Yo. I haven't worn any oud for about 4 weeks!

nice to experience these again. The Sultan is outstanding!!
Yes, I agree with you, there’s a mentally healing quality when applying oil or heating Agarwood. It’s not a placebo effect, the results are clear.Wearing Oud Lab’s Lao Shan
After trying a few sultan oils along with a handful of vintage 30+ year old distillations I’ve come to the conclusion that Lao Shan is indeed one of the highest quality Thai’s I’ve put my nose on.
There’s still a somewhat piercing quality that I believe may smooth out in the coming decades but overall this is truly spectacular.
Agar Aura’s Tokusen Thai is like Lao Shan except it’s the brighter, younger but just as high of quality distillation that showcases what I feel is a more Kodo style representation of Thai Agarwood. Where I feel Lao Shan truly shines is it’s ability to feel like a Sultan Qaboos oil without actually being one. When I first smelled Lao Shan I knew that it was a solid oil but it’s taken years of observation to realize just how special this really is.
There’s been a lot of sickness in my family and life lately. Oud oil has been my nightly medicine before bed that gives me some respite from the difficulties of the day. There’s nothing more satisfying than sitting down after putting everyone to bed and swiping some high quality Oud oils from the amazing vendors in this community.
Yeah man I really enjoyed Lao Xiang but Lao Shan was my favorite of the two. I felt they had a lot of similarities but something about LS’s chocolate liqueur/boozy/ripeness just spoke to me. I feel like I need to buy both of them. I’ve been saving this little v-vial I’ve had for like 3 years now and it’s running low.Yes, I agree with you, there’s a mentally healing quality when applying oil or heating Agarwood. In regard to soothing depression or clearing stress, Rose oils have an even greater psychoactive effect for me. Often when I’m overwhelmed or in a negative state of mind, I’ll whip out a Rose oil & deeply inhale directly from the bottle. Very potent medicine!
Have you sampled Lao Xiang? It’s my favourite Thai oil I ever put my nose on! A perfect example of the traditional & modern. Gorgeous luminous floral-fruity top notes, replete with dense resinous syrupy Crassna base notes, slightly musky, rounded, a touch smoky & incensey with a mature ripe sweetness.
AT did very well sourcing Lao Shan & Lao Xiang. He has excellent connections in that Southern Thailand / Northern Malaysia region, consistently plucking the finest examples the region has to offer!
Have a sample of this on the way. Very much looking forward to it especially after reading this.Alhind Dhahab - Habz
A top tier Hindi, right up there with ASO’s Hindi’s which I consider to be the benchmark of all things Indian.
A glorious fermentation top note, sweet, musky, animalic, warm & glowing. After 30mins approximately, the intensity of the barn decreases revealing plum & sticky dates, a hint of white floral, cacao, earth-clay, warm spices.
Like all Hindi oils, the dry down is my favourite part exhibiting sun baked hay, coumarin-amber, cigar, dry woods, worn animalic leather with a resinous incensey Oudy muskiness.
A perfect example of traditionally distilled Indian Dahn Al Oudh. A small swipe on my beard is all I’ve applied this evening & aroma continues to project beautifully.
I’ve been so impressed with Habz’s recent selection of oils, all of them are wonderful.
Laos - Fushigi
Easily the best Lao oil Ive tried. Bitter citrus, aged shou puerh, floral honey, etc.
I forgot I had this and it definitely ranks up there with Hainan and Brunei from Fushigi.
If you smelled hainan, it’s the same quality as that, just laos profile.
Habz Oils are fantastic. His oils may not be to everyone's tastes but the quality is undeniable. Give his recent offerings a year or two and people will appreciate them even more (in my humble opinion).Habzoud - Gaharu Uno. I've had my nose on a good number of oils from Habzoud now and most of those with a couple of exceptions carry that signature oceanic note which I have mentioned a few times before and others have also noticed. To be honest I don't really know what it is or how it's produced as it comes across in a bunch of oils from different regions and types of trees so, I have to conclude it comes from the distillation process. I have not come across this salty note in ouds from anyone else. It's very distinct and quite beautiful. Gaharu Uno carries it well, as does Al Taaj & Raja Hijau. Whenever I smell these oils I often consider the possibility of adding some ambergris to one of these for the ultimate ocean oud. Has anyone else had this idea? I find @Habz786 oils are pretty much complete perfumes in themselves. When I got to know the high end agarwood seller in Hanoi I had the opportunity to share a couple of swipes with his father who had just come back from Beijing and sells exclusively to partners in China. The ones I picked for him was Oud Boran & Raja Hijau. To say he was impressed was an understatement. Was a very nice feeling to get raised eyebrows from this man.
Agree liking an oil is a personal preference but appreciating and understanding quality is completely different! Which oil was that out of curiosity?Habz Oils are fantastic. I was actually looking at selling one of his older oils that I got when I started my journey, a few years back. I liked it but I did not quite "get it". When I revisited it recently I changed my mind instantly because it blew me away at how good it is.

When Al Hareer first came out, I loved it and wore it a ton, but I couldn't help shake off the feeling that the oil was missing a bit of "fullness". I don't know what I could be referring to, but it's easy to detect when the top notes leave and you're left with something which feels slightly empty, like more could have been there. However I went back to it today, and again I wore this oil a fair bit back in the day, and it was completely different! Somehow my earlier complaints had been rectified, and the 5% I didn't fully adore had successfully been filled in with beautiful Hindi resins 🤤Agree liking an oil is a personal preference but appreciating and understanding quality is completely different! It's a daily sniffer for me! I'm not sure I have enough experience to say this, but with Oud Safeer and Sher Shah, I think An Najwa has raised the benchmarks for his Hindi Oud offerings! It feels like a new creative direction, these are relatively young oils and already showcase an exceptional depth and nonlinearity in profile!@An Najwa 's Safeer - seems like a quality Hindi to me - has that barn but it is in balance - smells resinous and rich. Love it.
Quite possibly my favourite oil from 2024!Marouke qadeem - Habz
Signature oceanic/water top note, wet soil, hay and a slight barn note in the background. Beautiful and relaxing, perfect oil for sleep imo. Loving this oil rn
Update: that barn/roasted nuts note is gone, leaving behind pure earthy goodness
I need to go back to this one. I really wanted to like it but there was something in it that wasn't quite agreeing with me. I very briefly gave it a smell from the bottle once more a couple of weeks ago and possibly, whatever that note is for me has settled down as I didn't find it present but I'm yet to have another swipe of it so we'll see.Quite possibly my favourite oil from 2024!
