AlNnahe Oud - Souq AlZal Oud w/ Oudique - Tibetan Incense

This is a beautiful blend of luxury Trat, Prachin Forest, and Pure Hindi border Ouds. It opens with slight but vibrant sweetness from the Trat. It’s provided uplift by the fresh, green, and a tad camphorous and cool feel of the herbal notes of the Prachin. It’s then anchored by pure, deep, warm, and spicy leathery Hindi oud. A nice budget oud that packs a punch and was a great find. I’m thinking of getting another different oud blend from AlNnahe Oud due to the beauty of this oud.

I’m pairing this with Tibetan Incense from Oudique. I’m encased in a nutmeg, peppery, and muddy cocoon of olfactory enjoyment.

communication with the vendor has me pretty much certain it was the same oil if we are talking about what they sold as green kyara in 2023/2024 - they said it was a single batch same as the earlier releases.

I didn't notice this at all for the first year or so, it's only recently that I've I made the connection with the smell of mildew. To my nose it seems the oil itself has changed pretty dramaticallyas it has oxidized - developed a more woody / cedary quality that joined / replaced the initial sweet and almost minty aspect and I feel like some of this woodiness can feel adjacent to mildew. Interestingly, I feel like it's going through a second wave of change - i have been noticing some more rich aged oxidized facets I haven't noticed in the past. Really gives me hope for the quality of aged plantation oils.

I also think the way I perceive CK oils has changed due to perspective gained from sampling other samples so it's possible the oil has not changed that much and it's just my own perspective and associations.
Ah, it's definitely the same batch then. Reading further into this conversation, I was not making an association with mildew. However, now that you have mentioned "ink", this definitely clicked with me. I always get a biro pen ink note from most versions of CK oils. Even those distilled by AHO such as Bilquis. That note has become synonymous with CK for me now.

Sami HHK - had to grab and swipe this after all the CK talk above.

Can’t remember if this oil is made from cultivated or wild material - maybe someone else will remind me. It’s a codistill of Hainan and Hong Kong wood.

In any case, it leaves me smiling and shaking my head. Concentrated lemon-lime citrus, honey and flowers. Sharp, cooling, bitter and gently sweet all at once. One of the best Chinese oils I have.
I can't remember if HHK is cultivated or wild either? It's a lovely oil but a little to quiet for me. It has almost negligible projection I find. At least when I wear it it does. I'm not the dot or swipe on the hand oud sniffing type wearer so as nice as it is I don't use it as I can never smell it.

mesOUD Purest

Folks here went nuts for the recent Borneo Sintang/Kalimantan release. For me, this is even better and more suited to my taste. I’m sure I already have several examples of Aq. crassna in my collection, but this is the first to be labeled as such.

It shows layers upon layers of oudy depth enveloped in a camphoric cloud. In the opening I find notes of cola, lemony citrus and a hint of diesel vapour within the camphor. A very pleasant, subtle, yet complex fruity sweetness comes out in the drydown. This one is extremely potent even by Mehmet’s standards - only tiny swipes needed for the full olfactory effect.

Vaporous is the key word - it almost stings the nostrils (in a good way!). Excited to hear what others make of it.

Fantastic! I received mine today as well. I'm letting it rest for the night and I'll have a go of it tomorrow morning. 🤩🙏

Muzaffar Atarji - Royal Aged Trat (1990 vintage)

Opening this 36 year old bottle is always an occasion for me. The notes I pick up are smooth and never sharp. The years have rounded out the edges.

It opens with notes of candied bergamot, blood orange 🍊, and dark honey. Then I get notes of polished wood and leather which feels rich, and velvety woody. Later, it gets resinous and smoky. It’s as strong a scent as you can get from this beauty.

