For a rainy Tuesday we with a generous amount of Sultani Qadeem from Ahom/Zakir.

[Ouddict.com] Oud of the Day

KYMYA - Malay Candan

Wow! What a beautiful Oud. It has the slightest scent of ancient library wood 🪵. It has this cherry 🍒 brandy accord. Black cherries 🍇 , ripe red apples 🍎, fermented dates and raisins all make up the sum of this oud. It has a caramelized sharp boozy sweetness and deep resinous note. Absolutely amazing.

This morning I had a wild idea of combining what sounded like two opposites. The cool breeze coming thru my window on one side of the building inspired a small dot of yusa’s Karimantan. But when I reached the living room on the other side, it was sunny, warm and still. So I went back for a swipe of Habz Zamarad3 to brighten things up and wow. I wasn’t sure what to expect but the Kari transformed Zam3 from light delicate and etherial to sharp, heavily resinous, smokey, powdery, leather with a lush, fruity, slightly floral uplift. The fruity creamy, oceanic vapors of zam3 contrast so well with the powdery, smokey spice of kari, adding a sort of damp earthiness to it. Theres a dry, warm saffronic quality complimented by a zesty spicy green accord combining minty cardamom, kefir lime leaves and sugary caramel. The resinous facet has become like a buffet of franks, myrrhs, elemi and even some white copal. It dries down with the powdery smokey woodiness within Kari that emulates a clean burn of highly resinous wood, but theres a glittering sharpness to the powdery smoke thats slightly floral and fruit-like, im seeing orange blossom and patchouli here too in the dry-down. Truly enchanting combo lasting longer than either on their own.
Love this. Habz's Zamarads really are the centre of my oud universe at the moment. I have also been playing around with combinations - I particularly like the combo of Zamarad 3 together with Amir Qinam - clean hindi, vietnamese bliss with a little green/ crystalline edge - a 3d experience.

Looking forward to finding other combos!

Faizal Privée - Burma Privée

It has this piercing note I couldn’t identify before but now realized it’s like a gasoline ⛽️ smell that’s appealing. Also present is resinous raisin and dark pitted fruits notes. Slightly animalic from the onset. Feels like rock minerals were rubbed off of the surface to form a large part of the scent profile. Bitter melon and banana peel scents come alive after a while. Feels old, regal, and beautiful. Like I have found a treasure underwater and brought it to the surface. It has this marine aquatic quality as well.

Nice! I had a beautiful layering combo last night. I started with Hindi ChenXiang - Habzoud. The tea and honey notes in this one are so addicting. This I layered with Bilquis 2 - AlHindOud. This particular bottle has some brown ambergris in it that has been there for a good year now. The salty marine animalic notes have seamed perfectly with the sandalwood and CK of Bilquis. Languorous perfection.

A small swipe of EO Oud Ahmad before bed - I feel bad swiping Ahmad with only one hour or so left to enjoy it, since it is such a dynamic oil. For now, I am enjoying the heavy musk notes intertwined with incense, apricots, sweet Malay resin, and faint petrichor, knowing that when I wake up, it'll be more of a dark, woody, smoky, earthy scent akin to patchouli.

The Oud Trader - Wild Aged 5+ years Cambodian Dara (sample)

I can’t sleep so I’m burning the midnight oil.

This is a really unique Cambodi that embodies balanced sweetness that’s not fruity, and deep woodiness. It feels clean, and has slight floral accents. It’s medium bodied, that is to say the scent is somewhat light and delightfully palatable. It’s characterized by sugarcane sweetness and balsamic resin. I love it.

The Oud Trader - Wild Aged 20+ years West Malaysian

This has to be the top oud at TOT. Behind it is the Prachinburri which I also loved very much. Smells really woody, deep, and rich. Complex and ozonic. Cool wood and vegetal notes shifts to dry woods and soft smokiness. Very beautiful.

I’m on this path of repentance so I’m giving a round of wears to all the ouds I’ve relegated from favorites shelf. My goal is to understand which notes bother me and why.

ThienThanh Burma - thick, berry sweet, with fermented fruit and associated animalics. There appears to be a coppery metallic lingering taste and the oil is almost sticky. The opening sweetness is similar to a favorite sweet fruit 1-2 days past prime. As it dries down it’s absorbed into woody resin - this part feels nice. Then again dries out to barn, leather, saliva. Don’t mind it since I enjoy controlled barn but wish there was more sweetness at this stage.

AlMishal Oud - Ardh AlMulook (Land of the Kings)

Consists of:
- Filipino Mulook
- Malinau Mulook
- Malay Mulook
- Laosy Mulook

I’m absolutely blown away by the beauty of the scent. This is a colossal blend of some of the finest Ouds I’ve ever tried. The Malinau is what comes through the strongest with green forest notes and a creamy buttery woody heart. There’s a slight sourness that’s so delightful yet it’s not overpowering. There’s a smokiness that’s rounds it all up beautifully. Incredible. Amazing!

Dima hasao. Now another month ish since last wear. It was young when it arrived. But today, any barn is gone in a minute into dark nondescript fruit and depth. Intoxicating. I'm guessing it's some interaction with something I applied earlier in the day, or some nose blindness, but this is the first oud of any sort today. Whatever the cause, an improvement. Still some fruity muted sweetness, maybe into molasses, and leatherish, not quite earthy, it's no oakmoss, but maybe like a memory of castoreum? Seems too early for age related, so I think conditions just aligned today. Prob like a 7/10, solid enjoyment.

Al Hashimi - Trat Sultan
Phenomenal… rich deep fermented berries hidden in leather. One of the best! Anyone else have this? @Ouddict does any more exist?
Doubt it…

We gave these out for free under an offer last year. Human psychology being what it is, probably doesn’t value easy acquisitions such as this, but it was a fantastic oil. Unfortunately as far as I’m aware, it’s all gone now.
