That tarakan vintage must be wonderful - would love to have a little vial of that on my shelf!

Oh yes indeed. A friend of mine bought a bottle and she is having trouble getting past the fermented / soaked notes. Being kind of stubborn about it if you ask me because this oil has a lot of beauty if you actually wear it. What I like is the sinensis profile combined with certain tart and lacquer almost liquorice notes and that dense, oily heart. The dry down is very much like gently heated Vietnamese wood. If there are other oils that marry the tart and lacquer with the sinensis profile I’d be interested in knowing about it. I haven’t smelled other oils like it. The closest things are various Chinese oils from al shareef and imperial oud and royal kinam from oriscent. These oils all share a common profile and each one of them is wonderful in its own way but the super hoi an has a certain bite - a bittersweet tangy presence - that really makes me happy and for a (relatively) reasonable price. I keep writing about this oil because literally the last three oils I have purchased have been this oil! It really pretty much covers what I’m looking for in an oud oil so I felt better to stock up on this than get a variety of smaller quantities of oil I might not like as much

Hey buddy nothing wrong with ur nose. The real Kyara is quite a distance from the ASQ offering. Crassna, Kyara, etc are used for marketing by ASQ.

Although it's not an Artisanal Oud it's a decent smelling one. Not worth the $165. If I would be in KSA I would've also gone for the refund.

Thankz mate for super sonic fast reply and apologies for super slo-mo from my side. Had to search my comment in this sea of oud 🙂... Stay blessed

Two Samples (thanks Curt!): Port Archie EO, clever gourmand spice on the top and mid but my skin ate this one after a few hours. Port Jaya EO nice Bohemian spices with a slight lingering bitterness in the background. Both enjoyable but not quite enough for me.

I can't remember the last time I've just been sat down at home. Ever since August it's been city to city, then out to the desert, then back to the city, then country to country, continent to continent. The moment I walk through the doors of my home, my family greets me as I go pack my bags to go off somewhere else... 😕

My OOTD: Kilatan
It rained a bit today and it really brought out the sweeter notes. I'm really enjoying Oud this season. Not just one or two swipes. I'm drenched in the stuff.

MUSTAQBIL (ASO). I received this oil last week and have worn it most days since then. The unusual opening reminds me of Fajr (a kind of immortelle-citrus rind opening?), another organic oil from ASO, but Mustaqbil is smoother and more complex and that unusual opening yields pretty quickly to . . . I'm honestly having a most difficult (but delightful) time naming the notes. I reviewed ASO's description which suggests bamboo in the beginning (I concur), but thereafter I get a wonderful smooth kaleidoscope of . . . sunshine-warmed tree sap, sweetened ginger, gentle yellow flowers, melting amber resin, milky reeds, fresh oak leaves . . . these are soaring and rather bright notes, but the oil is very aromatically dense and longevity is all day. It really is like a complete perfume. No harsh or smoky notes, nothing off in any way. Is it oudy? Yes; but although I think of oudiness as a base accord, here it's higher up. I've thoroughly enjoyed exploring this oil, both in trying to "figure it out," and just simply the aesthetic experience of its fragrance. A very satisfying wear, and well worth the moderate price. Am really happy to have it, it is a genuinely new profile in my little collection and discovering this reminds me again why I love oud! Great work Jawed & co. at @Al Shareef Oudh!
