Oud.sg Vietnam Ateeq
This one is interesting, never tried traditional Vietnamese oils. I enjoy it but I just can’t shake this note that’s smells like battery juice! I need to study this more! Overall it is a treat and I’m still learning 🙂
I have an oil called HM Royal Viet from Sulaym and it’s an incredible traditional Vietnamese oil. It’s not released yet but when it comes out I highly recommend it. It’s an SQ oil which are often very impressive.

I’m not familiar with the oil you mentioned but I am sure it’s also great. Maybe I will give it a try.

Merauke Qadeem - Oudique - the classic filaria profile from this region, but ironed out so no rough edges remain! Imagine a classic dark Merauke, with its notes of dark polished leather and smoke but interlaced throughout with a cola note, lending sweetness and charm. Nothing bitter or burned in sight, instead you'll get pitched black resin notes, lightly spiced with just a dash of tart citrus, both of which help elevate the resin notes, making them airier throughout the wearing. The dry down approaches those bubbly resinous facets but with a paradoxical lightness, reminiscent of a recently fumigated room with Merauke chips. The interplay of these traditionally non Merauke type notes makes this such an enjoyable wear, if someone were to ask me, from this first couple of wearings, I'm getting 70% filaria and 30% gyrinops, considering the oils of these species I've tried out

Edit: The deep dry down of this gives rise to the most incredible vanillic baked goods note, first time experiencing this in an oil from here
Can’t wait for my stuffy nose to clear so I can really smell this. I did a mini swipe and got that beautiful leather note and what I can only call a black Merauke note, but green black.

I saw your post when you received your samples, and I desperately wanted to encourage you to try it first! It's a beautiful oil, I'm genuinely shocked at the price it's being offered at. In the dry down, you'll encounter this sweet baked goods like gourmand accord, something I'd never have imagined an oil which starts off like this does, could turn into. Incredible longevity and projection, which means even samples are bound to give their owners many, many enjoyable wearings!

But more importantly, get well soon mate!

Yusa - haflong pursat (nusakan)

I am so bummed that I didn't buy more of this oil when it was available because this is such a beautiful scent that punches above its price tag. I'd be easily convinced if this was labeled as an attar since it has a prominent floral note which I thought at first was jasmine but later seemed more rosy but maybe there's both. I'm not one who particularly likes florals but this is unequivocally one of the best floral ouds I've experienced. The oud base is subtle with the heart notes of rose mixed with strawberry and a hint a saffron that lingers all the way into the dry down.🌹🍓 🪵

Blessed Friday everyone!

Ameenah - Annam Kyara
Vietnamese oil, now I’m not sure if this is wild or organic (maybe both?). Regardless, I rank it very high I might even go ahead and say that it’s one of the best Oud oils that I’ve smelt. It’s light, honey cinnamon yellow fruit rend goodness! It’s so cohesive and integrated that all of the notes make one note if you’re not actively listening (smelling). The other day I had this on for a good 6 hours and then I had to go for a site visit and the body heat from walking had this thing cracked to a 10! Amazing experience and price value.

Thai Atiq by @Al Hashimi

I have recently been drawn to try more traditional distillations so I jumped on a recent opportunity from this vendor. Suffice to say, I am not disappointed!

To my nose, it has a fruity/jammy like opening with a touch of smoke that reveals more traditional methods. However, there is a distinct high quality OUDYness from first sniff and I begin to recognize Al Hashimi's signature that I have encountered in some of their other offerings. You can tell this was distilled from special wood. Like fine aged wine, there is an old feel that has been smoothed by age. Upon application, I actually had an imagery of old dense forests and woods which to my delight, was also in the product description. As it transitions it exabits a bed of soft florals that give it complexity, smoothness and texture that is hard to describe. Eventually, the dry down is breathtakingly beautiful - Ancient forests, woods, florals and incense. The far far dry down is one of sweet ancient wood and oud. I didn't feel it projected strongly with my small applications however, 15h later the scent was still there so this is definitely a heavy hitter. The oil is dark colour with a thick consistency.

This is a beautiful atiq oil and one I am happy and thankful to have had the opportunity to sample.

100% !! Absolutely loved this offering by @Al Hashimi ! And the key is small quantity! Apply in small quantities and it weaves a different magic !

