The oud lab - hainan 2018

It seems difficult finding hainanese oils in the market lately so I've decided to finally try this one and I was thoroughly satisfied. Fresh grassy, bitter, medicinal with matcha tea. There's a characteristic powderiness which fades in the dry down into a smooth iris and oud. This is full bottle worthy for daily swiping!

EO Oud Isa

I've been craving this oil for 2 weeks and today it's its day. Oh man, this oil embodies everything I love about Indian oils. It feels like the lovechild of Oud Nuh and Assam 3000, sharing the best bits of both. Has those mouthwatering facets from 3000 with honey and berries and the dark-red malice from Nuh. One of my favorite Hindi oils. And one of the oils I crave the most. Very high craving factor with this one. Impulsive almost. Few oud oils do that to my brain and Isa is one of them.

I also decided to go from now enjoying one oil at a time. I've debunked and analyzed them all, now it's time to chat with each in private at a comfortable pace.

I was kind of thinking of it as a 'hindi for people who don't like hindi'. But I can see how it's a good ice breaker into the category. Really complex, but nothing that would be challenging or offensive to any nose.
Yeah but I think that’s a clean Hindi thing.

I remember it being very good though. It was either the first or one of the first clean Hindis that I ever tried and I thought that was how they would all be. It turned out to be difficult to find another one that I like as much. I found some that I think are better but they’re not the same type of profile as Al Janah.

To this day I am really picky about any fermentation notes in Indian oud. It’s not that I don’t like Indian oud. I just don’t really like the fermentation notes unless they are exactly done the way I like.

Grand Emperor Kedah by JS
They don't do them like this anymore. This is a historical piece, it is an old and smooth oil, Smells linear but in a very good way. Red color vibes, antique and vintage. I really don't know how to describe this one.
Another example of old Malay oil with ambery, Attar like feel is Kodai Ka by TOL, but they are completely different scent wise. I treasure both of them.

Kelantan by EO tonight

Usually I don’t find myself going for Malaysian profile but have been swiping some lately. The orrisy aspect seems to be a common thing here, some have this more than others obviously. I have started liking Malay oils.
I'm wearing them almost exclusively these days Lol
Oud Ahmad, Oud Sultani 2001, Tigerwood 1990, Emperor of Kedah, Grand Emperor Kedah, Thuraya, Marjaan, Kodai Ka, Old Gold Malay (Local) ...
In my opinion, the best wood is from Vietnam, and the best oils are from Malaysia.

Imperial Oud Pontiniak

Swipe and boom! Strong vapors initially.
Dusty oudy woody coffee incense, almost smokey. Reminds me of Maroke Muah, Sultan Mujeeb, and the resin density of TW95. Dark oil that masks the underlying sweets and fruits.
I was out and about today, and in fresh air the swipe was smelling yummy bitter, which I associate with oils distilled from incense grade oudy types of agarwood, and Pontiniak was the most bitter of all the others. I was enjoying bitter sniffs for hours.
At over an hour, the opening thins out a bit to reveal a little bit of the sweets and dried fruit and chip on the heater notes, but does not uncloak them completely.

It’s a bitter champion😁

Sounds great

Fiet Atiq - Al Hashimi

I cannot get enough of this. The bitter sweetness is so balanced. I am noting a cooling feeling with mentholic aspects this time and dare I say, some Kinam like facets and effects.
If I had to pick only one out of the Atiq series from @Al Hashimi, it would be this one. All the ones I have tried are beautiful but this one speaks to me on so many levels and screams quality. I may have to put this one away for special or contemplative occasions.

Oudique-Malay OG

hadn’t been excited about this until actually giving it a proper swipe. On the dipstick this gives me the forest floor, basement mildew scent that I usually associate with Merauke. Maybe a little tight and closed off like Meraukes can be on my skin type. Once it’s on my skin though I wonder how I could ever have thought that. I get something extroverted and warm that I imagine you’d get if bees could make a green tinted honey from straw, bamboo and cherry syrup soaked leather with pink peppercorn pollen to boot. There’s a passing cola note, but specifically China Cola that you used to be able to get at health food stores. And then a weird little jog through Chinese five spice into something that smells exactly like cardamom and nutmeg crossed with honey and leather. (I had to literally go into the kitchen and hold those four things up to my nose so I could smell them simultaneously, leather and all!). I get a general greenness without this having anything to do with plants at all. A warm green filtered through brown glass and honey notes through every stage. Floral honey, peppery honey, piney honey but somehow also slightly sweet leather and woody musk. These all get mellowed out and blended further into the dry down.
