Speaking of IO I’m sitting here stressing over, using my super hoi an. I love having a small stash of it, but I also love smelling it and therein lies the problem. That is heavy oud and a little bit pushed on the ferment but just on-point to bring out this crazy deep chewy dark licorice intensity kinamic / sinenses / dank malaysian old resinous tang.

Just too good - I can’t bear to use it and I can’t bear not to use it. In this kind of situation, the correct path is clear: busting out the hoi an as I type, more or less.

I can’t complain, though the one on the right is topped off 🙂

You have plenty to enjoy bro. If you don’t use it then oud is nothing but a useless pretty bottle on a shelf. It is made to enjoy 😊

EO Tigerwood Royale

I sold my bottle of this and kept 0.3 grams for reference. I knida regret it now. Maybe I'll search for it down the road. It's definitely not a "beautiful" or say, "pretty" oil. It's wild, super manly, dark, serious and full on deep resinous oudiness. It's also really strong for an oud oil. It's one of the very few oils that I used to wear out. It wears beautifully. On sale it was also really well priced, like around 175 a gram. I feel like I'd want to have another bottle of this just to wear it out, more than wear it for relaxing at home.

today was 2 very high end Sri Lankan oils - Ceylone Royale by Imperial Oud & SL One by Olefaktory.
Good stuff but didn't get the usual amazingness that CR gives me. Also went noseblind to both quite quickly until I got home - and this is after putting on gloves to cycle home with. So weird. You'd think the oil would rub off onto the inside of the glove and then be even harder to perceive

I've not been wearing oud much lately, been pretty busy at work and my day ends before I even realise it and had no chance to apply a swipe!

SULAYM's HM Royal Malay. Lovely morning, green garden freshness, with some camphor notes helping it out, and some camphor mintiness, purple and red berry hue (red only stayed for the top and first 30mins of heart notes), with a slowly releasing purple dominant resin, that gives a dark purple, near black, imagery. Sweet and sour notes, balanced on more of the sweet side, oudy to its core with a nice natural, soft, leathery note with some woodiness, and woody incense smokiness, and woody incense on a heater (I think? Lol). Notes of some soft, but minor, florals as well, I do remember some powdery florals at the dry down though, but they can be hard to notice as there is some other notes in the way in the dry down, as it is a complex oil. It is funny, because I have had this oil for a long while now and it is not got much left, maybe another few months? Around half of it is left, and I am greeted with new notes (like the greenery, mintiness, camphor etc) that I just didnt smell before, it has opened itself up to me, like something, say, Japanese incense does. Amazing. Lovely oil, and if you purchase it (which you should, if you cant afford 3g get 1g or if you can afford say 1.25-1.5 or 2.25g then ask SULAYM if they could accommodate that and I am 100% sure they would) and you somehow dont like it, or you think it isnt complex enough (you are dead wrong there, it is super complex IMO), then keep giving it a try with an open mind. This stuff is beautiful and when I run out I am gonna get a 2g bottle next time.

Great oil @SULAYM and great customer service!!!

EDIT: But of course, the next oil I get from them is 1.5g of their Koh Kong when it gets released officially, as that oil is something from heaven. Then another bottle of this or maybe the older version, "HM Purple Malay".

Beautiful review thank you

I just got a sample of the viet king along with an order from mesoud. This oil is a treat - I am still in the “getting to know you” stage so this is really a first impression based on a couple of swipes. It has a nice syrupy aspect to the opening - kind of custardy sweet with appealing bitter notes - that I associate with some of the rare higher end oils I have encountered. I don’t know how to describe it but it is a sense of fullness and a mellow mature appealing bittersweet scent.

In fact, it’s very interesting to see these sophisticated opening notes in a Crassna oil. I can clearly smell the Crassna profile, but had to go back and check the product description because it had those other mature bittersweet custardy notes as well. If I wanted to create a roughly similar experience, I would take the finest new gen crassna I could find and add a bit of old tarakan or sweet/mellow type aged sinensis akin to ASO ceen or malek al ceeni (I’m never sure if I’m spelling those right)

I’m still amazed that it’s possible to be smelling oils so quickly after distillation - very educational it really is a kind of golden age for oud as I see it. This is smelling really really nice for a young oil and is interesting, because it brings together notes that I associate with fine older oils in my collection and with more recent distillations as well.

The thing that is interesting is to think about what something like this will become as it ages. I’m not sure that I have smelled any oils that started out with the kind of materials that this one did. It’s possible because there are some good back stories with some of the oils I have sampled over the years.

I don’t think I’m going to use any of this because I want to smell it in a couple of years and the sample is small (and of course simultaneously ridiculously generous because it’s from mesoud).

Keep up the good work. If this was in my usual budget range, I would buy a bottle just to stash away for the glory of seeing it in a few years and beyond.

fabulous picture!

this one is hard to describe. its subtle, and has a hint of cola-like fizz about it. its got a cool spicy profile that has a ocean salt kick to it too that makes this another unique gyrinops. because of how light the smell is, you only notice it in wafts, but when i was working today i would catch whiffs of this oil along with the orange fields in bloom. gorgeous. SPRING IS HERE!

Honestly the best Vietnamese I’ve tried and not even aged.
