I knew I wasn't buggin ! I had just received Borneo Diesel for the first time a couple weeks prior to Royal Maluku , upon first sniff of RM immediately BD came to mind.
I find the two oils to be total opposites🙂. I only get the Borneo DNA in RM after about 1.5-2 hours and is akin more to something like Emperor Maluku from Jinkoh, and to a lesser extent, to Borneo 3000. Closer to the Jinkoh one as it has that Gyrinops quality. Even the dry-down of some Silani oils like Suriranka Senkoh or Ceylon Royale. Some Gyrinops oils have that Bornean DNA in the drydown. Diesel is full on Malinau wood. Is just that compared to the real Cummingiana of Maluku, Taha's feels not entirely there. More like a half-breed.

Green Kyara oil - KyaraShine. I wasn't going to try any of this so late in the day when it arrived but I took a smell of it from the bottle and wow! Super dark and medicinal. Bitter, so so bitter. Not what I was expecting but to be honest I didn't know what to expect really? Anyway I put the cap back on but from then on inwaa getting tiny wiffs of kynam as if I had lit a stick of CK but I hadn't. Realising I had some of the oil on my fingers I brought them up to my nose and there it was! CK on my fingers! This stuff is VERY strong! I think it could potentially become nauseating if applied a little to liberally. Piecing scent of kynam sweet and enveloping. 2.5g bottle of this will last forever. I wonder if it will age?
That sounds like an interesting oil.

I hear ya. Not saying they're at all identical they're far from it but I get something similar for sure , not in the sense of texture but more so the overall smell , they share this certain crystal clear nuance that pierces through with BD in the fumey fruity sense & RM in the metallic floral sense. All subjective at the end of the day I was just curious what you thought.

Shit I just remembered there's like 2 or 3 versions of Borneo Diesel right ? Not sure which one I got nor have a clue how they all differ from one another. Possible we have different versions maybe ?

AA Royal Malaya
EO Sultan Ahmet

Still deciphering both. Ahmet especially. A special oil no doubt. New territory for my nose. Like Purple Kinam, Maluku LTD, is more of an "oud oil as art" than "oud as essential oil". More like the Maluku LTD it feels like oud oil in a "perfumey" way. The Royal Malaya is just like the other Royal oils from Taha, all about high-frequency vibrations. I get glimpses of Purple Kinam and Berkilau with their pshychedelique florals, and Emperor Kedah 1 and Dokusan with their tart purple fruits, blurred by high-frequency vibrations and shifting constantly. Sometimes it's more fruity, others more floral. The purple-hued profile is hidden underneath a fog, not a clear contoured one. Both are excellent oils.

Hui An Ko 2015 from Yusa!

What a treat. Really hits the nail on the head here... sinensis oil par excellence. Deep appealing bitter, light carrot seed aspect, engaging scent beneath the surface, kind of dense and dignified. Love this oil

I did say I would stop posting for a month or 2 but I meant that I wouldn't stress myself out by doing write ups but I will still write what I am wearing or burning, just something short.

Its a good decision. You should not take it too serious/technical. Apply your ouds, enjoy them and if you feel like not writing now because you are enjoying the scent, then you dont have to. You can write it later on after you enjoyed the whole ride or you dont write at all or you just write 2 3 words descriptions.
If you try to study every oil and write pages every time just for the sake of dissecting the oil, you will loose the enjoyment and fun after a while.
I enjoy your long write ups, if I manage to read them and I would enjoy such short descriptions too.
Go with the flow 🏞
I also used to do longer write ups and try to sniff tiny details but then I realised that I am missing the whole picture which is Enjoying the oud, its effects and serenity!
Shorter write up also doesnt mean, you like the oud less than others with a long text. Some ouds leave me speechless 🙊

Thank you brother, much love and thank you for your kind words 💜.

I'm just going through stuff today here in the perfume studio cleaning up the surfaces and organizing things so I'm smelling lots of goodies.

