Caveat emptor.

Qazah by Habzoud

This one is really interesting. There’s a copper twang meets vetiver and violet leaf on first sniff. I get hints of mahogany like woods backed by a lovely sweetness. I never would have guessed this to be a Cambodian! I can’t wait to see all the surprises packed in this oil. The Habzoud sampler has been amazing so far.

edit

drydown is showing a powdery green woods. Very dry and almost leathery. 😎

[Ouddict.com] Oud of the Day

Al Hashimi - Eden
Choir of Sarawak's ocean breeze and Filipino oudiness. wonderful clean oud oil.

Having a really blissed out Vietnamese Oud morning. I love swiping different ouds from the same region, in order to compare. I find it makes me like them all so much better when their differences become so crystal clear.

I started with a small swipe on the wrist of the new Agar Aura Vietnan Special K, followed two hours later IO Nha Trang Ultima on the other wrist. Finally two hours later, a swipe of EO Nha Trang LTD 2.0 further up the arm.

The Agar Aura is the most transparently kinamic oil. Explosions of bright white peppery, golden yellow Kinam, red rouge aspects but without sweetness. Very buzzy, with a light leather base. All very clean and clear. The Ultima by contrast went on very sweet and savory... syrup sweetness over a salty cookie biscuit type smell, over classic nha trang dark wood and leather base. Finally the LTD oil went on and it was mega impressive. Loud and SUPER FOCUSED. It smells like Nha Trang, the very heart, made completely obvious, extremely beautiful stuff. I see why it's a legend, now. I would say the VietNAN oil from Taha is the most different of the three. I really recommend it strongly to anyone who likes his stuff and/or Viet Kinam notes.

Great oils. I love them all and feel so lucky to have been able to try them.

How would you describe the progression of Nha Trang LTD Vs. Vietnan SK ?
Does Vietnan SK has the same buzz that Nha Trang LTD has once it settles down and howers near the skin ?

they are totally different , in terms of "buzz" and crazy sweet kinam notes ultima and special K are more pronunced on that note , LTD is just more deep and complex and last more , but if i have to make a top 3 from this LTD is last for sure
Thanks. That's good to know. This means I gotta try Vietnan SK and Ultima.
This is pretty interesting because price wise Vietnan SK and NT LTD are nowhere close.

Please also keep in mind that Vietnan SK is a fresh oil. Yet already it's absolutely beautiful. I can only imagine what few years of aging will do to this oil.
and yes, completely different oils these. Kinam profile is profound in Vietnan sk. The other two oils are sublime in their own right as well.

Indeed brother ,vietnan sk is an amazing oil even fresh ,in time maybe better than ultima IO. This sk share all the facets of kinam lol ...but i sugest you to try another crazy oil in this way and cheaper ,the Hainan Qinan IO ,crush my head ...cant belive is plantation ,ive smell many kinam oils up to date but none are cloose to this ,maybe the most gourmand green kinam oud ever ,and is not co2 as 90% of kinam plantation oil ...

Sorry for the late reply! I would mostly agree with Mario P.
Vietnan SK is massive Kinam... Ultima is Kinamic Nha Trang... LTD is like deep pure Nha Trang note, much less kinam(but still present).

For ME, I’d say I’d put Nha Trang LTD & Vietnan SK as a tie for my favorites of the three, with Nha Trang Ultima in third. But they are all excellent and I think it’s just a matter of preference. I might shuffle them around next week and have a totally different order.

Also you’ve got me super curious about Hainan Qinan.

No worries at all. I've been hearing a lot of praise for Vietnan SK. Gotta try it!

Wearing a Kalakassi from Azeem

This is a really young oil but its superb in quality. He captured the scent of hearing Agarwood beautifully. There’s just enough smoke here without falling into bbq territory and a whole ton of spiced Hindi ouddyness. Absolutely NO BARN at all either. Clean all the way!
Aaron! My brother! I love how you are finding these smaller houses, private distillers in the foxholes. They are churning out some phenomenal oils.

I agree, Aaron. Major respect. Some of the tips you’ve sent me have been awesome. Excited to send you these Yuzhi Oud samples. The CO2 fractions are incredibly pure and strong and his hydrodistills are actually pretty nice oils. I’ve been on an insane Hainan oil kick, so I may be biased. But these are really teaching me a lot about what’s possible for a sustainable set up—- I really truly believe that perfumers should hook up with this guy and make some magic, rather than sticking with the Firmench “fantasy Oud captives” and the like. That being said, there’s no replacing artisanally distilled wild Chinese Oud.

Yuzhi Oud?

it’s an interesting thing he’s doing. I see it more for perfumers, not competiting with the artisanal vendors and distillers here. Kyara Zen wrote something about his early days but he’s expanded his operations to include several other offerings and fractions. I’m testing the ethereal floral fraction at the moment and it barely smells like Oud at all, still I could see how controlling this fraction of the oud(the floral notes) would be a great thing to be able to tweak for strength(against the ferment note or the heart note) in a natural perfume.
