Also - Dr incense release is next Saturday and he's releasing both malinau sticks and kodo chips. That will be one you don't want to miss. I think they drop at 7am est next Saturday. Also. You can check out imperial oud walla patta sticks, JKs other Agarwood sticks are incredible and absolutely killer for representing the regional signatures the wood he uses to make them come from. ASO has some fabulous walla sticks as well I hear. And then I also recommend getting on cannata imports mailing list. He has a "drop" tomorrow and was trained by kyArazen.

Thanks for prompt response!

Based on your conviction I decided not to waste any time and plan to go right to it because why not? Lol

I see they offer a lot of options. Are the Sandalwood ones you recommend the Mysore ones?

JK only has one type of sandalwood sticks available. His other sticks are Agarwood and specific scent signatures based on regions in se asia. Yes - his Mysore sticks. Fabulous value - go for the large size. They will last a while! I prefer these bc they burn lower temp since 1mm in diameter. Very thin. Thinner than most Japanese sticks.

Fantastic information! Here I thought I was quite advanced after learning of most of the quality brands. Never thought to look at Etsy sellers and others making their own or selling wood chips.

I am actually thinking of getting some black Kyara chips from JK. So many options and directions to go. A never ending rabbit hole since I dove down this path.

All started when I saw Shoyeido’s Translucent Path for $795 and thought that’s ridiculous but then I wanted to know what Agardwood and Kyara were and my life changed forever. Haha

EO Kambodi X

Opens with a cheesy barn and a liquor kick,
as it settles it remains barny but not in a dirty way.
It stays relatively strong, especially when compared to the new sub $100 offerings. Further on...I get rich fruits and florals with shades more complex than your average plantation oil. There is also a slightl incensy resinousness, and reminds of how Super Hoi An represents the agarwood it was juiced from. Dry down is far less barny with a “stick to your ribs” aroma, probably due to the grade of wood used. All in all it’s aging just fine and is proving it’s worth.

Went with my economy Laos to try and find the Thai vibe but didn’t have any luck, got more Chinese vibe from this non fermented oil.
Went over top with a swipe of economical Prachin Thai oil .
Total jam with dried fruit and figs with more top end punch
Mixing well with the Laos
This prachin oil is one I use in my blends but find myself wearing it pretty regularly

I must have some unusual Thai oils because I would have been certain that economy Lao oil was from Thailand if you hadn’t told me! The regional thing is so baffling but most of the Thais I have smelled have come from feel oud. He was able to get some pretty different aromas out of a single batch of wood by tweaking techniques and I have one set of Thai oils from him with one of the three that really reminds me of Borneo oils in my collection, the others just smell Thai. So I feel thai oils are chameleons sometimes. I will go sniff it again and then sniff the oils in my collection that are said to be from China. In my mind though there’s no connection. Which makes me think I don’t have a good sample of stuff from China.

Speaking of regional weirdness, I just swiped Borneo essence from IO. This one sure is different from the other Borneos in my collection. I would have guessed from somewhere in the archipelago but not Borneo. In some ways it resembles a sumatra oud I have from long ago, but not really. It is a very mobile oil, fragrance is gentle, and my first association is with certain aspects of patchouly oil. Not much of a woody vibe at all, more herbal and something else I can’t come up with a name or association for. It’s something I smell in the heart of patchouly oil, it’s sort of sour it’s vaguely minty possibly slightly bitter. I like the fragrance of this oil - also has a kind of cigar box vibe. Not the tobacco but the wood itself. There’s this certain dry quality...

I didn't smelt these economy Laos but I'm working something from this country currently (wild oil).

One thing you need to know is that most of farms are located around Vientiane wich is pretty close to Thailand border (North East) even myself needed to find a pot around this area. You just have to cross a bridge to be find yourself in Thailand.

Thing is I experienced smell differs when you get farer from South Thailand
(think Prachinbhuri, Nakhon Nayok instead of, Rayong, Chanthabhuri, Trat) so I wonder what kind of Thai smell you think about @Mr.P, the fruitty perfumey style or darker floral one ?

You remember the one I sent you once ? Does it differ to this style (wich was not fruitty nor floral but more sweet toffea like if I remember well).

As I said, my experience is limited. My Borneos are more sweet and vanilla like, very different vibe.

Different from that one - that one you sent was sweeter and more multilayered and rich in tangy top notes. Different kind of Thai.

I experienced this too! Asos mustaqbil is a malinau/Borneo that is what you described instead of the vanilla vibe I was used to! I liked it just much more vetivery and pine like and dry for sure. Less ambery and more piercing - think light color oil instead of dark

I think maybe I am only familiar with the malinau type and am not familiar with other regions within Borneo. There is so much to learn here. I try to come and share my sense of oils compared to others in my collection but I think my collection is growing more and more irrelevant as I am out of touch with the wide array of top shelf oud that is out these past few years, and I am trying to categorize oud samples based on my collection most of which was collected (90%) over 10 years ago. Forgive me if my proclamations about which ouds smell like which regions are way off!
