felt was interesting. I'm not crazy about that source at this point. They have a CO2 extracted oil called triple happiness that I used to think was decent but in light of the other sinensis oils I have smelled I can't recommend it.

@YusaAromatics dongguan 2008 just swiped. This brings some Lao ouds to mind - on the sweet and sour side, a nice toasted-sugar note, seems like a simple profile on first impression... not quite pursat simple but with a similar focused clear sweet character. No funk, smoke, cheese, swamp, etc. - seems like a clean new gen style extraction. Will share more thoughts as I get to know it better.

@YusaAromatics hirta Surutan Malaysia 2025 - first impression, a tiny dab - lovely soft pepper/spice cloud, quite cozy smelling, a tang I associate with some old green indo gaharus, resinous depths. Good stuff. Need more swipes and time to appreciate its full profile. I think hirta may be one of my preferred species... need to smell a few more but there is something to the pepperiness of this that reminds me of this one wood that I got from yamada matsu in the early 2000's. I got a little sample of one of their B grade woods and though it was low in resin and consistency (thus "b" grade) the aroma is one of the nicest I've ever smelled in any wood. Spicy, peppery, exotic, clean. This reminds me of it a bit, some shared attributes. Nice smells, I would love to have a full bottle of oil with this kind of profile.

One of the best malay oud oil. SQ signature is obvious, the depth is present, and the transitions are smooth.
Great oil!
Isn't that one just killer? It's got something special going on for sure. It's like oud inside of oud.

Tabeer Oud Sultan Altamash
(Karbi Anglong)

Berries, prunes, tobacco, chocolate, resin, and a hint of caramel.
Tamed by age it is not loud, but it glows constantly with aroma.
Towards dry down the leathery barn is more apparent, along with the oudy woody, hay, and pollen, and hours later you can still smell it.

So far, I’ve tried two Karbi Anglong oils, they have a flavor of their own, and I like it👌

Another Tabeer offering (via private sale)
Hindi No. 1, a clean distill from Assam oudh.
No top note blast, so I won’t call it new gen, but it is clean as in no soak or limited soak.
Not much progression either, but somehow brother Umair captured the beauty from the oudh, a sweet agallocha with jasmine floating on top and wood supporting the bottom. I like to close my eyes, sniff the swipe, and get lost in the beauty bliss. Instant love🤪
