ASAQ - Yacht Agarwood oud Oil

I was gifted this. It’s supposedly a limited release high grade oil. The box says Aquilaria Beccariana.

For once - it actually smells like real unadulterated oud. It’s slightly thick velvety. It’s sweet with an old school Malaysian woody base with a hint of oceanic vibes. None of those fake piercing vibes. My guess is Malaysian but I have no idea.

Has anyone tried this? Any info on aquilaria beccariana?

Started off the day with some Maluku Seram Cumingiana origin oil from Taiwan 安汶. Opens up juicy, like taking some purple florals and putting them in a mixer with blueberries and grapes and a chunk of orris butter and blending it all up. Transitions to a floral and then powdery and thick creamy Orris profile with some vanilla and wood in the base.

Finishing off with Jinkoh Store Grand Emperor Tarakan. Another Indonesian oil that showcases a strong blueberry note. A very complex oil that goes from watery green in the opening to blueberries, nuts, and florals, and finally to hard-textured brown wood, vanilla, and berries. Top 3 Jinkoh for me.

Really love wearing oud oils for these lazy Sunday days. Nothing hits quite like it. I wish I had more of the mind-state to indulge in them during the week but I feel I'm going too fast and by the time I get some time to chill in the evening I feel like I'm wasting a swipe of something so complex that requires at least couple of hours to properly savor.

Hey 👋 I'm sampling Hindi Maliko from Asjad's the Oud Room, a distinctive oil with dark malty notes.

Burma orenji - Yusa

I got this as a sample with an order a little while back, but I don't think it's been released yet

I believe this is my first Burmese oud and it's left a good first impression. I got green and fruity notes at the top, specifically green apple and a slight menthol note. The green apple note is still there in the heart, alongside green and floral notes. I haven't worn long enough to get an idea of the base notes, but so far this has been quite a bright and fresh smelling oud

Despite it being a bright and fresh oud, it's doing a good job of calming me while I'm in bed

Al-Hind Oud Shah Alam

Rich, brown woods and tanned leather with a piercing oceanic top note that will literally whip your nostrils on first sniff. There’s a stinging quality here that reminds me of some Silani’s I’ve tried especially those from Mr. Ali.

Shah Alam feels like an old world meets new gen style oil. It’s raw, rugged, and even animalic at first but slowly unfolds into a crystal clear vision of Malaysian jungles.

I enjoy the transitions with Shah Alam and there seems to be 3 distinct stages. I usually gravitate towards the more cola forward Malaysians and the only other Selenqor region oil I have to compare this to would be Jinkoh’s Selenqor which is so totally different than this co-distillation that it makes me want to explore more of the region to figure out what it’s hallmarks are.

I get a green vein that runs through Shah Alam but there’s also a rugged dark black woodsy quality here as well. At times the fermentation feels like freshly tanned leather with a subtle hint of barn. This doesn’t last long and after awhile this falls into pure incense territory. It’s truly a remarkable oil and feels very much like a no frills, no fancy tricks, what you see is what you get kind of oil. This distillation doesn’t seem like it was trying to coax out any specific notes or make the finished product smell like something that isn’t in the wood itself. Shah Alam feels like the tree it was distilled from. It feels like forests it was found in.

Any almond note? when I first tried it, especially at the opening I thought about clean Vietnamese oils, but after that it was clearly a Malay one.

No almonds at all. It’s very much a Malaysian through and through although it almost smells like an old school Silani at first with a super piercing, super intense oceanic volatile top note. It takes awhile before it cleans up and moves away from the slight opening soaking notes.

I think I still have a sample somewhere, I'll be testing it tomorrow and see if the oil changes since last time.

He made a mistake while typing his comment. The actual name of that shop is “oud lab”.

他在输入评论时打错了名字。那家店的正确名字是“oud lab”。

Oud.sg: Malay - Kelantan 1999

A Malay oil from Kelantan. From my understanding of the description is that it is a traditional style. (copper and wood fire)

The oil is dark red, the scent profile is green. Cool and slightly minty or camphory, there’s like this musky ending that I find in plenty of old oud oils when inhaling it. Overall it’s pretty nice. Nothing burnt or offensive, swiped a couple of people that don’t like Oud but they didn’t mind this one.