Bourhan Oud - Shaalan

This is a blend of:

Floral Safwa Ceylani
Burmi Machina Thaqeel
Smoked Vietnamese
Cambodi 86
Kalimantan

It has this vanilla and floral scent that’s just to die for and kind of a hallmark for this brand. I prefer their other blends like General, Desman, and Mirage over this. But this is still amazing. Again, I go back to the vanilla powdery dry feel. The notes keep switching between these different oils. But it’s so blunt, clean, and smooth. Almost velvety and silky. It gets better as the wear moves along. More woody and almond nuances.Very beautiful.

My first ever purchase and first impressions of PUREST - MesOud. As I knew I would be, I'm very impressed by the presentation. From the wax seal on the box to the card of authentication and the wooden box itself. Then within the treasure that it holds. As with all of these oils, they're very young so I'm excited for the journey that age will show me. As @Alamande mentioned above, it's super vaporous and seems to be getting stronger as the minutes pass. It actually made me sneeze the once. Let's call that a brain orgasm lol. Bitter, medicinal, extremely purple, a little bit of a soap note is coming through. Honestly, nothing to even suggest that this is a Cambodian. Blind, I would have confidently said this was a top shelf Nha Trang, or at the very least a Vietnamese. If you look at a map and draw a line from Pursat Cambodia towards Vietnam you will arrive in Nha Trang. Is this relevant? Maybe? Over all, very impressed. Thankyou brother Mehmet. :praying::praying:

I hope it accompanies some of your most beautiful moments and memories, brother. Enjoy it in good health and on beautiful days.

What I actually find strange is that so called “Cambodian” oils often don’t resemble the Vietnamese oils coming from right next door, even though they’re from the same species ( crassna)

I can explain technically why this happens, and why “Cambodian ouds” so often have that familiar jammy sweetness and syrupy texture, but that would be a long discussion and a subject for another time.

What you should know is that a pure breed Cambodian oud should smell exactly like this.

I'm going to put it down as a lack of experience with other oils of this calibre for comparison. It's easy to get a bit confused when oil profiles seem to jump borders. As an example, I have a top shelf aged Vietnamese which I would swear is a Cambodian! I think that when you start moving up the ladder of oud qualities, you have to almost forget about everything you have just learned from the rung below as it's no longer relevant.

I've been outside working for the last hour which has given me time to mull over here what you said. If this is the case it's turned everything I know (or thought) I knew about Cambodian oils completely on its head! I mean, I've never smelled anything like this before!? What is going on that makes a typical or even non typical Cambodian smell so different to PUREST? I guess there are a lot of variables but I think most people would agree that overall, there is a Cambodian profile and this oil is not it. At least from those I have smelled.

Brother, I’m not particularly good at softening the edges of what I say, and I have no intention of offending anyone or casting doubt on anyone’s work.

So perhaps I’ll leave it at this:

The interesting question may not be why PUREST smells so different from the Cambodian oud we know.

It may be how much of what we have learned to call the “Cambodian profile” comes from the wood itself, and how much comes from poor material, industrial distillation, or adulteration.

And perhaps therein lies the answer to why I call what I do the “Soul of OUD.”

All good my friend. I'm not the greatest at this skill either and being Australian, we tend to say what we think. I don't mean for my questions to be too confronting. I'm just blown away by this oil is all. I'm definitely having the "full" MesOud experience here. This is an incredibly high benchmark. I think I've been ruined for any other Cambodian going forward lol.

Lol, This is what typically happens after experiencing Mesoud oils. You can no longer enjoy the ones which are usually available in the market.

Swiped it again this morning, and I’m having very un-buddhist, greedy thoughts 😭…i.e. wouldn’t it be great to have 2.5g of this to myself and be able to wear it as a proper perfume!

But even having my humble 0.5g is a rare treat. ☺️

Today I’m still experiencing the drydown as fruity and subtle, but there is an additional creaminess to it today.

ASO - Jamaal - A generous sample included with my wood order - and what a beauty this is. Of all the oils I have come across - this is only the second (the other being SQ Myitkyina) that could be mistaken for a perfume/ Attar. Delicate florals, wood, the lightest of green notes, the faintest smoke - stunning. Nature‘s fougere? One of the best oils I have come across. 🙌🙌🙌
