Have you ever heated oil in the pan and then left it to cool down. It smelled like that a little, briefly in the first 5 min.

It's mostly sesame seed oil though. Wearing Kanbojia again to see if my impression of it changes. It's a high quality oud oil, nonetheless. Only need a compatible nose to appreciate it.

Gotcha, that doesn't sound very appealing. I was hoping you meant like crude oil or something 😅

Habzoud Mamluk

Time to see how it is evolving.

It opens with fruity candy and resin on mineral ice, we’re talking orange citrus with a touch of banana. There’s also a hint of a rounded musty musk.

Florals also presents themselves, like a blend of sambac-freesia-honeysuckle.

The fruity floral is persistent, while it develops a little bitterness, a little lemon, a touch of pepper, and a Sabah oud vibe.

Further…..the Malay shows itself with cola, tamarind, and shades of purple which were golden at the start of the swipe.

Finally…..a chip on low heat aroma.

Got a few samples from Broadlink. I can almost remember who it was who first brought them to the attention of the forum but I'm not sure. Well done whoever you were. Well worth sampling if you have a need for plantation sinensis.

That's great! I've been keen to hear your impressions on these as they have a lot on offer. My memory say's originally it was @The Scent Guru who spoke about them and then it was myself who suggested them to you when you were looking for some cheaper bulk ouds for your blends.

There you go that's what I was remembering but I didn't want to insult somebody by thanking the wrong person! As far as I am concerned good workhorse plantation oil from trees that are inoculated responsibly is a priceless basic perfume building block. Not a substitute for the good stuff… just good in its own right. "No perfume without jasmine" is an axiom I have heard repeated... I am starting to feel the same about oud. Oud can bring delicate flowers, ferment, ambergris effects, spice, animalic, mushroom, soil, water, microbes, mineral... how do you even say what oud is? Oud encompasses all!

That's excellent. I'll have to go back and look at what they have again myself now. It was originally the shipping on top which is what prevented me from going ahead with a purchase. Let's see if I can convince myself to get past it. Oud DOES encompass all! We really need to get a line of Ouddict apparel happening with all the awesome quotes members come out with printed lol.

Testing the broadlink CK CO2 oils by heating them up on a mica sheet. They were very very inexpensive. Neither of these are anything that anybody would really want to smell like in themselves, so I've been trying to figure out what they're useful for.

So, a drop on a piece of mica and the piece of mica goes on the subitism... tested this way N201 is pretty stinky - odd salivary honey notes, animalic in that sense. I would be embarrassed and have to explain what the heck was going on if somebody walked into my house and it smelled like that I think.

K01 also has the salivary notes but combined with woody and cedar elements that make it a bit more appealing and mixed with a little bit of patchouly or borneol it could be quite nice in incense, that animalic quality would be no problem at all. I was hoping these would smell 100% good on the burner like some do but in that respect they are not great. once the initial animalic notes dissipate there are some pleasant facets being radiated for sure.

So the main use of these seems to be as a mildly animalic fixative. Perhaps useful in some plant-based ambergris replacer type material?

Purple dervish by Ensar for the evening...not sure if this was a crassna or a co-distillation but I get similarities to oud Yusuf og and something reminds me of oud Yaqoubs dry down. One thing is for sure, this has more woody nuances to it.
Days when Ensar actually came up with real gems at affordable prices.

Just received my @Tabeer_Oud order. Sultan Altamash is heavenly! It smells So addictive! I think this oil holds the power to turn me into a hindi oud lover. Gosh, I don't want to stop sniffing this ever! Love at first sniff!!!!

Also, I want to take a moment to appreciate how GORGEOUS Kyara Classique is! Sniffing this brings me the same joy as drinking a mildly sweet, slightly camphorous cold black tea after an afternoon spent in fabric shopping in the Mangaldas market of South Bombay. Bliss!

How and why did I not discover @Tabeer_Oud before!!!!

I have an unnamed sample here from AlHind Oud, 100% a Hindi but that's all I can guess about it. What I will say is this is VERY clean. Can an oud be barnyard and yet NOT have baryard? This is what I'm getting. Also, it's extremely addicting. It was bringing in an olfactory memory of something for me which took a good minute to figure out. To me it has these burnt honey notes to it. Ages ago I used to take a dietary supplement called Maca root powder. That's what this Hindi smells like. This is the Hindi for me. Can't wait to find out more about it.

OudSG Sumbawa 2022
Still too inexperienced to know what I'm smelling but wow is it addictive. Started a ghostly green, slightly bitter citrus rind, and has now transitioned to a viscous spice mixture, cola-like but refreshing.
Edit: late transition to an amazing tobacco note. A nicely stored cigar leaf.
