Arakan SIlk from elkhaldi studio
At first I get the most faint lovely initial note of freshly cut hay - very evocative of being on a farm, no dirty barn / fecal notes at all. Normally I get that minty / camphor note immediately upon application of an oud that has this characteristic - in this case, it came up in the mix about 20 minutes in. Really lovely, Maher! I keep returning to my hand repeatedly, this is complex and has great projection.
Oil is a Beautiful medium viscosity golden hue with a tinge of a red spectrum. I love this oil!

MesOud HAVVA

I received the most luminous feeling from HAVVA, similar to cloudy, full moon night in New England near catnip and maybe spearmint, light white camphor aroma and taste, soulful glow, light incense and wood in background. Caution: I am an amateur when it comes to describing aesthetics of Oudh oils, but this one allows me to retreat and feel balanced. Pure well being in a little bottle!
I’m an amateur also lol but what I’ve learned is that every experience is different, I’m gonna keep this in mind next time I swipe it.

Wow where to start?? Complex!!! Floral…
Potent. Almost getting some port wine smells (the top of the vapor column… the highest fraction). I don’t drink but I used to occasionally.
Incense … some lacquer … old books but not mildew-y… like an old book that was put away in a dry vault for 1000 years and this is the first time it was opened.
Dang this oil is evocative !!! it’s triggering that “nostalgia for something I didn’t actually experience but feel like I might have if I think long enough “ vibe

There’s gotta be a French word for that…

Faizal Privé: Shah Jahan Supreme 2025

I love this.
When I first tried this, immediately my brain said "chugoku senkoh".....then i went to find my v-vial, and nope....or wow...that sure has changed in the past 8 years. I haven't opened that vial in years, I think.
Then I tried Chugoku Jinko? Nope. China Sayang? Nope.
My mind is grasping for a reference. Something like a China/India border distillation for me.

The opening character of this Manipur, according to me, has the lightness of a fine hindi, with whispers of a sinensis character. Piercing golden beauty, with sweetness described by Faizal. I'm getting tart/bitter red berries that you often find in high end hindis. Faizal has described it as a bitter neroli. I'll go with that.

I can't remember the smell of Imperial Oud's Shah Jahan at the moment, but I remember absolutely loving that.
Gonna go have to visit that bottle this week.

I'm a fool for recommending this before I buy more.

Xiangshui - Habzoud

Very grateful to Habz for letting me sample this one! Greatly appreciated.

As others have mentioned, the oil here is a strikingly pale, light-straw colour with a fluid consistency - almost as runny as a neroli EO, for example. Sniffing the dipstick I get refined hydrocarbons, stainless steel and some ozone pungency. On skin, it opens up somewhat, showing notes of leatherette and vinyl upholstery. It really does smell like the old car interiors I remember from my childhood.

After some time, it begins to feel airy and expansive. A sense of chip-on-subitism gentle smoulder also begins to come through, but it does so in a way that is devoid of sweetness; it’s bone-dry, austere, challenging.

This is a pass for me, but I’m probably just too much of a noob to appreciate it properly 😅

I am dabbing some self-made kinam resin extract here. This is beautiful in its own weird way but strictly a skin scent. there are some really beautiful elements, I wish I could amplify their intensity. Kinam has a voice- how can this stuff be made to "sing" in oil form?

The "kinamic" aspect of kinam doesn't really show unless the resin is heated - the aroma is like cool kinam chips, more of a general soft sweet woody / agarwood type aroma than a clear kinam-on-the-burner scent (I have never smelled that in any kinam oil).

i'm also wearing a swipe of distilled oil presumably from the same wood that this resin extract is made from. That oil has much more melon rind, floral, plastic type top notes and smells like a different beast entirely. This distilled oil dries down to smell more like heated kinam eventually - pretty satisfying in that regard. Would love to have an oil that smelled right from the get go. I'm thinking of building an oud blend with this and some ck distillates - the fixative properties of the resinoid and the amplified characteristics of the distilled oil seem to work together well.

Memories are tied to odor.

Looks like you finished with quite a few mls there! How much material did you have to use to get that?

Malinau Maliki- habzoud
Any one tried santal_and_oud on Instagram?

Went through most of his offerings. Will be ordering more, trying to squeeze in something before this damn tariff deadline. Nice guy.

I'd agree with macs impressions up there. His merauke is fairly close to oudiques if you've ever smelled that one before. Some others are pretty unique. Depends on your tastes 🤷🏻 @Olfactory Nomad I've been meaning to tag you, his padang one may be up your olfactory alleys since it sways a bit towards the Cambodi profile. I remember you were digging those a few weeks back.

Edit: come to think of it, if you ever end up getting his malinau please report back since you have Habz' as well. Would love a comparison.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll have a look.
