Morning swipes: AA Suka Cita clear as a bell (about 45min in, pre vanilla) and brother Mario’s latest Malay oil which interprets malaccensis in a broader stroke than that to which Taha and others have accustomed us yet never veering into the heavy and squat edifices of yore. Charming and unexpected.
Wow what a great descriptor for Jinkoh Kurozatto! It has some meat on its bones that’s for sure!

When I first got JK it was intensely sweet but it’s already calming down and more complexity is showing. Amazing stuff

Royal Bengal Oud / RBO Khao Kho - Opens with indolic white florals and seriously addictive bitterness. The bitterness fades and the florals are joined by a bright, zesty, acidic profile and icy cold menthol. The base notes are really green, wet, and jungly. Oddly enough, I find this particular jungle profile to remind me of spinach; earthy, green, and heavily mineralic. It's such an odd oud, in that it never blew my mind initially in the way that some do. Instead, it's been a quietly forming habit, where the occasional swipe became weekly, and now many days per week. I'm looking forward to digging into all the samples Ish sent my way.

Ensar samples disappointed me -- lots of hype -- assuredly quality but I was seeking longevity, and an every day use oil
so although a few of the samples I ordered from Ensar were magnificent none had any silage on the skin. Oiling a garment might be OK for winter / fall but still thats not what I was going for. If I recall correctly that didn't work either.
Personally as I try various houses ( all disappointing thus far {almost} )
I am finding a mixed bag. There is a lot of hype on this forum about HALAWA from ASO so that is on order just because I'm frustrated. and I have a few similar on the way.
This great great guy "Ish" from Royal Bengali Ouds sent me a crap ton of samples but unfortunately the Trat I liked became out of stock.( I believe ) either that or I got indecisive. I really should order something serious like a 6ML from him soon but the samples although great aren't having that longevity I'm looking for. Speaking of "houses" the big very commercial Swiss Arabian does have an attar that I love and use a lot...... again I wish it has some staying power. They also have a CPO that comes off like chocolate that I have no issues paying for even if it doesn't have longevity because both of those product do project well. Its almost a daily driver for me Oudhy chocolate. I tested another house I wont name and their Trat ( kind of barnyardy with "other Notes" I wont mention as to avoid the online fight again) but when I went to order it after their teardrop sample it wasn't the same . I waited tested the 3ml over and over and just liked its main notes even though the undertone had a Bleaaeek uggg blah splattooie to it. it started to not matter I just wanted that top note. So I order a 6ml and its no where near the previous tear drop sample or the 3ml I ordered Top note NOTE NOT EVEN PRESENT . So Screw one house never to order from again And thus we move on. All while the wifie screams in the background " that crap (oud) it makes my throat close up its nasty ..." I have jokes for that but lets again just move on Happy hunting bro. If you find something Phantasmal let me know I'm still trying to decide if any actual colognes from Swiss Arabian are worth ordering without the Oud "offense" my wifie doesn't like . I've catalogued their samples the EDPs and the CPOs from their sample kits. Well at least the Mens and Unisex. Wifie didn't want to play along ( WTF? ) I narrowed it down to a handful. But they aren't a priority. My Go to Cologne is bvlgari man black. Happy hunting bro.
Would love to hear your thoughts on Halawa

Is it smokey? Curious how the incense term is being used to describe this one. Looks great as long as it’s not all smokey 😊
As with barn, I tend to smell past any smoke or barn, to focus on the aromatic goodies.

So now that you mentioned it, yes there’s a touch of smoke in Saba Jinko, but I wouldn’t call it a smokey oud. As the scent progresses, the touch of smoke diminishes, till it seems to disappear.

To me, the incense term is a combination of scents that remind me of the smell of heating oudh or lighting incense. It’s a combination of a vaporous mineral note with oudiness, resin, and smoke. But the smokiness can be light-to-heavy, smooth-and-suggestive, to outright harsh-and-burnt, and sometimes quite ashy.

I’ve got to come in “close” to enjoy Saba Jinko, but it’s worth it to me.

AA Royal Myanma last night—still thinking about it. I have seen the progression of this oil, from a brain burning, nose blocking confusing freshie, to an oil which resembles (in scent) a lot of Taha’s SK oils I’ve sampled, but dialed up to MAX volume. There’s a bitter, sweet(ish), camphor, rooty, piercing high note to this oil, which is ridiculously potent. Would love to find a little high grade Burmese wood to burn—I don’t think I own any. Big big wow factor to this oil.

Wearing the new Al Janah 3 today

If you thought Al Janah 2 was pristine, the crystal clear clarity of spices, chai tea, warm milk, and a cooling Hainan vibe in the opening absolutely takes this trilogy into unforeseen territory. In order for an already “clean” Hindi to feel dirty in comparison to its absolutely upgraded sibling tells you a lot about the grade of wood AND distillation techniques.

Al Janah 3 almost feels like Chinese sinensis at first. It’s simply beautiful. In all honesty I’ve been getting burned out on a lot of these new age Hindi oils because they’re all so damn pristine they smell the same but Al Janah 3 takes a different turn here. The top notes are piercing and ethereal with an overall warmth and comfortable vibe that you just feel relaxed the moment you first sniff. Unfortunately this renders Al Janah 2 obsolete in my opinion as Al Janah 2 feels earthy and bland in comparison which is no easy feat. To literally watch an already top shelf oil fall apart by its upgraded counterpart speaks volumes to the complexity of Al Janah 3. Make no mistake this is still Hindi. We have sweet dry hay, spices and chai tea but there’s something so uplifting here that it feels like watching milk being poured over a Shivalingam at a temple during a full moon. It’s soothing. Uplifting. Clear.

I have not but am really curious about it. Let us know. Did you get it from anwar?
Oh man this just came in the mail. I wasn’t expecting it until Monday but it came so fast. This is absolutely Royal level on all accounts. Pure mind buzz and sesquiterpenes galore. There’s not even a comparison I can make because I didn’t know Hindi’s could smell like this. It’s unreal. I’ve tried Ensar’s $500 a gram unreleased Hindi’s like Nagaland 3000 and Camasa and those don’t come close to being in the same league. I’m kind of speechless.

EO Bois De Borneo

A little spice accompanying the oudiness, with glimpses of berries and sweet resin.

Side-by-side with AH Saba Jinko

Side-by-sides can be quite revealing,
although scent may influence scent, but also, it can reset the nose when it gets stuck.

SJ makes me perceive a sandalwood oil note in BDB, and BDB brings out the bitter, fruity, oudy, and complex side of SJ.

I'm also wearing Al Janah 3 right now and Castingshadows your description is spot on. This is such a comforting, beautiful oil. I haven't experienced anything else like this one so far, I'm really enjoying it.
I’d say for the price it doesn’t really get better than this in the new gen Hindi department. I love that Habz is always bringing bangers for us at an affordable price. There’s lots of similar oils on the market right now but Al Janah 3 has such an addictive opening that I think dominates the $200/gram Hindi range.
