Wearing Halawa an organic oil from Al Shareef —- this oil is $185 for 2.5g and it’s an incredible sweet Malay. I really think it’s something special, especially considering the price. Side by side with Jamaal I see why Jamaal commands the premium for its tingly Kinam tones but honestly when they’re not side-by-side, Halawa is a great bargain and a lovely easygoing Oud. I’d call it a morning Oud.

I’ve sampled almost all of ASO’s current Oud offerings, wearing them each four times or more. Would anyone be interested in a separate thread where I break them down a bit?

I think your ability to translate scent is superb. I think you should review more. I always love seeing your reviews on fragrantica and Basenotes as well so to see more threads dedicated to your Oud journey would be amazing.

A sample of "Bhutan Oud" from Mellifluence. This is by far the most cheese and airy top note Oud I can recall.
This can drive people crazy in public 😀

And 5 mins later, super Animalic, Leathery, Barnyard. Cant take my nose off. And it just fills in the room with silage when I walk around. I guess I am sleeping on the couch tonight 🙂

Something I have learnt from my experience smelling Ouds, whether I like the cheesy/barn notes or not, it just makes it very addictive. I keep going back to it even if it stinks every time. Magic of Ouds!!

MiskuAmber Sri Lanka on the left
Habzoud Zamarad 2 on the right.

The Sri Lanka oil opens barny,
has some unfamiliar notes,
that may have been picked up from the little
glass/rubber dropper that my sample came in,
but most of it fades till you get the familiar
Walla Patta scent, but then when I stop sniffing and then returned, the barn is still kinda there, does it truly go away, or does constant sniffing block it out, go figure?
Considering the price, it’s an okay deal.

Zamarad 2 has a nice clean vibe, Malay indeed,
not camphoric IMO. There’s a tiny facet of Ayu in it. Smooth mellow oudiness, a perfume characteristic, a touch sweet, a sprinkling of fruit, a pinch of spice, a brush of resin, and throw in some wood. I think I should emphasize mellow, for me personally, I don’t get a mind buzz, or an oudy sock-you-in-da-face, but it’s more of a fun oil, or for perfuming one’s self. Of course you can’t go wrong with the price.

Awesome.

New day more swipes
IO Aceh on the left
Habzoud Aceh Ateeq on the right

Very similar oils with earthy mineral incensy
oudy spicy characters.

So i feel it worth mentioning only the differences
that I currently perceive.

IO Aceh, the thinner oil , exhibits more of the
patchouli note, and has a Papua and Merauke
likeness.

Aceh Ateeq, a tad more viscous, has a more rustic vibe, hits my nasal pathway a little harder,
and exhibits more of the floral.

If you want more Patchouli-Merauke go with IO,
if you want that added kick with a floral hue
go Ateeq. But honestly, just flip a coin, you can’t go wrong with either.

Update, upon further drying, IO Aceh is showing the floral, Ateeq staying steady.

I'm in the process of moving house so I'm stuck on my phone for the time being, which is a crappy medium to read the Internet, imo. So, I've not been reading the forum much. Also in celebration of my move I've been drinking. By myself. Because, why not?
Earlier I swiped 2 ouds and haven't been paying attention to them really. One was from our dear absent @F4R1d0uX (La Maison Khenata) - Mandalay Signature which is really nice, not super loud but a lovely Burmese oil with some kick, and the other oil I struggled to recall what is was. But! Upon deep inhales this thing was BLOWING ME AWAY. it had a Hindi vibe but no overly ripe/fermented undertones. And then, I remembered what it is.

Brahmaputra by Tabeer Oud. Excuse my language here but... Shit. This is beyond good. Redolent of Al Jannah by @Habz786 which I'll need to revisit to draw further comparison, but oh yes. Oh, oh, yes. This is outstanding. Think I've had it since early January when it was freshly distilled and now its turned into something special..... oh my. Yep, I've. Given no description besides some superlative but this is hitting all the spots.

Moving house has been pretty neat. Nice to go from a 1bed flat to a proper house. Day 2 of moving and still haven't unpacked everything, not too sure where everything belongs. It's a weird feeling.

Late afternoon swipes
AH Ibn Zaydun and Saba Jinko

Saba Jinko has a nice Borneo likeness,
my sample is all gone,
but today “back-up” arrived,
along with it, some Ibn Zaydun.
I Z reminds me of a hygenic HOM Malay Encens,
a touch of AA Kemegahan,
and when I’m outside with lots of fresh air
there’s this outstanding bitterness like
Senkoh quality. Can’t wait to give it another try
to see what else I can get out of it.
