Nasir by habzoud. A Malay/fili codistillation (or blend I can't remember). Let me say that this is hands down one of the best oils I've smelled. It hits all the things I want to smell in an oil and fires on all cylinders. So many of these modern "heady" oils have fabulous top notes and opening. But remind me of crack cocaine - phenomenal for a few minutes but gone before you know what happened. Leaving you wanting more and more.
The flip side is that with more traditional oils, they last longer sure but usually you pay the price of overly smokey, or fermented notes, or funk. These kinds of oils are more focused on the middle and base notes.
So back to nasir. This came as a suggestion from fellow ouddict and new resident vendor
@EJayB with Olefaktory. His collection is probably one of the biggest I've seen - spans and gamut from almost every vendor I've heard of. So I trust his recommendations. Luckily I was able to snag a gram of this for a great price through the ouddict marketplace here.
This is one of those oils that every morning when I go to take my swipe, I look at but pass on because it's now reserved for a special occasion - like a day when I close a lot of business or have a full day to myself to lounge and enjoy.
It's overtly masculine. No argument there. Heavily roasted tobacco, anise, bitterness, benzoin, hops, Raw cocoa.
Off the top - smelling the cap. I promise you will smell an uncanny resemblance to almond extract combined with cherry cola extract - if anyone has ever smelled "boost" before - this is a common icee drink sold in the Northeast in the USA. They sell the syrup so you can make it at home - it has a smell like this as well. Off the cap it has this almost ringing clear quality which is odd contrasted with it's obvious dark tone that in other oils might seem muddy but here just smells clean and clear. If I had to pick a color I'd say like a burgundy brown/charcoal. Nutty, anise, incense, not cinnamon, but more spicy spices, if you've ever smelled Amaretto - THIS is the top note off the cap. On the skin, you instantly get an almost vaporous diselish kinda malted whisky almost vibe that fades into the middle notes which then enter into anise, smoke and dark mascherino cherries poking through.
The base turns into a gorgeous resinous, smokey swirling incense and kind of this darker sandalwood vibe that you can find in some of JKs unique sandalwood offerings that he's done up in copper. Although I'd venture to guess this oil was done in steel but I could be wrong.
Long post (I know it's a bad habit!) but as I sit at home trying to stay calm, I've also made a commitment to create a mental gratitude list in my head every day . I think it's one way to keep positive. All of our vendors here are fabulous and I don't think I'm speaking out of turn by saying we are all grateful for you guys/gals and your teams and families. For today I want to express my specific gratitude for Habz, who keeps putting out banger after banger - I've never had an oil of his I didn't like! Support your local oil dealers y'all! Oh. And get your hands on Nasir, if you can find any!
