Santal and Oud - Jambi

Good morning fellow Ouddicts,

Today I’ve swiped a beauty called Jambi from Indonesia. It opens with a mud and damp rainwater scents that’s both green and herbaceous. The heart is very earthy and woody. I’m getting ever so slight sweet honey nuanced notes at the bottom. I’m not getting any spice. It lacks the medicinal notes that other unsoaked ouds have. A very enjoyable Oud with medium projection and sillage.

"earthy and woody" sounds great!

Sulawesi (unreleased) by Habzoud (@Habz786)

This oil was included in a recent haul I just got from Habz, and it is definitely a banger and an instant favorite out of the bunch. I would keep an eye out for this one! 👀

Now I am eagerly awaiting some inbounds today from @SULAYM 😬🙌

How would you describe the notes of the Sulawesi?

Pristine, with no funk whatsoever. Sweet with a certain airiness and/or spring water vibe. I also get something in the realm of apples or melons in the top notes. Subtle incense in the background like a good chip starting to breath on low heat. I love this one. Very unique profile in my opinion. Pairs really well with some of your sinking Sri Lankan wood on the burner 🤤

Edit: As it advances, what also comes to mind is luxury leather goods.

Edit 2: Beautiful incense note is more pronounced in the dry down.

I also have this sample and I think you've nailed those notes. The signature Habz note is right in there as well. I find this one quite salty.

Great point, I guess that is the saltiness is the oceanic vibe I mentioned as a "spring water" type vibe, but now that you mention it, that is what it is. Also, yes for sure the Habz sig is there.
I swiped this now as it has been sat for a little while ageing and its changed alot since when i first smelt it. Its a real shape shifter and has a very complex profile. Starts off creamy, bright and golden like a Cambodi, then shifts to a very mineral & oceanic phase, then gets fruity and sweet, then leans towards a fizzy green, musky earth with leather and ends with very woody chip on low heat.

The woods used for this oil were dark and heavily resinated, very happy with how it smells 🥰

You are way better at matching the the notes to different scents/items than I am, but yeah all of that makes sense to me. Great work!

3b8althwq - Brunei Hatab

On my left arm, It’s a dark Oud that’s got notes of dirt, wood and leather. having not tried a Brunei before. I have nothing to go by in terms of comparing it. But it’s pretty good.

That said, they also sell other non-Oud products at shockingly low prices. Which makes me question whether they are “kosher” in what they’re offering. I’ve seen low prices, but as @Saudalhajri pointed out they sell Kashmiri Musk at a discount to the 20 Saudi Riyals he mentioned. It’s actually 11 Saudi Riyals ($3)!

I don’t follow the world of musk so I’m gonna go out on a limb and say water is more expensive.

I await patiently for my next Oud to arrive.

Edit: I just received Sri Lankan Kalawana Forest Oud and a gift of Royal Brunei Oud from Oud Stories. Receiving Royal Brunei is very poetic and I’ll take that as a sign.

Oud Stories - Sri Lankan Kalawana Forest Oud

This is a dark, full-bodied, and viscous Oud after a fat swipe. It shares a lot of its scent profile with that of a Trat Boray. It’s spicy, woody, muddy, and luxurious. Projection and sillage are strong. Interesting that a Sri Lankan or Ceylani can share so much when the regions of Trat and Ceylan are so far apart. I am unsure if it’s the same tree species. But I really like it. Its beautiful.

Hi Salam Dear Ouddicts 🙂

Today I swiped two Phili oils

Habz Al Namir 🌸🌺💐🌼🪷🥭🍍
MesOud Levent 🪵🔥💨🖤☕️

Al Namir is tropical oudiness with flowers !
This oil is very clean and extremely wearable, it works like a perfume …
I am still in love with this special oil !

Levent is my favorite Incensy Oud oil ever ! The resinous quality is delicious and the smokiness is perfectly balanced!

These two Phili oils are really different but complementary!

I wish you a Gooud swipe ouddicts
🙂

From what I've heard and read online, after the initial craze around Silani oud, vast amounts of the forests were cleared and ultimately turned into agarwood plantations. Now when it comes to the native species in Sri Lanka it's as the gyrinops walla or wallapatta species, I'm not sure they've been able to plant them organically, or if they have the ability to function as such, small time horizons needed for production, something which plantation Crassnas excel in.

It's quite possible it's a Crassna that's been grown in Sri Lanka, in my mind the scent of Silani ouds is very much in the range of good Borneo woods, where to my knowledge Crassna isn't a native species. This is something you see with some oils marketed as Malay, which smell distinctly like Crassnas, whereas when I think of Malay oils, they have to be malaccensis, or in my mind that's how I view them as well.

Or scratching all that, it's a soaked Silani, I've heard they can almost take a Hindi like profile, but I've never encountered one. What's interesting is, that Trat Boray oil both of us adore is quite light in consistency, yet has a lovely lasting, almost scent cloud surrounding you throughout the day!

i could sense where it might have a slight Hindi profile. It also has similarities to the blue Bakhoori oil from Sokkat AlTeeb.
