Hey Joe!

I layer the two all the time but so far that is more or less the extent of it! Tons of potential with quality oud and I really like it when a "challenging" oud is paired with a sweet rose, but I love my oud too much and have far too little of it to dabble in such things beyond layering.

I am on a quest for an oil that is 1) good enough to be worthy of including in a perfume but 2) sustainably produced and 3) available at a price that allows for generous incorporation into fragrances without having to charge an arm and a leg. It has been slow going but I think I am getting there...
Sounds lovely. Yeah, I recently got some oud oil from a fellow vendor. I'm eager to get it, but I'm undecided about whether to opt for a rose/oud combo. Like, is it worth it? There are so many out there! How would I make mine special? We'll see....

i know you know this already but in the spirit of conversation: each oud is more or less unique, and there are so many different roses to choose from, and so many possible ratios of them all who knows what you might come up with!? I see some folks talking about the amazing transformative power of just a tiny amount of rose in mukhallats, so some wonderful oud touched up with hints of rose might be a nice variation.

And rose itself is so wearable that a perfume that was basically rose oil with hints of a well selected agarwood might be a treat too.

Likewise some thick luxurious mix near 1:1 with a hindi and an absolute would have to be a joy.

Even if stuff like this is out there I'll bet you can come up with something that's worthy of enjoying in its own right.

I'm getting a good amount of Hindi. I should try it with Rose de Mai, Rose Bulgarian Otto, and grey ambergris. Hmmm....

EO Oud Mostafa 2021 - I'll forever be grateful to our dear brother @Rezwan for not only putting me on this oil but generously parting with one of his bottles for me. I adore this oil. I have been searching for this DNA for years with no luck. A deep brown and stern Indian oud with a beautiful incense profile, saturated in dark cocoa powder, which slowly turns into a more steamed milk and then molten chocolate resinous affair. It's gourmand but not overly sweet. Think pure dark cocoa, not chocolate. No barn, faint hints of plums. It's mostly incense, wood, and dark cocoa. One of my favorite Hindi oils. Very dense, deep, alluring, with formidable performance. For the quality, the price it sold for was an absolute steal. And I don't say or feel that way about most EO oils.

Is that the China India border oil? I think I have like 0.3g somewhere, but from my memory I remember it has blue cheese note up top very clear and hard to miss, but it might be another oud Mustafa (mine I think it was VII but I'm sure I bought it in 2021).

No. That's the Krabi Anglong - China. Whole different oil. This one is mostly Tripura wood harvest. This one just says Oud Mostafa 2021 on the label.

Trade Oud - First Batch old Pure Kalamentan Pontianak Hattab Oud Oil

This is truly a beauty! It opens light and airy, adding a coolness like green mint. Which then is followed by sweet bakhoori woody tones. Drying down to vanilla notes.

I am wearing a blend of three CK extractions - two select distillates and ck resinoid extract of my own making acting as a fixative to mute / modify and carry the distilled oils (and adding its own woody sweet base). I have no idea how this would sit on anybody else - the CK profile is a narrow little slice of the oud spectrum and this is no broad-spectrum robusto blend, that is for sure.

But it is soooooooo nice - sugary, floral, woody, bitterweet, close-lying and unquestionably kinamic. Performance is roughly akin to a punchy sandalwood oil, say a CO2 select.
