Habzoud - Zamarad 2

Just killed off the rest of this bottle. Such a beauty with green notes such as green apple, banana, and avocado. And tea notes like matcha. Very calming and meditative qualities. Looking forward to getting Zamarad 3 soon.
I'm actually wearing it right now as well. Definitely has those tea notes to it. Keen to hear your thoughts on Z3.

Santal and Oud - Merauke (sample)

I applied this thick dark Oud on my left hand and it opens with slightly medicinal, earthy, and airy notes. The heart smells like button mushrooms with woody and muddyness about it. The heart is dense coffee and pepper. The pepper intensifies with the dry down.

Very different to the scents that I’m used to and I like that. Discovering new varieties is why I like to try new things all the time. It’s important to keep an open mind. Do I like it? I’m not sure. There are other Meraukis that appeal to me more. But I’ll definitely revisit this again.

EO Oud Extraordinaire

Not bad…. This sample is labeled 2022. I’ve seen bottles labeled 2018, 2019… anyone know if they differ?

I’d say for those on a budget this would be a decent option to get started with something that won’t scare others away.
That’s the super thick sweet and jammy one. Right? That was the thickest one I came across before I found a Thai variety that was nearly 40 years old.

Santal and Oud - Sumatra, Barrison Hills (sample)

This is a dark brown Oud on my right arm that opens with medicinal and nutty notes. It’s very clean, mineraly, and green. It has that sparkling element to it. I’m beginning to think that most unsoaked ouds tend to lean towards starting off medicinal/antispetic. It’s not an undesired trait for me. I actually like it and it contrasts beautifully against the more animalic, deep, refined ouds that I’m used to. As it dries down there’s a sweetness that intensifies and woodyness that starts reveal its head. All of these unsoaked ouds have an arguably stronger sillage and projection in my view. Maybe because I have been used to soaked varieties I have arrived at that view. Not sure. But this Oud is Beautiful.

A recent fav of mine as well.
I get this interesting earthy/ginger/tumeric aspect with this oil.

The vintage version is quite similar to oudiques. How does this compare to al hashimis? I unfortunately missed out on that one.

You may enjoy his Jambi. Same same but different with regards to m vintage.

With AlHashimi Maroke there’s a more pronounced scent of coffee and walnuts that are well-rounded. With this one there’s less coffee and walnuts and more clean foresty woodiness to it. They're not far off from each other though. Out of the non-soaked ones I’ve tried so far the maroke was the one with less pronounced medicinal note piercing the senses. I think I prefer AlHashimis over the this one though. As I perceive it as being more full bodied. @Sipy

Steve! $299 for a 3-gram "sturdy bottle" seems quite pricey, not an introductory price, IMO.

It certainly doesn't scare me, as I am accustomed more than that when buying materials for my work, apartment, shipping, food, etc. And of course, there's the Kinam oil I bought, oops! But I'd say $299 is about mid- to high-range high range for me. Now, yes, I did buy Malle's Hope, Promise, and the Moon...and I'm searching for DAWN for sale somewhere (if anyone can help!? Heck, I'll even try opening a credit card!); but, for a weekend buy, I'd rather support a friend.

Which one from alhashimi maroke you have ?

One of the best ouds from @Al Hashimi hands down! I believe I wrote about it a while back, it's a cousin to Maroke Sultani in my mind (that one is very different (more blue than green) but the same refined aesthetic), I would say "emerald incense fumes". It's got a really nice, bright top, which sorta vibrates in your nostrils as you inhale. I'm thinking of non-sweet ocean fruits (if such things ever existed), and that costal quality is present here, as if the scent of the open water were to be bottled, alongside the dense jungle greenery, but pristinely green, not muddy or undergrowth like at all!

That sounds really amazing.
The only AH oil I ever tried was Adan, and that made my Oud of the Year short list when it came out 👍

Sumbawa is just different ,if you are a sucker for fumes then this region is the 🐐.

It’s all relative. I’ve purchased oil’s 10 X that price, obviously in smaller quantities

Ahhh Adan was a Tawi Tawi oil, it was before my time, but I think it falls into the same sub aesthetic within @Al Hashimi as Sumbawa 2023 and Maroke Sultani. It's a divergence from the classical Gulf style of ouds to ones where the artistic abilities of the distiller, and of the wood itself are being highlighted! And from all the regions I've explored from them, oils in this collection are profoundly exceptional. Sure perhaps you could find another oil like Sumbawa 2023, I don't think it would be easy, however with oils like Maroke Sultani ... I don't think that's even possible. There the artisan was showcasing exactly how talented they were, and extracted a scent I never imagined could come out of woods from this region! Or species for a matter of fact, I assume it gyrinops, with Maroke Thaqeel being from filaria woods, again the latter is not a scent I've smelled in almost any other filaria oil!

Ouds like Sumbawa 2023 were sort of a gateway for me. I never imagined you could extract scents which were so nuanced and bright and bubbling over with complexity, all the while, being light and neither having dense leather accords or strong animalic tones. They're a class of oud I can never get bored of!
Sumbawa is just different ,if you are a sucker for fumes then this region is the 🐐.
So true! Sometimes Sumbawa oils are quite herbal and bitter, notes of thyme and rosemary, they're nice as well, but Sumbawa 2023 has stripped that all way, and you get a very rare view of what the heart of good quality woods from this region are capable of!
