Laos Pusong Valley Oud from Gafur.ae arrived today. It's a light-medium amber color, and has a noticeably lower viscosity than the other two oils I own. On skin it become a completely transparent yellow sheen. On the nose, it's pretty flat. No effervescent qualities, just a light leather, honey, grasses, bread, and a tinge of fruit. Scent stays very close to the skin, the top-note aromatics seem muted, or perhaps even trapped in the oil. Nothing bubbles its way to the surface except a few fleeting wisps. All in all, a fairly boring and unspectacular oud.

The cheap label-maker sticker also annoys me. Why not just make it wrap all the way around the bottle so that the edges don't keep peeling up? Considering that it was only $190 for 2.5g, I suppose I shouldn't really complain... still, it's the small attentions to detail that can really take a product to the next level.

For my next oud purchase, I want to make up for this lackluster experience. I want an oil with PIERCING high notes, something that stings the nostrils and stirs the mind -- any recommendations for something that fits the bill are appreciated!
A couple oils came to mind,

Nose numbing, mind buzzing experience. Floral sweet greens with hints of jasmine, white lotus and incense smoke. Drying down to rich berries, pink pepper and red florals. This oil will change and deepen with time too.
PM me, payment can be directly via wise, PayPal or website link
Another is mesOud's TrangQuil(Nha Trang Distillation) though the distillation is still on going

And Malinua Maliki from HabzOud

All seem like they fit the bill for what you're looking for!

That's a shame! I really like this oil. Sure, I have more interesting ones but at the price, it's fun for a fruity oud. Also, it performs well for me. Projects good and last a long time. Around 8 hours later, I could smell a kind of musky-sweet aura around my body when I changed climates from outdoors to indoors. For reference, I do 2 swipes of this oil.

Tonight Mai Kritsana from Habzoud. This one is tremendous. Really nice incense with a nectar-like quality.

5% "economy lao" from Olefaktory diluted in everclear about a year out from mixing. Has changed gradually - lost some of the odd fresh pungent notes, smells waxier somehow. Overall impression is the same as for all my budget plantation crassna oils: meh.

Habzoud - Jayapura. I've got a healthy swipe on the inside collar of both sides of my winter wool jacket. Smells incredible. Doesn't look the best unfortunately. Kinda looks as though I've been cleaning the wax out of my ears and wiping it on my jacket. Gross. My wife has already noticed and told me to wash it but I'm like it smells to good to wash!

Pure Surat Thani Oud - Majid Iterji

Dark and thick South Thai Oud oil. Deeply woody, and resinous. Medicinal without the nuttiness that usually accompanies varnishy or medicinal smelling tops.

I don't want to say which Ouds because it's a me thing and I am hyper sensitive. But today's Oud's give me a sore throat, almost 3 minutes after swiping. I have reactions all the time. I think I'm hyper sensitive and I don't know what it is. Just certain ouds maybe as many as 1 in 8... My eyes are affected too. As soon as I wipe off the oil, the sore throat recedes. My fix is to use these oils on a warmer and enjoy them that way. I need to search for easy agarwood sticks on the forum. If there is such a thing.

I get it. Oud makes my skin itchy for about a day so I’ve taken to wearing oil on shirt cuffs mostly in the winter when wearing long sleeves. But I’ve mostly stuck to incense once it began.

Zamrad 2 @Habz786 is very nice - enjoying this on a balmy summer evening.

I can somehow relate to your allergic reactions.

A long time ago, a very beautiful attar I bought from someone outside of this forum gave me headache and nasal congestion. But because it’s not a single-ingredient oil, I still tried on an oud-only oil. No reaction. So, it could be one of the other attar ingredients .., but I could not tell which one.

Now, I wonder if there’s only a particular oud source tree that can trigger allergic reactions? I still don’t know what it is but I’m just glad that I am ok with whatever oud is currently in my collection.

Vintage Viet Royale @AlHind Oud

I've been out of town for the past week, and left all my aromatics at home, so my first oud back needed to be something epic and this does not disappoint.

When I put it on and took that first hit, my brain lit up with dopamine and I just let out a loud "mhhhhhhhh".

My 4 year old asked me what I was eating, thinking I was eating candy or something behind her back 😅

Firdous Royale is tip tip top quality oud my friends. I try to keep my reviews relatively descriptive but in this case I feel strongly about the exceptional quality so again: among the finest ouds I have smelled based on my tastes.

Such an unbelievably nice rich robust top note, robust to the ideal degree - engaging slight phenolic opening, beautiful sweet saturated and quintessentially oudy. Sophisticated suave dry balanced woody heart, like wood cologne; and this does the same crazy twist as the Firdous 1. At the beginning I experience rich "oudiness per se". By the end it has me thinking of a specific geographic region in this case there's some molecule in common with some of the finer Malinau oils I have smelled.
As I said in the past this is the kind of oud that I assumed for many years I would never smell in my lifetime - painstakingly distilled single batch from high end wood made by a skilled distiller doing everything in their power to get the most out of the wood.

This is a case too where the name is spot-on for the sequel- it really is like a royal return of the original Firdous, which honestly was already everything I seek in oud.

I will nurse the heck out of this precious sample, thanks @AlHind Oud!

Thanks for the review! Your feedback on Firdous 1 truly inspired me to distill the Firdous Royale, and I’m glad it was successful as well.
