Ah, yes. Just like a lot of aloeswood from the past, like Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia etc.
In some regions there’s an abundance (relatively) of wild oud and jungles like in Sri Lanka and 🇵🇭, some even discovered very recently. But everywhere else it’s very very rare, especially in famous sources like Cambodia and India.
There are actual organized gangs in some parts of Indonesia and Thailand that take a hold of jungles with the help of the government to make money off of wild oud, and even resort to violence to protect their jungles. There’s a lot of money to be made off of it.

Yusa Aromatics - Fragrant Harbour

After sitting in the warehouse for a week waiting on customs this oil finally arrived today! My first impression is that I'm quite happy with it. It seems to be dominated by florals with a nice sweet and sometimes vanillac background. The oil is thick so it doesn't require a huge swipe. It doesn't seem to project a ton but my sinuses are clogged some. The oil that it most reminds me of is Grand Emperor of Hainan from the Jinkoh store. It has that same floral dominance. Between the two I prefer this one due to the sweet, creamy and vanillac notes.

Aquilaria’s are growing in abundance everywhere but the question is the maturity of the trees & if they contain any oud…
I was under the impression Sri Lanka was pretty much wiped out clean now & only certain jungles in Indonesia have old wild trees…I could be wrong tho.

Havva by @mesOUD
Received Havva today!
A blessed day indeed Alhamdulillah. I don’t even know where to start here! Some of you might say I’m exaggerating but im experiencing the most incredible dry down of any oud oil i’ve ever tried! Having a hard time putting it in words. How can an oil that i’ve never tried bring back nostalgic memories? Why do i remember Eid 20 years back? Is it the ceremonial bowl of fruits and the flower bouquets that decorate the table around it? Maybe it is. Anas was my muse for the last month and i really thought that was gonna be it for a long while, but i guess not. While the opening does have a bit in common with Anas the dry down is completely different. I could write for days about this but i guess i will refrain myself for now and give it a while To explore more of this extraordinary masterpiece.

It's unethical for me to praise an oil that I distilled
But I can say that this oil deserves every praise that can be said about it.
İ shipped it some late, most will receive their oils in 2-3 days and i think,we will hear too much about HAVVA

You show a lot of restraint I think ha ha and the good thing is your enthusiasm is present for the whole process. 🙂

I'm like 25 pages 'behind' this thread and did plan to catch up....but that's hours of time that I don't really have

Yesterday I swiped on SriKong by Yusa which is a blend (I believe, not a codstill) of Sri Lankan & Cambodi. This gives it a new twist, I don't think I've ever tried an SL oil blended/codistilled with anything else. erm, I didn't pay too much attention to give any sorta write-up (shall revisit) but it was an enjoyable experience.

Last night I wore Yunnan Vintage by Imperial Oud which straddles this fine line between overly fermented/cheesy and just sublime. A great oil
I also swiped Tinsukia by IO, a Hindi which always struck me as having a bit of Cambodi blended - deep dark red
However, the past 2 wearings have left me confused and disappointed. I have no idea what's happened but the smell has just gone completely flat and lifeless, smells a little powdery which would be a descriptor that I'd never have applied to the oil. It used to be, like I said a very deep, ruby red and now just nothingness.

Today I've swiped on Havva by Mesoud. Initial impressions are good, but I feel that it needs more time. Similar to Anas, both have a similar vibe right away which I think ageing will remove - in fact, I've had this similar smell to most of Mesoud's freshly distilled oils - this kinda metallic, weirdly pungent vibe that "clouds" the main profile of the oil.
I applied it (Havva) a few hours ago, this note has passed and the Sri Lankan vibe is there and obvious but I think this freshness needs to go to reveal the true beauty,
I can tell that it's gonna be a great oil!

Oud for Jummah in the blessed lands

Wearing Regal Pattani by Jungle Oud on this blessed Jummah at the sacred Masjid al Haram in Mecca feels like a truly spiritual experience. This oud oil, crafted from wild-harvested treasures of the Pattani jungles, is an ideal companion in such a revered place, offering a fragrant harmony that complements the sanctity and peacefulness surrounding me.

Upon first swipe, Regal Pattani opens with an intricate tapestry of dark woods, grounding me in a warmth that feels both ancient and noble. There’s an almost comforting hint of pipe tobacco, which settles over me like a gentle cloak, evoking a sense of calm and introspection perfect for Jummah prayers. This initial depth transitions into something unique—a medicinal, minty bitterness that feels as though it sweeps through the air with an invigorating, cool breeze, reminiscent of the elusive kyara oud. It’s a sensation that feels purifying and uplifting, especially here in this blessed gathering.

As I take in the serene atmosphere of the mosque, each note from Regal Pattani deepens my connection to this spiritual moment. Its fragrance calls to mind the nostalgia of vintage Cambodian and Vietnamese oud, evoking a time when oud was cherished as the ultimate luxury and spiritual enhancement. Every hint of its rich, dreamy aroma feels like a gentle reminder of the beauty of faith and the timeless, profound elegance of tradition.

Regal Pattani is more than a fragrance; it is an olfactory journey that perfectly honors the significance of Jummah at Masjid al Haram. It brings a quiet sense of majesty, a feeling of being grounded and elevated all at once, aligning with the sanctity of this sacred place and the beauty of this blessed day.

I believe this is the "recently distilled" signature, I have smelled it in many freshly distilled artisanal oils. My observations over the last 25 years are:

1. It will transform slowly over time

2. In some oils (thai crassna), it can take 5+ years to transform completely

3. Fermentation seems to eliminate this aspect of oud

4. Have never smelled it in a Hindi / agallocha oil

I would love to hear the thoughts of people who are immersed in extracting or who have been widely sampling fresh oils.

Does it resemble the original Emperor of China? That is the big dragon to chase in the field of HK oils IMO. I have a couple Yusas that will be inbound, and I'm looking forward to this one. Wish there was a sample pack for all, so many nice looking ones on the site.

They have some unique oils and one of my favorite vendors currently for new gen oud oils.

Ps. If you have some emperor of china for sale (sample, partial etc.), I am here 😇

Yup. have noticed with some of his oils that I've bought 6+ months back that they've changed and this note starts to disappear.

Lol. I have a tiny drop left; I just huff the bottle without undoing the stopper. It is my reference.

I have some EOC 2, it is similar but nowhere near that fruit bomb from the original EOC.
