Its tough though— that Nha Trang Ultima is just blowing my mind and the Pontiniak 2020 sample they included is close behind. Truly stunning. That’s an oil I want more of.

I received a sample of Pontiniak 2020 with an Imperial Oud order today. This is a profile I’m totally unfamiliar with and I’m not sure what I’m smelling. Trying to make some associations but not coming up with much. Herbs and spices? Vintage perfume that’s slightly gone off? Opening a very old chest of drawers? I’m lost.... Fascinating as always

Edit: settles down beautifully after an hour with a lovely smoky feel

I had to get a bottle. It takes about five minutes for me... but then I just love this one. Can’t believe it’s low price Oud.

wearing a swipe now and just in bliss.

Got the new oils from OudBase today.

Ceylon Nirvana first Impression
~ 30 minutes
spicy, incense, a bouquet of florals, oceanic, sweet, jungle, airy, aquatic, invigorating, energetic, blue, gold, sunshine, expansive, clearing, shapeshifter, serene, tranquility

~ 1 hour
pink pepper(?), cardamom, becomes fairly weaker(opening is explosive)... or my nose is exhausted. pure water, mineral, pristine, somewhat reminds me of Sarawak profile(Al Hashimi's Eden) yet quite different.

Hindi Sultan first Impression
~ 30 minutes
Leather, hay, sweet, berries, zero barns, wildflowers, warm, soothing, nourishing, alluring, seductive,
It has the same assorted berry note of RPP's RDJ Nagaland and Nagaland study set: complete oil. but this one is cleaner or I could say more top note-ish.

~ 1 hour
Leather and berries are going back and forth, playing ensemble. yogurt-ish sourness. settles down. the assorted berry note changes to a different direction(cooler, sweeter). woody.

There's this saying in the wine world. "A great wine should taste great even without aging. a great wine becomes greater with aging."
Considering these are relatively freshly distilled oils, I can't help but have a huge expectation of how these will become over time.

Edit
At the 3 and a half hours mark, both oils smell weak to my nose.

Wearing Bhramaputra again today. Clocked over 14 hours on my skin with projection most of the day. Kind of surprised me because my nose started to go blind. Once I got home after work I realized I was still getting wafts of oleoresins. Put it on at 10am. Was still noticeable by 10:30pm. It ended up scenting my pillows as I slept.

I really hope Tabeer Oud becomes a vendor on here because hands down he’s one of the best distillers coming out of India. I’ve been fortunate to try a lot of the new age distillers leading the way with unsoaked Hindi distillations and I wish these guys got alittle more credit. Everything happens in time though.

My brother. I am wearing the same today.
This opens up like a huge Borneo for me. As it is drying down, it has started to reveal its true self.
Clean to the core. From ethereal toluene to creamy/vanillic balsams to leathery woods with a green incense tinge and everything good in between. The transitions are lovely.
I hope more people could try this.

And Yes, I agree with you. They are eventually going to catch up to the big dogs.
