M212 Nagaland - Tajoud/Assam Aromas/Tajul Bakshi

Just received 3 ouds from Tajul today. They are all Hindi's but non soaked, so none of the barnyard notes. To my nose, this opens with a very clean and woody cinnamon note. It has some sweetness with a hint of tobacco as well. There isn't much going on in the way of base notes which gives it a very light and airy feel. As the cinnamon note fades, it begins to transition into a crystal clear sweet, woody, menthol aroma. This one reminds me in many ways of a Hainan Chinese oud that I have.

I’ve been wanting to try Tajul’s work for awhile now. I hear it’s some of the best in India.

Imperial Oud - Hainan Qinan

Honeyed floral opening that develops into a lovely orange note to my nose. Moving towards a cherry smell with wildflowers drifting in and out. Something fizzy in the nose at some stages, especially the orangey parts.

My GF asked what beautiful perfume I was wearing. 2 years ago, I would never have imagined that an oud oil could smell like this.

SOTE Royal Grade Cambodi 1985 from @Elixir Attar

I guess this is the reason people in gulf are crazy about Cambodi oud.
Consistency is spreadable but not pourable. Truely, ateeq kind of oil.
It goes through transitions. From sharp green smelling to sweet dates. From fruity to leathery. From jammy to powdery. The dry down is beautiful.
While I am waiting for mine, please expand a little bit on the scent profile and the transition it goes through. Did you also get the hindi bro?

Al Hashimi Mystery Unreleased Indo Oil 2017,
no name provided.
I thought this might be Saba Jinko but was informed that it is not.
It’s very likable and becomes bitter and incensy, while still being oudy with a touch of fruit.

Yes brother. I got the Hindi too. I just swiped Cambodi.
There’s something that age does to the oils, that’s hard to put in words.
I’ve tried one small swipe, so take my words with a grain of salt.
The opening I felt was akin to a ‘new age’ oil. Thin and green. Then, magically it morphed into a sweet jammy goodness that everybody thinks of when they think about dahnal oud cambodi. 3-4 hours in, fruit leather kinda vibe. After than, it’s like musky, leathery with brown ambergris undertones. I’ll expand on it a bit more tomorrow.
It’s not a fancy oil. But, I feel, it’s something that’s very true to what real Oud used to be. So, no frills and trills here. Just pure uncut Oud pleasure.
You’ll see what I am saying once you get yours.

Masha Allah. You summarized it so well, I can almost taste the oil myself.
In a time when people are fascinated by the top note or middle note; distillers are playing with low temp, high press etc; Sometimes we need to go back to the basics. The analogy of this is like a batsman who can play amazing pulls and hooks and reverse sweeps and can't defend a ball with straight bat. lol.
Can't wait hear from you about the hindi.

I received my package from our very own @EJayB and wow! Talk about being blown away.

Ed’s Vietnamese oil is nothing short of spectacular. First impressions are a minty, herbal, cinnamon kissed Oud note that quickly becomes warm and creamy. The oil itself is thin but the scent is THICCC (with three c’s if you know what I mean). Everything about this is a labor of love and it shows.

I’m proud to own his first release because trust me, in due time, we’re all gonna be clamoring to buy up this future legend’s work. Mark my words. This man is going places.