Couldn't resist applying a dab of this interesting 2024 Assam "Sher Shah" from An Najwa. Really appeaing and pleasant minimal funk hindi - bitter opening (in a good sense) that has a sense of something akin to galbanum... nice and resinous, a little bitter herbal. I've only had it on for a few minutes here…

[Ouddict.com] Oud of the Day

Today is a good day. Got some samples from Habz in front of me. First thing I did was pop the dipstick off the Gaharu Uno.

This is one of the rare oils that right off the dipstick is hitting me with everything I want to smell. I haven't put on a swipe yet but it is immediately clear this oil brings some of the favorite things I like about oud right to my nose. Wow this is beautiful stuff concentrating this one note that is especially dear to me - a kind of aquatic "US riparian zone in spring" aroma but in an unusually clean and refined form. Can't wait to wear this oil but I'm saving it for the right moment when my palate is clear

I feel like a fool attempting to write a review without having even swiped the oil, can't think of the last time I did that in fact but this one doesn't leave any doubts as to what it delivers. I'll follow up with a detailed review later
I also received a sample of this today and I have to say it blew my little socks off when opening the bottle. In fact all three of the oils I received today from @Habz786 shot me to the moon. WTF is this stuff!? I've got a swipe of the Gaharu on right now and will be contemplating throughout the day for a more detailed review.

@Habz786 - Xiangshui
Myoudshop
- Meiktila
Jinkoh Store - Grand Emperor Hue

Xiangshui
is violently potent old leather, medicinal herbs, and incense smoke. Very clear oil, not viscous, yet the aroma is thicker than molasses.

Meiktila is a young sinensis oil from Burma, has honeyed custard creamy prune notes from the top to the mid. A woody musky Berry comes out in the middle. Some sandalwood like butteriness and candy florals. Very complex oil for its age.

Swiped on some Grand Emperor Hue last night before bed. It was the first oud oil I had purchased, and the smell of it now compared to how I perceived it when I first got it is so drastically different. I remember being blinded by the large antiseptic acetone fumes of this oil initially. Unable to pick up much more other than that for a few wearings. Now I feel like it plays a role in the scent, but the sweet red liquor and thick honey notes are much more prominent. I even got some lovely bitter dark chocolate like notes before knocking out. Incredible oil for sure, blessed to have one so old in the collection.

AA Khmer Rosso
EO Kinam Rouge

So many similarities here. I'm confused now about which one is Cambodian and which is Vietnamese. Or perhaps both are Vietnamese, or both Cambodian? Rosso feels like taking KR and amplifying the bitterness and the "kinamic" bite, toning down the sweetness and rendering the cherry red fruitiness null. It is still bright red, but not in a fruity way. KR is amazing also. Feels like a lower-grade version of the former. Tangible fruity elements that I perceive as cherries, a touch dirtier when smelled next to Rosso, but not by itself, and more honey-like sweetness.

I'm curious to try the "new" Oriscent Cambodi oil, KoKon. Reading the blurb on the website it sounds in the same vein as Khmer Rosso. That perfect Red Cambodian profile distilled in the "Senkoh" fashion.

"Violently potent" is a new one 🙂

Another dab of Habzoud Gaharu Uno (hirta). The opening to this is really a treat for me - has a beautifully balanced aquatic / poplar woods / forest air opening that is especially beautiful in this oil. Transitions to a nice rich resinous sweet incense aroma - an intensely pleasant oil, complex and saturated.

Edit: I just went and reviewed the backstory for the oil to see how old it was because it is pretty danged dignified - it never crossed my mind that it was recently distilled. that's just nuts

got some kind gifts from a friend today. sultani og from ensar and oud ahmad....the sultani i swiped and i get sweet fizzy cola, amber, light fruity, light leather, light pine, an otherworldly cool/mint which isnt really mint but some cooling note and a flower in the backround that reminds me of honey suckle. its been 5hours so far. the oil is gorgeous. true quality oud oil.
