Oudique... Lao Mitsu
Stunning.
I won't state that each Oudh oil I try is better than the previous, I believe my patience to allow the oil to develop is growing with the learning curve thus each experience is deeper than the previous one.
Lao Mitsu is truly a stunning oil even though the initial whiff frightened me a bit.
The aroma started out a bit funky to me, not exactly what I would label as cheesy but funky like a clothes hamper or overcrowded clothing closet that has not been opened for a good amount of time. The funkiness passed quickly and sudden notes of very ripe dark fruits, not a tangy off odor, nor fizzy but more like syrupy, blackberry syrup, elderberry brandy fumes, warm Sambucca, rich Blackberry Brandy and Cognac aroma leading into a very ripe grape must with skins scent similar to a basaltic reduction to produce glaze, a slight acidic tang develops that prevents the ripe fruit aroma from becoming cloying. Perfect! Only Mother Nature could arrange such a balanced concoction.
I could swear one of the grandkids has strawberry pop tarts in the toaster as the deep over ripe dark berries scent softens and morphs into a rich, complex late harvest dessert wine. A subtle, light vanilla aroma penetrates the dark, jammy berry scent, this is not a strong vanilla extract aroma or baking odor but rather similar to aged vanilla bean pod scent when first opening the storage tin.
Several minutes, more or less pass and a clean, bright spring green scent of a dew damp hay field before sunrise takes over, for reference the type of dew laden tall grass or hay field used for training a young, inexperienced Canine for tracking articles dropped by handler. The scent of biological repair of broken blades of grass after laying a track might be familiar, this is not akin to the neighbor mowing his grass Saturday morning, but detectable once experienced.
As I continue to inhale the scent I can taste a camphor like, blue eucalyptus substance in mouth upon exhalation. The taste fades and rises with each exhalation, pleasing, not overpowering, slightly bitter young spring twig taste and aroma now enter the landscape.
The wood aroma is now rising, not piercing but insinuating its way through the grass greens and dark fruits. The woody aroma pokes through with a licorice or Senna- like vibe, almost medicinal. The wood scent evolves quickly into an incense of a light wood, not a faded or muted incense, but not the incense of a resinous dark wood. The scent is more similar to River Birch or White Birch campfire dieing down, dry, present but no dank, heavy resin scents. The incense aroma is strong, but of a lighter aromatic wood such as birch and faint evergreen background.
The pleasant light wood incense aroma oscillates with a faded elderberry brandy complexion. The wood incense aroma vacillates between bright and medicinal. Upon exhaling a minty, numbing sensation takes residence in my mouth, very unique for me.
At 6 hours I am still receiving sensations of taste upon exhalation.
I spent quite some time focussed on this experience of this Oudh oil, remained keenly aware of feelings, sensations, odors, images with this oil due to a specific request for a review. To reiterate, the more Oudh oils I have the opportunity to experience, and my patience develops, the deeper the experience. I appreciate the dedication and assistance of all members in this community driving me to learn more about the aesthetics of the oils and allow the science and theory running loose in my brain rest for a spell. My sincere appreciation, and may God Bless all of you!
Thank You Oudique for such a unique experience.
