IO hainan imperiale

This is a nice sweet Aquilaria sinensis oil. I get these hard to pin down fleeting notes of violet, there are all these fresh airy notes coming in and out of focus as I sniff. It’s got a classic smooth Vietnamese scent. The residue on a wooden toothpick left on a table for 9 hours for some reason smells essentially like kyara. This is only after many hours of evaporation. The initial smell on a toothpick is less kyara-like, but still with that certain je ne sais quoi that makes me think of fine Japanese incense. This is a quality oil for sure - a little more dry maybe than some other Chinese / sinensis oils I have smelled.

2 monster Malinau oils today! And xll

EO white kinam vs Borneo diesel
When I tried white kinam on release it was a rambunctious teenager and showing a touch of oriscent signature but otherwise mostly monsterous malinau. Borneo diesel on the other hand was always more of an oriscent oil first and a malinau second. The gap has narrowed big time since. White kinam totally has the evident oriscent signature. Both lovely oils. Borneo diesel more settled and more heart notes while white kinam has plenty of top notes still but equally strong in mid and base.

EO Xll
One of the most amazing dry-downs. The opening is not for me. Crude oil and old diesel stain left on the tarmac. 20 minutes later beautiful spices and very dark purple almost black floral notes come out. Drydown is like irian noir the wood. Creme de violette. Dark dark purple accord. Lovely stuff and can’t get enough of it.

Last Three Days:

AA Lushai Hills - A unique smoky softness, gentle and sweet but also rich, woody, long-lasting and powerful. Excellent projection.

RPP - Cambodi 1999 CoDistill - This just smells vintage . . . the dry-down is my favorite part.

AA - Baraka Taraka - I had to swipe this a good 30 minutes before my significant other came home, as it opens with a noticeably funky barn. Half-an-hour later it's rich milky oud.

AA kiyosumi
A lovely green minty bittersweet cooling Vietnamese oil with a buttery feel of sandalwood. Super pretty and very taha in style

IO nha trang ultima
Magnificent oil. Truly a cut above almost all other Vietnamese minus for my taste the mighty nha trang Ltd and even the royal guallam. No real comparison between these three oils that all have nha trang as their source and the reportedly same or similar Chinese method of distilling aloes. Ultima May just be the most profound green Vietnamese oils while the other two are very red and orange

IO Burma Citron

A sweet user-friendly multi-faceted oil, I get facets from other regions like Cambodia, Malaysia, and Thailand. It’s like Burma is the core of surrounding oud regions😛

All that...with a touch of tobacco....on an oudy base.

I vastly prefer thekonbaung Burma oil from IO. The eatery citrusy top note in this oil is distracting to me and unwelcome. The development is nice and the drydown pleasant.

Got my full bottle of super hoi-an. It came in what is a first for me - one of those small 1/4 tola octagonal bottles - but this one has cut faces. This is the first “precision” 1/4 tola bottle I’ve seen, kind of a nice touch. The smell is fantastic. I’ve got all kinds of kyara-like wafts of fragrance rising up from my beard. Ahhh!
