Kambodi Imperial by IO, I received this oil as a sample from Faheem 6 years ago and goodness this oil is still amazing. I really love sweet woody oud profiles, this one smells like toasted buttery honey bubbling on a stove it really is special and lasts all day and into the next day even. Would definitely love to purchase a whole bottle if anyone is willing to part with theirs hahaha. Thanks again Faheem!

I have two little spray bottles that I filled with alcohol and 1-2% of ward lab’s ck oils. He’s had a number of CK oils in part as an evaluation process so I am not sure if this is in stock or not. today I spritzed the second one of a series that I have been checking out. I actually bought a couple of full bottles of this one because the price was really reasonable and it has an interesting profile - a bit piquant, maybe “hot”, some pungent spice with a slight hint of Kaempferia-like heartiness. It has a little bit of those salivary notes so if you are sensitive to that oil number one or three might be better. I find this one’s punchiness to work well in blends i am making.

What is most interesting is each of these oils in light of the others. One is quite smooth, and honey-like and satisfyingly minty. The second one is a little bit robust and has some spicy and peppery notes to it. The third one has that fresh floral airy opening - violet, cassie, mimosa(?) and sugary - like olefaktory’s home-cooked ck oils. I am going to put all three together into a single spray at some point because it seems like it was meant to happen.

The Attar Store - Tarakan Vintage
Habz - Sulawesi Ateeq

really enjoying both of these Indonesian oils, they're bright, shimmering and ethereal.

But, what I want to know is the age. It's all good saying that something is vintage but let's be fair - that's a pretty meaningless statement by itself, right? I'm drinking a bottle of wine I bought a while ago, it says 2020 - not sure if I bought it that year, or in 2021 - but is that considered vintage, now? What's the threshold for something to be considered vintage? or ateeq? That means 'old' - but it's very ambiguous IMO.

I often wish for more details.

/edit - my bad, just re-read Habz' post RE: the Sulawesi, in March '22 it says it's been aged for 7 years, so it's coming up to 9 years now, I guess. Still, curious regarding thresholds of vintage and ateeqs here!

With me, I really love my vintage spray fragrances, and I generally consider these from about early 2000s and before - so 20 years or so. I guess it depends on the person?

Agar Aura Myitkyina 4k, the first version. Easily my favorite Burmese oil from the ones I tried so far, and probably my second favorite oil from Taha. Complex, deep, clean, with an explosion of flavors and colors. For the price, a no-brainer.
What are some of his best Malaysians?

SULAYM HM Malay. Resinous, oudiness, leathery-ness that stays throughout but dampens down a lot by a couple of hours in, very sweet but can also be sour. Dry woody notes as well as wet woody notes that accompany the oozing resin note, a note that plays throughout. Smoky and non smoky notes of agarwood being burned, an "incense" note if you will. Purple berry (mainly) with a dark, dark red berry hue.

Lovely oil.

What are some of his best Malaysians?
I must confess I haven't tried that many from Taha. Mostly because I'm not a huge fan of his super clean, new-gen oud oils aesthetic. second, I'm not a huge fan of Malay oils, except for those Tiger Rostrata, purple-floral ones. Hence, I'm not qualified to answer that question. I'm curious to know myself.

UNS Fine Crafts Irian Jaya. This goes back to the early basenotes discussions. This oil is greatly improved over its original state. Very much a “dignified and old” oil now and one I will savor slowly

ASAQ Thaqeel this oil did not wow me like I thought it would. Initially, it was very green and on dry down I got the scent of spices like Sri-lankan ouds I have experienced and a deep woodiness but nothing much beyond that was expecting more of a complex oil but it smelled like a standard oud nothing too special. It also did not last long at all in full it was around 3 hours. The projection on this was also muted. Could have been because it was just a little bit in the sample vial and all that I could get on my wrist was stuck on the dipstick all these years, so could have dulled the scent that way but overall I just did not get the hype around this oil from my experience.

A little dab of mesoud’s Trat Sweet at the moment. Smells like rooibos, poplar forests in spring, sweet, lightly woody. it was distilled in a way that avoids the weird insectoid notes that make me hesitate to wear some thai oud. This one is pleasant through and through and a good intro to thai profile oils

Oud Said by MesOud - (Indonesia - Gyrinops Verstegii - codistillation Lombok + Sumbawa)

When I first tried this oud I thought there was a mistake and I was sent an attar or mukhallat by mistake. There was so much going on and the smell was so unique, nothing like all the Vietnamese, Malaysian, Thai, or Hindi oils I had tried.
The first thing that comes to mind when I smell oud said is calmness and peace. This is difficult to describe but there are some oud such as the vibrant fruity ones that "energize" my soul when I smell it, but this one has a calming effect. It is somewhat smoky, reminds me of latakia tobacco mixed with soil (but not wet/moist soil, think of dryer soil) and the smell you would get in a room with old books with the leather covers. I had a friend try it with me and the first thing he said is "this is what it would smell like when you enter the room of a sheikh (scholar or elder of family or tribe)". I will definitely be getting some more and save it for special occasions. I find it perfect for the current winter cold.

According to the description by @mesOUD this is a codistillation of two types of Gyrinops Verstegii from Lombok and Sumbawa. I have tried both of those separately after buying the sampler pack, and even mixed them both on my skin to see what it would smell like, but this really opened my understanding to what a difference codistillation makes.

Today wearing star oud 95 year old tree Bengali oil. Raw resinous wood, coffee beans, dark chocolate, sweet hay, honey, oudy smoke. Smells like a lovely classical Hindi
Wow that's a blast from the past!
Today is Tuba by MesOud. Outstanding oil - deep dark red with a nice sweetness behind it. Top shelf stuff no doubt about it

last night swipe before reading before bed, I wore Sumatra Seufi by Mesoud. A fantastic Indonesian oud, very ethereal, almost Sri Lankan walla type, blue/green, cooling, oceanic. Good stuff