That’s a good reason but I hope that you are at least reading them closely to make sure they are accurate to how you feel about the oils.

Off course !! Look we living in a world where, the technology is at your fingertips. why not use it to work for you? AI is a tool as we use other Applications. And, its output has to be scrutinized before publishing.

Mentarang oud oil from a local vendor
PEANUT! the opening was hilarious as this oil has the most realistic smell of peanut bag. Peanut, woody, minty, roasted nuts, a touch of coffee, Wow!
The drydown of this oil is fascinating, it goes to a direction of petrichor, jungle, earthy in a very satisfying way, White Kinam by EO came to my mind.
Is it in Arabia?
If you want to share me the seller because until now I can't find good oils in Arabia... Unfortunately

Borneo Jadeed of An-Najwa.
A fairly complex new generation type oil which, overall, resembles the smell of whiskey with the alcohol hitting your nostrils.
But as I ponder it I find that what gives it that special note is the blend of cinnamon, vanilla and seaweed notes with a strong dose of black pepper that tickles your nostrils.
It's a beautiful multi-faceted oil, not my favorite for this region, but for the price it's very reasonable and you can feel that the distillation is mastered.
At times one gets the feeling of smelling dark Malaysian wood burning at a low temperature.

But in style the best oil I have smelled remains Borneo sheikh by oriscent.

Ameenah - Crassna Supreme

Incense, Carmel, tarty and woody with hints of sandalwood wafting.

Zero barn or animalic notes, I say this because locally all of the cambodian oils I tried are most likely Hindis mixed with Thai oils (or even worse, synthetics!) and selling them as single source cambodian.

I hope one day they make a regulatory body for the Oud market here in Saudi, so many synthetics oils and wood chips. A man can dream 🙂.

Koh Kong 1444 - Sulaym
This one changed a lot since it was distilled. I got more of a lemon tarty vibe when it was fresh and now it smells like dark cherries and dried fruits with cacao butter and incensy heart. The opening is more green minty/camphorous like described on the Sulaym website. It is not one of these overly fruity or sweet crassnas but still has a herbal honey like sweetness.

Fragrant Harbor - Kymya/The Attar Store
This one is a top notch chinese. Starts with the smell of fresh orange pulp and the bitterness of orange peel. Herbal, honey sweet yet balanced with the bitterness and it screams sinensis. My memory jumps to IO-Hainan Imperiale while that one has more tea and green facets and smells overall a tad darker and deeper due to the soaking probably.

I have to swipe this and Yusas Fragrant Harbor and IO Fragrant Harbor Imperiale and see how far they differ. Hard to say only from my memories now

Khlong Yai - Annajwa
I just realised, I never talked about this oil. This is a superb Thai. It has a vivid smell of bluberries like I never smelt before, with a creamy touch, tea, herbs & surrounded by this incensy oudy aroma of a traditional oil. Very smooth and rounded oil without any barny facets.
Its obvious it sold out!

Marjaan by ASO
Omani franckincense opening with a yellow semi citrusy theme, very unique oil. in this stage you think it's more of an attar rather than essential oil. As the time passes, this oil becomes resinous and woody, with dark subtle smokiness, similar but less powerful to Ghaith smokiness.
The drydown is super green, and it is all about vetiver. Very nice and unique Malay oil.

This really is a very nice Thai. An-Najwa was kind enough to find me some remaining oil for a sample as it had sold out long before I had the chance to get any. Very obviously a Thai oud but certainly a standout version of.

EO Oud SQ
Sunday, lots of planning to do at work.
Purple Floral & Incense. I like this one a lot, I almost want to taste it haha! Though I have to say it’s an intimate experience not a lot of silage.

I work in Al Balad historical district here in Jeddah and there are some renowned Oud vendors that’s been in business for decades. You find some good chips but oils are more difficult. One of my go to places is ran by 2 Indian guys both of them are very stoic. Our discussion are always centered around oils and he always tell me “Kareem, any oils above 1,000 riyals is theft” (for a quarter tola)
I swipe him with Oud SQ. He immediately said, “this smells like flowers” and for the rest of my stay he kept his hand to his nose. Told him I’ll bring you some more oils later to try. Trying to convince him there’s some exceptions and I think I’m making progress haha!
