I’m wearing Purple Haze from Oud Lab (brother Abu Tominga’s house)
While this is an Attar it’s better described as an oud because the opening florals create a really gorgeous and grounding (but fleeting) experience. However it’s the oud that really makes this special. It’s difficult to guess what region the oud is from but if I had to guess it’s some kind of Malinau/Indonesian/Borneo mix with STRONG incense vibes. I’m talking this is straight up old school oud vibes all the way. Is it new age clean? Not at all. But it’s not fecal, cheesy or barny either. Instead it’s that classic intense ouddy vibes you get from old school distillations where the incense note feels like a sliver of wood on charcoal without actually smelling burnt. It’s vaporous with heavy projection for a bit before sitting closer to the skin. As the Smoke starts to clear a creamy resinous wood note appears that feels like rich cacao and velvety smooth musk. A touch of leather rounds out the base.
Overall this is a really solid Oud experience. The opening florals almost feel herbal like Bulgarian lavender absolute mixed with Frangipani even though neither material is used. Rich, spicy ouddyness and camphor will blast your nostrils away. Bravo Abu!
