I think my skin burns when I use Hainan oil for 20mins ... it's not only with Dr Incense's oil but other vendors also .... which is very weird ... it's a fresh Hainan distillation with lots of overpowering clove and cinnamon notes ...

Hmm... you are allergic?

Allergic sensitization is an acquired allergy due to repeated exposure. Perhaps there is something in hainan oud that you are just now getting an allergy to. As for why one hainan oud might not cause the same response, well I have smelled some oddball ouds labeled as hainan - I believe more than one species grows there so that might be the difference. I have smelled hainan oils that resembled malaccensis and others that I guess are sinensis. Maybe you are allergic to one species but not the other?

Today Oudline km super ateeq. This oil smells old, in a good way. It has an unusual mineral resin note that I like quite a bit - reminds me of kunroku a tiny bit.

This is something which I've just started noticing the Burn... the only Hainan oil which I dont feel this Burn is the Hainan 05 from Ensar

I experienced the same thing some years before when I wore a Thai Oud, and then an attar. Both were renowned. I kept wearing, and now I am almost unable to wear majority of Ouds. Now even specific Thai Oud scent from the bottle ignites severe allergy. Thai and Chinese are nightmares for me. But:
"About the woodland I will go,/ To see the cherry (Trat) hung with snow."😀

When doing some research on Hainan woods, i found lots of information on plantations in Hainan, perhaps it is method of inoculation in woods used in more recent distillations. who knows...just a thought...

SOTD for me today was RKsons / EOC sandalwood diluted in perfumers’ alcohol, not sure of ratio, but generous...multiple sprays on self & clothes. the alcohol really makes the sandalwood project, longevity is impressive too, been around 6 hours and going strong. All day in a sandalwood cloud!

Thinking of trying this with blending multiple sandalwood oils together with alcohol...should be interesting. Got some 2ml spray sample bottles for such experiments...

Trakan Vintage (Imperial Oud): A niche product! A classical Oud. Low and high notes flow beautifully. Incense grade Oudwood on the coal, oils of sweet and crispy scent of spices coming out of a diffuser, and I am inhaling the aroma being at some distance.

The way a top class clean Hindi Oud was described by respected Peter "barn without barn", this oil is not having sourly and excessively sharp medicinal notes. After Habz' Al Borneo, this oil has a level.

Though the oil has not been released, but when released, it will be one of the next coming heart favourites.

Thanks Faheem Saheb for correcting me. Otherwise, I was so scared that I had been going to wear Thai. But I wrote (that I have edited) that it is a Thai without Thai. Thank goodness. :Roflmao:
