Thuraya- AlShareef Oudh

It’s a reddish brown Oud. Very opulent and regal. It has a luxurious, nutty, medicinal, varnish, wood, coconut, and “cleaned glass” scent. I immediately thought it was Indonesian in source. But checked their site and it was from Malaysia. Ok so I was close. Sillage and projection are strong. A little bit goes a long way - well I was forced to as it was a sample. But it was heavenly.
When you get the good stuff, a little does go a long way,

So refreshing! What a pleasant blast of fresh fruit... I was scared to spend this much, but have been rewarded and this has moved into my Top Shelf collection as a very bright, easy to enjoy and share aroma!
I guarantee my wife will love this one on me, and won't use her usual terms to describe it when I ask her for her opinion (I get a lot of "old books", "furniture" comments from her on other Ouds, as I've shared).
The sillage is great... I'm surrounded by a cloud here. Thank you @YusaAromatics for sharing this with the world.
I imagine it will not be around much longer?

Owari gave a very low yield, it makes me happy each time i swipe it ! Have lots of fun brother Steve!!!

Oudique chang mai.
Bummed this one sold out during the sale before I got through my sample. Really enjoying it especially on hot days. Easy going and a slightly different take on a "fruity" oud. I get the salt. Lasts surprisingly most of the day, simmering in the background.

See that saturated, muddy soil and wet, vegetal detritus in the background? Imperial Maroke by Sulaym smells like running full speed and faceplanting directly into the damp and musty earth. I am starting to think I may have jumped down the oud rabbit hole too quickly -- as if I had any ability to resist its gravitic pull... pshh. Anyway, if I am to be perfectly honest, Imperial Maroke is decidedly NOT my cup of tea. The smell of mud is too intense for me, and I tend to gravitate toward the ethereal, airy, and camphoric ouds. One positive thing I can immediately discern is that Imperial Maroke is highly medicinal. The calmative, restorative effect it has on me is immediate and deep. Almost opioid-like. This resin must have come from a tree that was under immense threat, and secreted the dankest ooze it could to fight off infection.

Now that’s a SWIPE!

Remember the first impressions etc. It may just become your favourite. 😉

Hold onto it and revisit periodically, your tastes will likely change and fluctuate and/or you'll start to appreciate that style of oud.

Wonderful observations but I'd go for a smaller amount (maybe that's just me), maybe a couple of drops, just touching the tip of the applicator stick to your wrists. But you have captured the aura of the scent, with a wonderful background picture to with it!

As @Olfactory Nomad and @theaphilosophia have already mentioned, keep it around. Maroke was the least favorite region of mine, and it was a profile I just couldn't understand but slowly I started craving it, and reaching for it more and more often. One of the aspects I appreciate about this region is how it captures the rainforest, an imaginary vision of the rainforest because I've not been to any such place, and where I live in the dead of winter being able to wear this and enjoy an atmosphere unlike anything which nature can afford me at that moment is precious.

You nailed it deciphering the resinous note, and let me warn you, once you start craving that resinous note, with the wisps of incense smoke 🤤 you'll be thinking about Maroke all the time!

Mate, you should come for a visit to me here in Australia. I can definitely show you some rainforest. Some of the oldest in the world to be exact.

sorry to hear that it wasn't for you, but it would make a lovely gift to someone who likes earthy scent, no?

I haven't found an oud that is narcotic-inducing. I wish I would. Any suggestions?

I found them (the commercial lineup ) to be flat, without character. They all were similar. All I got was a tea note from every single one of them. Maybe I bought the wrong line up. But I didn’t enjoy unfortunately.
Yuzhi was kind of similar - every oil was fundamentally the same in some way, you can feel that common plantation wood theme strong throughout. to my nose there were just varying levels of scent saturation, and variations in the intensity, type, and prominence of accessory notes. yuzhi has a couple of barnyard oils that to my nose smell like they were really skillfully soaked/fermented. Pretty surprising to me for a plantation oil, but I'm still learning.
