Velvet Kyen...
I woke up earlier than usual this morning, and immediately put on a touch of Velvet Kyen, with the intention of lying there and focusing on the scent. It starts out with lots of spicy notes, and I kept thinking, “brown spices”. Translucent, almost transparent brown, like a sheet of dark glass, or clear water moving over rocks. And then, in the midst of the cinnamon and vanilla, I had a flash of green, and I had an image of a pine bough pass through my mind.
I fell back to sleep, and when I woke up a few hours later, it was as if I was in a mist of the scent of Velvet Kyen, still so strong.
Over the past few days, of getting to know this oil better, the thing that stands out to me the most is the note of gently heated wood… that incense note. The description that Adam gives speaks of fruits… but I don’t get much of that. For me, it is mostly deep spices and incense.
This is a long-lasting oil. The times I’ve worn it, the scent has lingered for a good twelve hours.
When I had my friend sniff the oil, in the bottle, she said, “Wow, it’s really smoky. I didn’t expect that!”. And then, I had her smell my wrist, where the oil had mellowed, and she said, “That smells different, powdery”. I love getting the perspective of folks who have little experience with oud!
I’m so pleased with this oil, and I can’t believe the price. I plan to use a few drops of this oud for my next bottle of beard oil 🙂
