True Ouddict
Thanks for sharing.Yuzhi Oud YZ07 (Hainan Hydrostill) - I bought a sample set from Jeff a while back, and have been slowly working my way through it. So far, his cultivated kynam incense is the star of the show for me, but this oil is a close second. Really tannic tea and white flowers yield to a great tangerine / freshly peeled orange zest that is relatively potent and seems to last forever. Not the most complex, but it works out to be about $30-$40 for the gram that I purchased - I love what he's doing to make oud super affordable.
A while back, Luca Turin mentioned that he'd been chatting with Russian Adam about the potential for more bottles of Chinese Oud, after posting a glowing review. Adam had mentioned he'd found a sustainable source of Chinese Agarwood that could make this possible. I could see YZ07 fitting effortlessly in Chinese Oud, I wonder if Yuzhi was the source Adam was talking about.
I have tried one from him, the one that says barn. I like the smell. What I find about these fractioned Co2 extracts is that they are more like Oud notes. Their characteristics arent like Oud oils. They have no complexity or transitions like the Hydro distilled oils. I see these befitting blending where a perfumer is trying to introduce a note.
It would be interesting to compare Yuzhi and Grandawoood, they both have some CO2 extracts.
