Both of these are really nice. I love having a good traditional oil laying around whenever I want to gauge just how barnyard something is. Oud Shauyb balances the fermentation and sweet/spicy tamarind notes really well.

Have you tried Yunnan Imperiale from IO at all? It’s pretty similar to Oud Shauyb and is really fun to do a side by side as well.
Yes Aaron, I love them both.
Unfortunately, have not tried Yunnan Imperial, yet. I'll keep an eye out for it though.

@Castingshadows and the Muluku few bottles gone already without your review! His parcel is due to be delivered today @Taesik Yun lol

I just got home to my package!!!
I can’t wait to dive into these. I did a quick sniff and was immediately blown away.

We’re all in for a serious TREAT with these oils. The frankincense/Oud distillation is crazy good. I know how I’m spending the rest of my night!

Sultan Hojari from Habzoud First impressions:

This was a codistill of green Hojari incense and agarwood from Indonesia.

Sultan Hojari opens with the most exquisite bahkoor like experience. Huge wafts of crushed black pepper meet temple smoke in a pine forest. Sticky sweet notes of pine resin kissed by the smoldering embers of last nights fire along with ambery citrus like nuances are situated next to smoldering juniper.

This is the sacred offering of incense smoothed out over four heads in an oil. There’s huge wafts of smoke but it’s not acrid. It never feels cloying and it’s not overpowering. It’s in perfect balance and harmony with the backbone of the Indonesian Agarwood that slowly dances in and out of the top notes.

What’s interesting about this oil is how seamlessly blended its become over the years. What you get is frankincense of the highest quality yet it’s still high quality Oud chips on charcoal at the same time. This stage lasts for awhile. Maybe an hour or two.

When the Smokey incense starts to recede a creamy, green Oud appears. The peppered Frank from the opening is only a whisper at this point but the smoke is just beautiful and hanging on with only the slightest tendril here or there.

The Oud in the base is stunning. It’s rewarding because it offers an entirely different side to this distillation that reveals sweet green notes on top of powdery woods. The overall ouddy factor is resinous without feeling fruity or musky. At times there was buttery Mysore notes from the incense interacting with the oil and others just felt like smooth, green oceanic waves of OUD. So good.

TLDR:

Top notes
Bahkhoor front and center
Thick peppery incense
Crushed pine needles
silver fir and citrus

Mid notes
Waves of Smokey incense
Foresty green oud
Powdery woods
Oceanic breeze

Base notes
Creamy resinous Oud
Green incense
low temp Agarwood

longevity 12+ hours on skin
Projects well for the first 4
Soft projection for another 2 or 3 hours
Close Skin scent for the remainder

Went down a bit of a Kinamic rabbit hole this morning. Started with some IO Hainan Qinan on one wrist and decided to put it head to head with Kyara LTD 2.0... I know this oil is meant to be mostly Chinese wood with some Vietnamese skins but it smells mainly Vietnamese to me.

Then I put a little Nha Trang LTD up my arm and it shined brighter than the rest. Further up the other arm, Hailam Kilam, which was a nice contrast to the other oils, sweet and musky with a little buzz.

Finally a little dab of Vietnan special K near my elbow on one side and IO Nha Trang Ultima on the other.

I’m buzzed out but it looks like Nha Trang LTD Still takes 1st prize in my heart. Hainan Qinan is the least like the others but still very pleasant.

Just wearing home made oud from Malaysia made in California again today.
I encourage everyone with interest to do home distillation, it is rewarding.
I didn’t have to be sold this oil with a story and once I put my nose on it I’m choosing to keep it all except a few samples I’ll be randomly sending out to people or giving away as gifts to friends. This No name oil I made at home is definitely the favorite Malaysian oil in my collection!

Wait review for the maluku 🤓
Today IO Hainan Imperial
Brother Maluku is AMAZING!

super first impressions but here it goes

Maluku opens with an explosion of fizzy cola, purple florals and a medicinal undertone that feels like sweet acacia blossoms drenched in cola. It has the floral woodiness of a sweet Borneo, the purple floral vein that runs through high grade Sumatrans but it also has this old world Malaysian buzz to it similar to the top notes of Ghazal from Habz

As the sweetness and floral opening subsides you get a really beautiful green Malaysian kick. It’s almost spicy at times but there’s this persistent floral note that weaves in and out of the wearing. I’m only 3 hours into the drydown but there’s a soft, supple leather note that darkens the whole drydown. It goes from bright and cheery to deep and gloomy. There’s still a green vein running through the whole oil and that slightly musky/leathery tone of Ghazal is here but smoothed out and toned down.

These are just first impressions but this is a winner.

Wow talk about being blissed out man. You’re a walking Agarwood tree!

Imperial Oud - Aceh

Love the green opening to this: sugar cane, spices, vetiver, oakmoss, jungle, and lemongrass. Slight element of stagnant green water in a forest (in a good way), damp wood, herbs. Drydown is peppery.

Definitely want to try more Sumatran oils.
