Making my way through a handful of little samples sent to me from brother @SamiterkiW simply for the love of sharing a good thing. Today I have tried one called Myanmod. Very pale yellow in colour, it opens with mild sweet paint fumes into something delicate and light. So far though, yesterday's sample is a huge winner for me. Named Siamlou this Thai oil is out of this world. Is it wild mate? It opens as a mild, almost timid although very recognisable Thai with diesel and fruit but then bursts forth with this incredible perfume which immediately brings to mind an aged Pursat. From there it's a ride that lasts all day beautifully, reaching that sweet piecing vanilla note that we all crave. I heated some CK in the evening with a fresh dot of this and the resulting layers of scent throughout my apartment was incredible. I need more of this.🤤🤤
I have a bunch of these waiting for me to explore!!!

Merauke Qadeem-Oudique

Marokes typically are described as jungle-like and there certainly is that in Merauke Qadeem. You get dirt, petrichor, and heavy wood all in the front. However, what stands out to me for this one is a very strong smoke that, in tandem with all those prior notes, reminds me of a hot coals that have just been put out. Over time I get more smoke and the oud starts to smell salty. It is like going back in time where I am able to experience what those hot coals were used for. Salted meat barbequed on a spit and bathed in smoke. This is a very brash oud that despite being very dark and smoky I am absolutely enjoying in the heat of summer.
This is great writeup - I got a lot of similar notes to you, but I think you felt the smoke more than I did. Really interesting to see how different people react to this one!

Surrat Thani - Oud Ladawwan

This has a light brown color. It opens with a nutty aroma followed by a sweet woody note. It smells like honey. It becomes creamy as It time goes on and reveals some dried fruit undertones. Very relaxing and beautiful.

I have a darker Surrat Thani that smells like a Cambodi. I prefer this one over that.

Borneo Kita - Oudique

I didn’t know I had this sample and I almost tossed it out by mistake! It was hiding at the bottom of one of those pouches they send with the oils. 😁

Lush, green jungle opening with a nice wisp of mint. Then comes a gentle sweetness with subtle notes of tropical fruit.

This would make a great value play and/or a more affordable daily driver for people who like the high-end Malaysian and Indonesian oils.

This started as a sample for me and turned into a big bottle for the reasons you described. Looks like they are down to a small small remaining amount:

I have a sample of the latest outrageous oud from @mesOUD - trangquil. just the first investigatory sniffs here… the first thing I will say is it is has all the hallmarks of a mesoud crassna - I can see its shared DNA with Soul of Laos and Viet King. It has similar rich engaging top notes, an almost medicinal facet that reminds me of one of his oud-rose codistillations. Very rich oud!

I have too many other competing aromas for me to say more than that right now, just sniffing from the bottle and applied the residue on the threads. The shared characteristics with those other two oils are quite evident I think, and the three of them together make a really fascinating set.

Malinau Absolut by Faizal Privée
I like his description: Opens with mint and honey, eases into creamy florals, and settles into soft ambered woods.
Yep!
I want to visit this part of the world. And Malaysia… crazy how these oils are changing my life.

It reminds me of Borneo 3000 but better
I'm glad to hear it, I like that style of oud. I liked the OG Borneo 3000 especially its opening and heart; I did not like its skin scent, which tended towards cat spit to my nose... that's a pretty critical part of the profile so I was never 100% crazy about that one even though it's a minor part of the experience

That's funny.
I was wearing a Malinau yesterday and while I don't pick up on it the wife was complaining about a sweaty smell towards the drydown 🤭

In the mood for some woody Borneo oils.

Oriscent Borneo Diesel
EO Kinamantan

Both are very woody oils, no florals, no berries, no honey, with most focus on the wood and the incense-like smoke.

Kinamantan is green kinamic incense in the veins of Port Moresby but with warm, dusty-dry wood sprinkled with vanilla powder. Makes me think of an antique wooden box.

Diesel smells like you'd take those Malinau red berries and vape them into Oriscent style fumes, and then loads of dry and deep ancient smelling wood.

mesOUD Havva
First, I must say, if there were an industry award for "best presentation," my vote would definitely be for mesOUD. Mehmet really makes every item into a work of art, from the oil, to the packaging, and even the certificate of authenticity which he includes as well.

I would describe Havva as being powerful, yet gentle. This oil wears smooth yet it is no slouch in terms of longevity. I most definitely get the references to tropical fruits and oceanic aspects as well. In fact, I mentioned to Mehmet that this oil immediately brought me back to a time as a child living on O'ahu. A time which I have many fond memories of.

I will surely treasure this oil and use it very sparingly. Part of me wants to order more than the .25gr I have, yet I am excited to experience more of Mehmet's distillations, so I may need to refrain.

As I had mentioned longevity earlier, I have a tiny dab on a test strip from around 24 hours ago, and the woody incense dry-down is wonderful and still very strong. I love everything about this oil.

Thank you again Mehmet @mesOUD

First Batch old Pure Kalamentan Pontianak Hattab Oud Oil - Trade Oud

The name is a mouthful. I decided to give this oil another shot after reading a follow up comment by @mesOUD

I’m getting smokey, woody, honey, maple syrup, butter, and burnt sugar notes. It’s different than all other ouds. It’s got a unique scent profile that’s kind of akin to leather, dried raisins, and fig newtons or any dried fruit for that matter. Really enjoyable this time around and the dry down is superb.
I'm trying another pontianak oil now and same ballpark. Super sweet opening that twists and turns. I get this boozey marzipan pastry thing going that morphs into an herbaceous citrus oolong. Wild.

Leyte Reverie - Alhind Oud

This one is a little hard to describe. To me it has a cool mintiness, dark yet bright and resinous woods at the same time, with clean musky florals, a touch of vanilla and citrus maybe?

It seems to share some DNA in the opening to Firdous 1. Distiller’s signature? Beautiful stuff
